During the discussion, Marquis explained how 2 Live Crew was formed. Marquis also gave his thoughts on the group's subject matter and how they became headline news as a result. He also described his relationship with the group's most recognized member, Uncle Luke, and what led to the group's split. To hear more, check out the full interview above.
R.I. P MY BROTHER!
Excellent, this has got to be one of the best interviews I've seen on VladTV!
Salute to Brother Marquis he’s a true legend & survivor. Wish him the best.
he is
W I will let Yuit 2 live Crew
All that happened you still stayed loyal and helped out your friend. God Bless you Brother Marquis.
Brother Marquis tells the classic record industry story!
Yes true they got robbed but they became famous and legends
You can tell he's been holding all this in for a long time
This was the realist interview ever.... Brother Marquis.. Marquis your brother 👍
What Tiny Head is this DJ ????
Hollar
Thank you so much Marquis! That was more honesty and courage than I've ever heard in a music business interview. Your music is tops, and your testimony is too.
Thanks for this interview, VLAD. Marquis is a legend in his own right!
Growing up in Miami as a teen and going to their shows, whenever I crossed paths with Brother Marquis we would glance and exchange smiles. He was different from the other 2. I was a hot mama but somehow he knew I was too young so he would just smile back. I was definitely crushing on him back then. He is a stand up guy ❤️💪
It's funny how we could get into their shows as teenagers (they came to Nashville when I was 13 years old in 1987). They were so underground our parents didn't get wind of 2 Live Crew till the free speech debates came out. If my folks knew about them it would have been a different story. Hip Hop was real organic back then!
It is cool to hear a woman say that she was hot as a youngster and a brother did not take advantage.
Hot Mama that honesty to the fullest. I don't know if Luke would've had the morals to just Smile 😁
What do you look like
RIP Brother Marquis
All I can hear is “yo this Marquis baby are you down with it?” 😂😂😂 Marquis is my guy keep your head up
😂😂🤣🤣
Sometimes when my wife calls me, I answer with that.
😅😂
Brother Marquis! Legend of the game! I'm still pumping Two Live Crew in my car from time to time. Their music gives off warm weather, freaky chicks, and party vibes!
This brother has a lot of sense and he seems genuinely solid. Came back to research this interview. Salute to Jacquie my Brother....
Rest in Peace you are 2 live Crew..he is a stand up guy
It's time for a 2 live Crew biopic!
Preach!
they wont put it on movie. WAYYYY too much pussy
Agreed. 👊
Well I met marquis and I was a grown woman love him ❤🎉🎉🎉305 pac jam memories 😊
Coolest slickest voice in hip hop. From high top fades to jerry curl juice, watch Marquis yall as I get loose. 2 Live is what we are!
Having interviewed many people on mic I want to give you props for 1) being a class act and 2) letting the man tell his story. Most interviewers would have steered it and you let him do it in his time and it is a far better conversation for it. I’m impressed.
Wooow what a interview, the stories about Luke damn!!!!!
I was a founder and member of a local DJ crew in in my city in Florida and they came and performed in the city. After the show me and one of my group members and road dog followed brother Marquis to the ATM and ask for his autograph he signed a five dollar bill for my road dog. I mean we trailed this man after his show to the ATM. We could have been trying to rob him or something. But he didn't blow us off or seam fazed at all. In the we hours of that morning. It had to be around 2 or 3 am. He just signed the auto- graph. Held a brief conversation with us and we parted ways. I always and still am a fan of the 2Live Crew. If I held the office of book em and they will come. You know they would head line that ticket. May you have good fortune where ever you step brother. You are a stand up man. Me and my crew would roll with you any time. But I'm going to close this comment session with this to Brother Marquis. (WHAT REWARD CAN THERE BE FOR GOOD? OTHER THAN GOOD. ✌🏿B UPON U. And with that being said, I'm 5000 G
Brother Marquis was my fav rapper from 2Live Crew my fav song is Hoochie Mama he was the voice meant to be the lead cant believe they are all close to 60s and Luke is in his 60s thats crazy but a lot of us that even grew up during the Miami bass era are late 40s/50s lol we were just teenagers time flies
I see you fam...Much love from your hometown... Attalla, Alabama 💪💪💯💯
After a concert a few of us white guys were let in to their hotel and remember being in elevator with luke and Marques in the 80's
Germany checking in....Childhood Hero and Legend up in this Mutha . Soundtrack of my youth ,Bro Marquis I wish you nothing but the best, God bless U and the 2Live Crew. RIP Fresh Kid Ice
I now see why Luke is mad @ this interview. 🤣🤣
Brother Marquis. U r still my dude. U were the center of attention. ✊🏾
I still bump "In The Dust" off The New Jack City Soundtrack.
