- TTNG (formerly This Town Needs Guns) recently shed 25% of their band members and 75% of the letters in their name, but they're still 100% hard-hitting, finger-picking, "mathemagicians". Having recently released sophomore album '13.0.0.0.0,' the British trio came to the Exclaim! backyard to perform "Cat Fantastic" for Exclaim! TV.

someone's having a nice time watching ttng on a fire escape
God, I love this band. They might be the most talented three-piece group I've ever listened to.
I really love the way these guys play. The drummer surely adds a very nice vibe giving an aggresively percussive contrast to a calm ambience given by the guitars and bass - Henry's Bass VI always gives a really unique distinguishable sound that really makes me want to pick up a VI myself, plus his singing style fits very well. And last but not least, Tim's way of playing the guitar is outstanding, it's really unique alternating between fingerpicking and tapping, but on this song, it clearly puts a focus on giving the right tones to paint the landscape for the song - not only that, but I envy that Spidercapo! You guys over at TTNG surely are an inspiration, not only for each instrument and the way you approach them, but the way the songs themselves are too! Cheers!
It's a Squier Jaguar Bass he got from GAK, then modified it to become an affordable Bass VI. Then Fender brought out Squier Bass VI's at the start of the year. I have one, and it's beast!
+Tim Andersson nope, it's a homemade Bass VI! Baritone guitars are tuned B-E-A-D-F♯-B, whereas his modified Jaguar Bass VI is tuned like a regular guitar.
TITG(this is too good). happy new year everyone
I love you
Happy new years to you too. (posting this at 9pm est dec 31st)
That was Nate from Tera Melos!
There’s something so pleasing about this location and the way everything’s set up
I Finally had a chance to see them live this last saturday. It was freakin' awesome.
so good live
Midwest love
The bassist looks a little bit like Ewan McGregor. You know the dude who played Obi-Wan Kenobi.
I believe its a bass modified for 6 strings (Scale length gives this away, along with the bass pickups). The reason for this is because TTNG only play an octave apart from the guitar instead of two like a traditional bass would, allowing for more melodic sounding bass parts. I'm not 100% accurate on this but I'm sure he'll mention it in an interview somewhere
TTNG
10 years ... ❤ Math fantastic❤
Beautiful.
This is AWESOME!
Flawlessly executed. Great vid, guys!
that sounds great!
thanks to this video I also discovered Axes and tricot through the suggested videos!
Could some tell who of them is playing the bass? Is the vocalist the bassist too?
yup. the vocalist is the bassist too... he uses a modified squier jaguar bass
didaogirdor That's cool, the Math Rock has many details, just as the instruments they play...thanks
What amp is the guitarist playing? Looks like a Twin silverface unless its a black with a reflection. All those reverb amps look the same to me though..
Could someone tell me what that black thing on like the 3rd fret of his guitar is?
+mattguitar101 its a spider capo. It allows you to apply the capo to individual strings
+Jack Hooley Ah that's cool, cheers man!
Fucking amazing.
good job england!
the reason I want giving my ear freedom
I think it's actually a Fender Jaguar bass body with a Fender VI neck
green sneaker
Where was this filmed? It looks like West Philadelphia, in a gritty, green sneaks on the rusty fire escape sort of way.
Looked it up, its behind the Exclaim building in central Toronto, really doesn’t look like it though
What is the guitarist in the red hoodie doing with that pedal during the chorus?
Tap tempo for the subtle echo effect he's using
does anyone know what pedal tim is pushing during the chorus?
what moment?
Joan Saag like at 0:45 he is pushing a pedal on the downbeat of each measure. know what it is or what its doing?
Kyle Waselewski The only thing i could think of would be some form of reverb to make it sound like he's sustaining the notes but used more as a sustain pedal on a piano. Strange.
Edit: I think its a programmable board.
Crunchy Nutter but, if you listen it again, you will know that the sound of the guitar change with a little overdrive with every touch in the pedal in specifics notes
probably some type of octave pedal or harmonizer
it's a 6 strings bass tuned like a guitar
This answered a question that I didn’t even know I asked, but thank you.
2/4?
is that a baritone guitar?
Fender Jaguar 6 string Bass :)
nah its a baritone
A Fish Face Production Nah, it's actually a Fender Bass IV.
@@AFishFaceProduction ik I'm 5 years late but Henry (the bassist/singer) modded a squire jag to be a 6 string, its tuned just using normal standard tuning
The legs on the stairs seem very unimpressed
Sells PRS guitars and High Watt Amps (ENGL) and buys Fender Amp and Telecaster. I support that attitude! That's what I call common sense.
tengo la misma camisa que el baterista xD
(null)
as good as this lineup is.. i miss the old one.
lol Johns kick and floor tom
bad mix, great song
Haha he sounds like Kermit
