To improve your relationship instead of “no thanks” you could ask why she feels that way. Perhaps she wants you to change so she doesn’t look overdressed. She may want to spend more time with you. She may want to join you in your hobbies. Learn to have constructive conversations instead of “no thanks I won’t do what you say” “leave me alone” attitude. Because if you ignore her she will leave you alone and find someone who will grow with her. This goes both ways.

That's how my husband now gets since my personality "quirks" (that he'd said were part of what made him fall in love with me) became things about me that need to change because 23 years later, now that I'm no longer a spring chicken, those quirks have seemingly become the inconvenient and broken parts of me that I now need to change to be "fixed". 😮💨