I like these older ground breaking hip hop heads should be given royalties for the work they put in by every artist that comes after.
The way he tells the story sounds similar to NWA's if you imagine Luke = Eazy, Mr. Mixx = Dre, Brother Marquis = Cube, China Man = Ren.
Put some respect on Fresh Kid Ice’s name
This brother is clearly too nice for the industry. He wasn't built for it. How do you get fkd tht many times and still not learn? Hopefuly he gets what he's owed
Some people just have more respect and morals then usual and in this industry that will get you screwed up but he's not perfect but he was very humble from what I could here on this interview
exactly the nigga shot blanks at him with an AK should have been done then
R.I.P to Brotha Marquis
A true legend...I remember trying to push their music back in the day as a dj uptown in philly...the first hip hop group to make a live concert album! (No..it wasn't krs one.)
Wow what an interview!! Salute Brother Marquis!!! This story must be told , no matter how painful it is!!
Brother Marquis 2nd verse on ' In the Dust' off the New Jack City soundtrack is In my top 10. 🔥 verse
That baseline was dope!
Classic joint right there
If they only knew how big was The 2 Live Crew in Mexico City back then. "The Fuck Shop" "If You Believe In Having Sex" and all Mr. Mixx's megamixest were in everybody's car sound systems. Salute to the homie Brother Marquis!
Mega Mixx 3 was my favorite!
True!! 🙌🙌
I was in my mid teens when they came out....and me and my friends would listen to their "tape" over and over again. When we had two tens in the trunk....and not a care in the world. Brings back some awesome memories.
Luke was nothing but a hypeman for the group ( Flava Flav ).
I love 2 live crew my high-school years 86 to 90
2 days ago I asked Vlad to please release this interview and u came through! Thank u so much for that broski! Im a 41yr old white man from Florida and Im one of the biggest fans of Luke and The 2 Live Crew! The end segment Brother M. went HAM on Luke. He needed to get that out. Soooo, now get Mr. Mixx and get ahold of JT Money to bring this full circle. I have faith in u Vlad! 🍺😉👍

Growing up in Florida in the 80's . I use to go to Pittsburgh Pa in the summer . One year i took that music to Pittsburgh and they had never heard any music like that before . Shoutout to DJ Styles from Braddock PA for playing the Miami sound of music that i grew up with Those was some great summers in Penn.
Don't Fuck with Vlad but had to listen to the Brother Marquis from Clearwater grew up on this man
I would like to set the record straight. As the one who represents Brother Marquis, Uncle Luke and Chris Wong Won in their termination case, I would like it to be known Chris Wong Won did not die broke. He died without having his rights to the 2 Live Crew albums, having others assume that he did. Before his passing Chinaman broke away from Lil Joe and ventured on to mentor upcoming artists under his label Chinaman records. He was negotiating million dollar deals right before his death and getting his business right. In fact he was getting his business so right it was because of HIM that I was able to locate the contracts for the 2 Live Crew members that are 35 years old. If he didn't save these contracts we would not be at the end of our termination case about to take back his music. He passed not having all he should have but far from broke. He was the wealthiest of them all in regards to the love respect he has from the music community. R.I.P Chinaman Know am fighting for you all.
I saw a video of you and bmq talking shop about getting the music back. You obviously know bmq so why is he saying chinaman died broke if he didnt? Since youre commenting, clarify some more because this whole ordeal is a big clusterfk.
@@jimmyjump8335 that's how he perceived it. He wasn't fully aware of Chinaman's business nor was it my right to tell him. If he would of asked he might of been told. If anyone took a small amount of time they would of found out what Chinaman was doing in his last days. People are so quick to take what others say without researching. That's why it's important people don't speak on others unless they have The hard facts
What Jimmy said cause I'm confused
@@BENWORKIN89 honestly there is so much. All of it doesn't need to be understood or told. Consequences of all the mistakes falls on the members. The fans should want to celebrate them for all the brought to their lives and the historic acheivements they accomplished together. They should support their mission on taking back ownership of the music. All the rest should be left to them to heal from since they were the ones who suffered.
