*I really think you guys NEED to at the very least have an expert at the game in the video to answer questions at the end, or I'm pretty sure some wouldn't mind literally just getting an employee on standby to search things on google.*
These people are the go tos cuz they ACTUALLY ARE experts at what's being shown here.. it's NOT people that got NO IDEA about fighting... critiquing fighting. An these aren't White belts they're ACTUAL Black Belt experts here.
Kinda of a poor choice having martial artists react to GUILTY GEAR of all the other "normal" fighting games. There's no motion capture, there's not much realism and it's a anime game full made out of music references. Would be better to see the reactions of animators tbh.
@@pikachuattack542 I get what you are saying, but I don't find it interesting listening how an actual martial artist would deal with FAUST or POTEMKIN.
He's kicking because he has frame advantage. In that situation the sword will take minimum 2-3 frames longer to be active. Even if the sword was mid strike, the kick would connect first, thereby negating the sword strike. It would also trigger a Counter hit state resulting in a punish combo and possible wall breaking situation.
The guy was so excited about proper sword drawing technique, and I was like: "Wait until they show you *Baiken,* bro!" 😃 They didn't show them Baiken. 😑🤦🏻♂️
man i love guilty gear one thing i love about this game is the art thats always over looked by alot of gamers i feel like art teams never get the respect they deserve
Dude, the only thing people respect about STRIVE is the art. Whenever I hear someone talk about how "great" STRIVE is, they never mention the gameplay. There's a reason for that.
One of the "viewer questions" asked was "Does clothing make a difference when doing mocap?" and they explained that it really doesn't as when doing mocap only article of clothing you're wearing while doing mocap is the motion-capture suit.
With how the art style of this game really aiming to be like as much as 2D animation as possible with 3D models, I’m kinda doubting mocap was used for this.
@@kaylemathewcomendador6964everything Arc System Works does is animated by hand, every pose adjusted one frame at a time, like stop motion. That's why it looks so authentic to 2D animation.
Did they really just avoided Leo's back stance? That was literaly the only thing I would have waited them to have actual takes about. Putting martial art is on guilty gear is pretty fool. Like what did you expected them to say. Honestly a prompt about how would you fight them would have been much more i'tresting. Like that take on faust. That could have been fun.
How about Rock/Metal enthusiast reacts to Guilty Gear? There’s a lot of music references that even made me chuckle. I can’t think of Slayer without thinking “F*CKIN SLAYEEEERRRRRRR”!!!! 🤘
The interesting thing about Ramlethal is that she's actually keeping her swords sheathed at all times so it's not really Iaido, altho I guess you could sort of equate her little carrier guys as the sheath. She uses her swords bluntly, the only time we've seen the blades is in her Instant Kill in Xrd. Not only does Goldlewis's coffin have a chain on it, it has a handle on the other side to hold it more closely, and the ends of it also have a giant meat tenderizer surface on it lol, it's wild. There's also an alien inside that deploys some other weaponry for him like a gatling gun and a drone bomb. I'm not super familiar with yoyo stuff, but from what I've heard, a lot of Bridgets moves are based on real yoyo tricks, her animations are pretty intricate with how the strings are animated. Apparently in the old games she was in that used pixel art, having to animated all the strings of the yoyo attacks basically made it twice the work of animating any other character. Slayers whole gimmick is that as a vampire, he's so much physically stronger than most of his opponents, so in game he actually pulls his punches a lot, and you can see that in some of the animations like his close slash and Pile Bunker he's holding on to his striking arm with his other arm to literally hold it back just a bit, and yet those are still two of his most devastating moves to be hit by. I'm surprised to see an episode on this game! There's a good bit of detail with certain characters in terms of fighting styles but with a lot of them it's just hard to see because of the way the game works, each move kinda goes by so fast. Nagoriyuki and Giovanna were definently *the* ones to show off. Nagoriyuki is a trained samurai, and not only is he based on Yasuke, he's implied to be the Guilty Gear universe equivalent to Yasuke, and he's also a vampire which is how he lived from that time all the way into Guilty Gears time. Giovanna is Brazilian and takes heavy influence from capoeira, she probably has the most grounded fighting style in the game, but I mean that being said these characters all fight like they're Dragon Ball characters lol. A good one to include here would've been Johnny who uses lightning fast Iaido, he slashes his sword so fast that you don't even see it exit the sheath, it's super badass. Chipp, Baiken and Sin would have also been cool to see, seeing as Chipp is a ninja and Baiken and Sin both have some really wild weaponry. A flag user in particular would probably be very interesting to them I would imagine.
Just a quick fact for duel wielding swords. In HEMA (Historical European Martial Art), duel wielding is actually used in combat. Usually you would have one longer sword and one shorter sword for the manoeuvrability across the two swords (you would usually use a short sword/bastard sword (yes you would include a rapier here) and a dagger). The dagger would be used like a shield with an option for stabbing, but it would mostly be used as a parrying tool. Another note is that when in a grappling situation, the dagger would be way easier to use due to its size.
ALSO IT IS KIND OF IMPORTANT TO MENTION MAGIC EXISTS IN GUILTY GEAR. It's far more interesting to have experts talk about what they'd do *given the laws of the fictional universe* than just IRL.
fun fact we have a animated dilm where the protag use a yoyo as a weapon today i learn there is a myth using yoyo as weapons but honestly if you have a steel one i can see it use in a dirty school fight
never expect realism in fighting games. dual swords are pretty effective and got lots of advantages over single, but the guy in this vid just got no experience with them. it might not have been used that much traditionally since its a lot easier, and also mostly more practical to just have a big sheild or a buckler. kicking a sword into someones fave is pretty hard since you'd have to kick direct and also not have your sword cut your hand. It also depends on if you are hitting closer or further from the handle. generally swords are not bad at blocking blunt weapons. but only in video games do you even want to hit a sword thats used to block. why would you use jiujitsu when you got a weapon. kicking twice before landing is really effective if you can pull it off and got the athleticism. its just most people never spar with it. its one of the most basic combos. flying knee>kick if you lose range. its not exclusive to capeoera
It’s funny to see them try analyzing & adding realism to a game that ain’t really aiming for realism. I doubt they used mocap for this game, with it aiming to look as 2D animated as possible & all. I’m surprised Baiken ain’t here, as I’m curious to see their takes on someone fighting with a sword with one hand.
Well...they should have not react to a video game that clearly has lots of fantasy fighting styles and is far from realism. I can't believe I'm saying this but this is the worst react ever made
