Criminally underrated. The Blue Nile never talked much, but they said all the most important things!
I know them and Paul is a beautiful man as they all are. They did not get the richly deserved recognition they deserved
I have loved this band since 1984. Hearing this song again reminds me of where I was and what I was doing all those years ago. I was obsessed with them for years. They quell your soul.
Still listening to this in 2022 at the age of 52, The Blue Nile never got recognition they deserved.
58. 2024
THE album that reminds me of my youth; girls I loved, dreams I had, plans I was DEFINITELY going to do, flecky trousers and suit jackets, thin ties with piano tiles on them and terrible slip on shoes.
Fashion Gods; at Least The Blue Nile stay TIMELESS !
Just like the rest of us John some fashion blunders are made , ohh I never made any myself but I remember yours 🤔 just kidding 🌍✌🏼
I feel blessed to have been young back then.
No kidding, this album literally saved my life during the worst time I've ever experienced. I got lucky and saw them live before the second album came out. Paul was apologising for having run out of songs. The audience made it clear that they could listen to it again ten times over. Timeless and beautiful.
It is definitely a great album to listen to in hard times.
Come back and tell us more
This is the album of my lost youth. I cry every time I hear it, his voice and the lyrics!!
Metoo
SAME
Me too!
Me as well.
I love and adore probably hundreds of bands but something about this band is different. Magic is afoot here! I can't describe it!
hellraiser917 : Agreed, they have a timeless quality, love that you have used The Sound album cover there too! 😁👍🏻
Well said! ✌️💜🆘
They are stirring it up on us , Hellraiser 😊
Still as staggeringly beautiful now as it was when I first heard it, more than 30 years ago
Agree Richard, the heartfelless is timeless.... If that's, a, word lol x
Couldnt agree more!
Is right
Elaine Carroll : It’s not a word Elaine, but it doesn’t matter, because you’ve captured the essence of a fabulous song with your own creation! 😊 I can’t really explain why, but when I hear this I am transported to Tuscany, views across a valley, a blue, warm haze in the distance, the sun mirrored on a river winding it’s way to who knows where
@@howardjones7370 that's beautifully put Howard, it really is a song that can transport you to wherever you want to be.. 💜
A beautiful album, ahead of its time, sparse and haunting, Paul's voice is fantastic still got my original vinyl, mind you i don't think they ever did a song i don't like , just a pity they released so few songs, they binned lots and lots they thought were not up to scratch, probably a 100 times better than most, but hey, that's The Blue Nile, never ordinary , just brilliant
Blessed we are, for The Gems Released ! X......
The atmosphere is so fully realized that one's consciousness is penetrated for six and a half minutes. There's a vast world within in this song.
Beautiful! His voice is so full of melancholy and so expressive
Saw them in Dublin in the GAIETY THEATRE with my brother not expecting anybody to be there. It was a sellout and so many people could'nt get in.They were brilliant.
Liverpool too.
If I was forced to choose 6 albums that I've heard that were to be preserved when all others had to be destroyed, I would not hesitate to put this among them. Its fascination seems boundless.
No band like this on God's green earth! The best!
Soulful minimalism. No words can even get close to express the beauty and genius of this song and album.
Soulful minimalism covers it well, and so melodic, often sparingly.
You live beneath another star
You are pretending love is worth waiting for
You always breathe another air
The rivers in the distance must be leading somewhere
Heatwave, Heatwave
Why is it rolling down on the young and foolish?
Heatwave, Heatwave
Are we rich or poor ?
Does it matter anymore?
Heatwave
Can this be all we will desire ?
Straw houses in the promised land
Why is it time for taking sides ?
When all I say and do is take too many chances
Heatwave, Heatwave
Why is it rolling down on the young and foolish ?
Heatwave, Heatwave
Are we rich or poor ?
Does it matter anymore?
Heatwave
Will I tell you ?
Will you listen ?
If I tell you, what will happen ?
Heatwave, Heatwave
Why is it rolling down on the young and foolish ?
Heatwave, Heatwave
Are we rich or are we poor ?
Does it matter anymore?
In a heatwave

