Aaron Long Huynh not really, the r32 got outright banned because it was dominant yes, but the technology and parts used are pretty much as what was in the production cars. What bmw did was abuse a loophole formerly used by the late 90s gt1 and created a race car first, road car second car by having an engine thats not in their production vehicles. As much as i like this car, you cant deny thats outright unfair on cars designed as road cars and converted to race cars which the rules were designed for

They actually stopped racing the gtr because they couldnt meet the homoligation requirements given how expensive it was to build a roadgoing gtr with a v8 at the time, hence it never really came back.

Am I the only one who, when I drive this car in NFS Carbon (no joke, it's in there too), doesn't call this "M3 GTR Most Wanted" but more accurately "M3 GTR ALMS"? The car is the same, except it has an iconic paintjob. Seriously, kids who played MW 2005 and Carbon never knew it was an ALMS race car.
I call it BMW M3 GTR 2001 because it wasn't only used in the ALMS it was retired in 2003 when they made an updated BMW M3 with an engine tuned to push out a few dozen more HP

You can actually take a bmw E46 M3 chassis place the 4.0 s65b40 engine from the bmw e92 m3.. and you can make something like the gtr..but it will cost too much for sure

What’s interesting is that Porsche wanted BMW to be disqualified for changing the engines from the S54 ( straight 6 ) to the new 4.0 liter v8. If you know GT racing, each team gets a stock factory car and has to change it to meet racing standards. They’re not allowed to change any internals, meaning engine. But they did and got away with it. And BMW ended up smacking Porsche.
now i know why nfs devs have such exclusivity to the m3 gtr. they want to make people clash between m3 gtr and porsches back then. so they get more money by exclusively having both cars in-game so everyone can compare it
@TC Hiper - Be honest. You've never even watched a Formula 1 race, have you? And no, that "Red car" was a Le Mans Prototype(LMP) car, and it was actually coming up to lap the M3 GTR. LMP cars are much faster than GT cars. And F1 cars are faster than LMP cars.

The Heat sound was supposed to be from M3 E92 GT2 engine sound and the E92 engine was had crossplane crankshaft instead flatplane like this, which is why that's totally unmatch...