@@necolekey I've done extensive research through the tabloids and word on the streets, and came to the conclusion. He was broke!
Mind blowing interview. Sad man. Sad. I used to want to be these guys when I was a kid. Love his frankness because knowing the stuff behind the curtains help all us musicians make better business decisions. Shout out to BMQ for keeping it 💯
Who here in 2024 listen to this interview RIP
I saw this before but I have to save this one because I NEVER KNEW about Luke. Great job Vlad for getting this story out. 😳🤯
Uncle Luke already responded to this... Sad... I was such a fan until the truth came out. BMQ seems like a real gentleman. Thanks for giving this interview. Him and Mr Mixx should do a show online.
I always felt that Luke didn't belong for some reason and it seemed like he would do what he actually did to his group members. I knew it and I felt it in my heart
@@martymart42 he was a great hype man... His voice is as near iconic as flavor flavs... but yeah he was always suspect. Being in Fl in the early 90s and getting the bug for that miami sound, the deep bass and 808s i absolutly fell in love with the Crew... So sad to hear how BMQ got screwed over so badly
Yeh, BMQ did an interview with Doggie Diamonds last year. I guess it wasn’t a big enough platform for Luke to respond, but BMQ called him out on there big time too.
Didn't catch Luke response. What's was the just of it?
@@boldenassociates9180 some BS and excuses
I am 46 now. I bought that Band in the USA album at 11 years old.
Me too!
I believe that's around the time the parental guidance sticker came out. That particular 2 Live Crew album definitely had it on it. I was able to purchase it anyway too.
Salute to brother marquis he my favorite form the 2 live crew member stay bless my bother 🙏🏽🙏🏽🙏🏽🙏🏽
I got mad love for the 2 Live Crew. It makes me proud to be from Florida and we got a rap group that changed the rap industry forever. But they never get talked about like that. Watching this interview, we need a 2 Live Crew biopic, cause they are a huge part of the music industry. Without them, nobody in today’s game would rap about getting p*ssy or f*cking a female in their records.
100 % true my friend; as a fellow SoFlorian , so happy I grew up where I did and experience so much that I have . So proud of my Miami memories and history!!!!!
Boy Uncle Luke and the 2Live crew had the hardest live performance in the nineties
Had to see this b4 the Hulu Freaknik documentary come out… this was them aunties soundtrack 😂😂👀🍿
Rochester, NY!!
Throw that D local hit?! Bruh that was one of the dopest beats of all time! 808s everything- if you got some 10s 12s in your ride- put that in there and crank it up… tell me I’m lying!!!
Love Brother Marquis! I saw the 2Live Crew live in Detroit, MI back in about 1990 and they were amazing! Luike, Fresh Kid Ice, Brother Marquis and Mr. Mixx were the absolute best ever! Sooooooo funny I still can't stop laughing! Brother Marquis and Fresh Kid Ice worked together as a team back and forth and it made it really unique. Not only did they have great lyrics but their music and beat were phenomenal. Dick Almighty is my favorite - OMG LOL!. All the best to Brother Marquis!
maaan I loved 2 Live Crew growing up! Marquis was my favorite! that era was golden!
Yes!!!
Brother Marquis is my type of guy! Salute to Marquis , I feel you my man , I feel you.
Brother Marquis is one of my childhood heroes.😁💯‼️🔥
RIP Fresh Kid Ice
RIP Brother Marquis
Damn this is hard. Life is too short.
I remember this brother. It was fun to watch them. It look like they where simply having fun. I never took anything negative from their music. I always felt it was just music and nothing else. You have to have a mind of your own.
2 live crew is one of hip hop biggest legendary acts one love too brother marquis
I’m from Palm Beach, and it was the same energy.
2 live crew still rules badass rappers in the History.
I Seen 2 Live Crew like
Luke was the Eazy E
Brother Marquis was the Ice Cube MINUS the Business Sense
China Man was the Mc Ren
and Mr Mixx was the Dr Dre.
Excellent Comparison!
Yeah marquis is a cool down to earth brother. My favorite out the group.
I knew it was something off about Luke, every since H Town.... so glad for this interview 🙌🏿🤌🏾💯🖤
Rest in peace Brother Marquis.. He was always my favorite 😢 Well, he definitely poured out his feelings in this interview. I believe he did so, so there will be no misunderstanding how he felt.