What's TIME ? But These Memories..XXXX.
Wow, this is still a work of art to this day ,👌🏴
What a magnificent band
SO beautiful it makes your heart ache
Stunning. Always brings the tears.
They paint an intricate musical landscape of what they are observing
brilliant...my sister bought the album back in the day and I listened every chance I got...haven't heard this since and yet I know every word and chord...
Me too, heard Tinsel Town on the radio so bought the album, and this and Easter Parade were also instantly classic songs to me. Still so good after all these years. Has stood the test of time.
Best band ever to come out of Scotland in my opinion...underrated...!!....just great original meaningful music with Paul superb vocals….helps their not only Scottish, but Glaswegian to..... proud of them..!!..
Alexander Reilly ....from the people's republic of West Bromwich ....100 % spot on, they kind of capture Glasgow.., streets, walking, rain, love....painting pictures....always makes me want to revisit Scotland and I will surely do....amazing ...I've seen them twice....very fckn lucky :)
@@BlackCountry-q1h nice 1..!!..your always welcome up here mate...
Paul is from Edinburgh....

So underrated its criminal, what a voice , I love belle and sebastian and ahem ,the fire engines
CLASSIC ALBUM!!!!!!
Appreciate them more than ever, Paul's voice in supreme form.
this is so fucking amazing. wow. i might cry
Forget how good as I heard it back in 84 beautiful understated song.
Such a wonderfully produced played and created sound - they were an absolutely incredible band
I wish that they had had, far more success; they so deserved it.
AND I SHOULD HAVE BOUGHT THE BLOOMIN ALBUM FOR ONE!
Their best song... or maybe.. em ...soul boy.. rooftops...downtown....baybebaybe.... tinsel ....hillsideparade.. desire as ... arvo part ...
Amazing.
another example of how great this album is .. the intro says it all ..
1984 long hair into hard rock this band would have never been in my peripherals but surly through forty years of mellowing and maturing I should have heard of them by now? Unfortunate for me, no, it’s the first time today! Thank you TAS
Brilliant
The Hi-Fi legends Linn, actually formed this label just to release this album.
After all these years , since I first listened to this 💛heatwave💛 I feel moved to another time and space... deep inside
Had the privilege of sering them twice live....so damn good....
I wish. Passed them by in the 80s
E un brano di tanti fa.Meraviglioso.Ci fantasticavo ascoltandolo da ragazzo.😔
Classic
awe right Charlie
Yes
This beautiful mournful song from my youth might be an appropriate theme song for COP26 in Glasgow. The world is young and we are foolish. Rich or poor won’t matter much soon, though the rich may survive a little longer than the poor.

music i never get tired of
💙
Peter Gabriel admitted that this album influenced his music post-1985. Wait, what? No not the other way around. TBN influenced PG!
Have you heard/watched Gabriel doing Downside up, with Paul Buchanan and Elizabeth Frazer?
I believe the Blue Nile were influenced by Gabriel first.
My drive music
Que puta maravilla de grupo musical
I thought the singer sounded a lot like the guy from Dead Can Dance, had to check that they were really different people. ^^
You mean Brendan Perry. Yes, a bit. Another band I dearly love.
I see what you mean, but I think Paul Buchanan's voice is much nicer and Blue Nile writes better music.
Sounds like there's steel drums in this. Is there?
Amanda Laggan I know what you mean Amanda, not entirely sure, could be keyboard effects, synth or something, it’s very effective, gives it that distant, warm summers day feel, looking out across sunlit valley, through heat haze
@@howardjones7370 that instrument truly does give it warmth. I love your description. I could go on to say it's like a slice of sun hitting you in the face on an evening walk.
Amanda Laggan : It’s amazing really Amanda, it conjures up a certain quality of light that you only find on a particular day, I listen and I am instantly transported, I find that with the Blue Nile’s music, each song has it’s own unique identity and within the first few notes I have a mental picture in mind
Amanda Laggan : I am thinking a lot of the affects have been achieved either on marimba, or a marimba setting on synth. ua-cam.com/video/09TqAPwOBFs/v-deo.html
@@howardjones7370 I can't even begin to say how much I love marimbas and xylophones.
Body heat.. Kathleen Turner
Mp3's are shit. The blue nilr loses so much from vinyl and a great hi fi. And yes I was one of those crying masses at the lower free trade hall.
