Little Eva getting the rightful recognition she truly deserves. The Goffin & King composition of “The Locomotion” still resonates over 60 years later with Little Eva putting a new dance craze securely on the map.

Carol King did not mention Little Eva even once in her published autobiography.

"The Locomotion" is easily one of the best and most exciting singles of the '60s and Eva nailed the vocal. I equally loved "Keep Your Hands Off My Baby". The studio players don't get enough credit; just listen to that drummer on those two great singles! The problem beyond those two songs was the same problem encountered by Claudine Clark after her smash "Party Lights". The producers kept saddling these artists with either lame remakes of older hit tunes or, even worse, with novelty records that were either corny or not really funny or clever. I bought "Old Smokey Locomotion" and also (unbelievably) "Let's Turkey Trot" (easily the campiest of her recordings). Even as a kid I recognized these records were too goofy to be taken very seriously, but novelty records were a thing back then. Poor Claudine was saddled with "Walkin' In a Cemetery", a pretty awful novelty record, after the huge success of "Party Lights". It bombed and she was left being a one hit wonder. Too bad the same fate befell Eva after her two hit singles. (If you really want to hear Eva do a novelty song her best one was her collaboration with Big Dee called "Swinging On a Star". It's really cute!. The only other things I have to say about this interesting video is: 1. the word you were looking for is "estranged", not "estranded" (no big deal, but noticeable) and 2. The problem with "He Hit Me (and it Felt Like a Kiss" is two-fold: it's not a very catchy or appealing song, and it unfortunately does romanticize physical abuse; that song would set the internet afire with criticism if released today. Too many women accepted abuse in their relationships back then, and too many still do. Abuse is not love, it is CONTROL, usually from a person who has no sense of control over themselves! You get treated the way you teach others to treat you. If you are being abused call the National Domestic Violence Hotline at 1-800-799-7233. Reach out to someone, it won't stop on its own, especially if there are drugs or alcohol involved.

I'm old enough to have had Little Eva as a babysitter & to have bought the Grand Funk cover version. My folks had her single in our family jukebox. ❤

Not bad. I think artists can get labeled by one big hit as maybe was the case with Little Eva. The Locomotion is a good song, but I prefer Keep Your Hands off my Baby. I think she could have branched into more different styles of music. And working with Ray Charles was quite an accomplishment.

Goffin, King, and Eva were set to release ONE FINE DAY but Eva's manager didn't like the song and convinced her not to record it so her lead vocals were erased and the tune was given to the Chiffons.

$50 for Locomotion? Not true. Just in 1962 alone Little Eva made $30,000 from that recording, which is the same amount Carole King made from it that year.

It's interesting that Carol King does even mention Little Eva's name even once in her autobiography. When Carol King appeared as a guest on the David Letterman show, she was asked by Mr Letterman where Little Eva had disappeared to. Carol gave a poker face and answered that she had no idea.

I will explain now. At that time, ''They'' just grabbed any black person from the street. In the late 50's, early 60's, this was a great brand new time for black folks. Another kind of rock and roll was beginning. Little ''Black'' Eva just fit that time, Not a for a future. She did not write songs. She was just a performer that could be replaced with no problem. Keep in mind, she was a Baby Sitter. Jewish Carol just needed a voice to her express her written song. The Jewish Black Connection is deep. Will explain later

The writers and their families are ''Okay'' for the rest of their lives. Don't let my comment distract you. Read some fairy Tales to match up to your reality. Matter of fact, alot of folks Thought Carol was black, by her name. Her real name is not Carol King by the way. Like the actor Tony Curtis. Not his real name. Jerry Lewis (My Idol) The Comedian. Not his his real name. There will be more Black and Jewish stories soon my friend. The Closet is soon opening. And that closet might not be for you. Read those Fairy Tales.