Best interview ever hope we get a movie series on them
brother Marquis is real - he use to not only rock the mic at the Park - Boardwell Park in Riverside the brotha was Sharp - a real role model , kool Geed Up, drinkin on a 40ty, We looked up to Brother Marquis he was a Star before he even blew Up

Luke was grimey but trick daddy called him out on his first album then H-Town came out about him and that female group he had called him out but I never knew this about 2 live crew but I should have known
When I first heard them in high school around 1990 that changed my world lol..... we ALL loved them beats.... guys and girls equally!
The 90s was the best decade for music but it’s just unfortunate that a lot of talented artists (especially groups) were not properly compensated for their work. Don’t forget the R&B group H Town (Knockin The Boots) was signed to Luke as well. They had a dope catalog, but probably could of been MUCH bigger had they not signed to him.
These people were nobody until luke discovered them
Bro the t shirts in the hood with h town back in the day knocking the boots in the back, or hammer time bro 90s we’re a great time to grow up good and bad,
The last generation to have to figure it out yourself and get your ass whooped and live and learn shit go outside lol
Hey Glad! Bring dude back for more. His interview was entertaining
"He didn't die for nothing but he died for nothing"‼️💔 THAT'S SOME REAL ISH RIGHT THERE‼️✊🏾😎
Yes!!! I love my old school legends I grew up listening to on VladTV now. Just watched the Too $hort segment, it was dope!
Absolutely have to get Rodney O and Joe Cooley on this!!!!
We need Mr Mix story of 2 live crew !
He's telling the truth. Much Respect
If you didn't notice Vlad was taken back just as much as most of you were. He tried to remind Marquis of the historic acheivements they obtained as a group and what they meant to their fans. Vlad was crushed as you all were. Remember he had a childhood full of memories of 2 Live Crew. I can tell he didn't want to hear all he heard

The tone of his voice even change
Ya not snitching at all my brother, ya telling your story!! Salute 🫡

Respect Brother Marquis!
He is truely poorin his heart out.
You can tell that thats his purpose of this whole interview. Word 100%!
The truth must be told!
I can understand that.
He has no respect for Luke ..what so ever, and he's right.
It shines a whole other light on the 2 live crew as a band.
Its a dirty story but it is what it is.
Peace Brother Marquis for telling us fans the truth!

I REMEMBER MEETING BRO MARQUIS AND 🙏🏿FRESH KID ICE 🙏🏿WHEN THEY CAME TO GRAMBLING.. HE WAS THE MOST COOLEST DUDE YOU WOULD EVER COME ACROSS.. HAD THE EXTREME PLEASURE OF SHAKING BOTH THEIR HANDS… R I P FRESH KID ICE🙏🏿
The reason Dre and Snoop diss Luke on Dre Day because he made a song called Fakin Like Gangsters on his first solo album I Got S___ On My Mind basically dissin everyone in N.W.A.
HEY,VLAD. YOU FORGOT SHY-D'S FIRST ALBUM "GOTTA BE TOUGH". The song "Shake It" came out around '87-'88. on his second album.
RIP FAMILY
This shit makes me mad as hell. I used to buy so many tapes and here I was thinking of that $10 I spent on say Banned in the USA maybe $1 goes to Mr Mixx, $1 to Fresh Kid Ice, $1 to Marquis, $2 to Luke since he owned the record company, and then maybe the other $5 per tape sold went to stuff like production, marketing, sample clearance, the retailer's cut, etc. Had I known how badly rappers were getting fcked back then by the crooks running the labels I would have probably shoplifted a lot of tapes instead of buying them thinking I'm helping make this talented artist I look up to a multi millionaire. Guess I was like Wallace in that scene with the chicken nuggets in the first episode of The Wire.
🤣🤣
Sunrise FL, I used to cut his hair and he always had the dopest stories. He was dealing with a dui and had to ride his bike to the shop and nobody would pay him no mind and he preferred it that way then one day I just never saw him again.. this was like 15 years ago. R.I.P
That was very interesting. Seems like the kind of guy who would give the shirt off his back. Hard to fly with the eagles when you're surrounded by turkeys.
Wow I feel Brother Marquis pain in this interview.... He telling the truth...
