  • As part of the renovation of the Wellington Hangar the Vickers Vimy and Wellington have to go under temporary covers for the duration of the work. To free up space for these structures, Concorde, a BAC 1-11 and a VC10 Fuselage had to be repositioned.
A team of volunteers gathered on the morning of Friday the 12th of August 2016 to undertake this operation. This Video was the best I could do while also helping with the operation, but it does give you a good idea of what volunteers get up to at Brooklands and remember we are always interested in those with the skills to join us.

Great video guys. It's a shame it all happened when I wasn't there. It was interesting to turn up this morning and play spot the 1-11. My poor Varsity is stuck right out of the way at the back, and is one of the more interesting aircraft internally.

that's great! I wish if they built a platform at the front of the concorde which allows people to take selfies with it at high level

Is it possible to rebuild the Victor-Mike VC10 with parts from existing RAF VC10's? Assuming there are any left?

Jet Jackson Jet Jackson Sadly no...... the money mad scrap metal guy at Bruntingthorpe cut up the VC10,s SO FAST with not a thought about saving ANYTHING, destroyed all hope of that. He probably would have made more selling keepsakes off the aircraft, i would have paid THOUSANDS for a pilots seat! Luckily I have a few parts I saved when we scrapped XR809 at Kemble in 1977! But only odd switches as we had to rob the poor old lady to provide parts for the rest of the fleet at Brize, where i was based for 10 years.

Also the airframe has likely met the cycle rating.

Sadly the muppet that got the contract to break up the VC10's was money mad as the Skytrain bloke says. Rather than use his ONE brain cell and sell off PARTS as souvenirs (which would have made him a lot more money) he destroyed the airframes as quick as he could. Very sad for such loved aircraft. Thankfully one remains with us at Duxford that is very will looked after by the team.

hello andy do all aircraft point the same degree....southwest...

That is more or less the target for the big aircraft as that is the prevailing wind direction.

Only until the museum can raise the millions it is going to cost to cover the remaining aircraft that are still outside. Any donations would be very welcome.

I used to be a trustee at Brooklands as I am a retired VC10 engineer. I resigned because I am so disgusted at how they have let the museum get shoved into a tiny corner whilst Mercedes take over! The Germans could NOT destroy it in the war so they made sure to get hold of it after! Also the VC10 has been left to ROT in a disgusting condition! In comparison there is one of similar age (G-ARVF) in Germany at one of their aircraft museums and it looks like NEW! They actively CARE for their charges as these are historical aircraft. So little respect is shown to the VC10 with the Cosford one (G-ARVM) unceremoniously being SMASHED TO BITS - (the one you moved here) This is UNFORGIVABLE. All they care about is the Concorde - could you IMAGINE ONE of them being cut up!!! SO I have never returned to Brooklands. Frankll;y that WHOLE OVAL TRACK should have been GRADE ONE LISTED by the govermnent and RESTORED. In other countries a track as improtant as Brooklands would be a NATIONAL TREASURE :((( Imagine vintage races on the whole track - a complete runway for visitng aircraft etc.
I actually applied to BUY a complete VC10.......I was refused! I even havd land to keep it on and HUNDREDS of mates who built or worked on them. I owned a WW2 airfield and control tower, but my application to turn it back into a restored airfield failed. This country's lack of Heritage protection APALLS ME.
I have now heard that Wisley airfield is going to be MORE UNWANTED HOUSES!!!!! for Gods sake PROTECT that site its a valuable historic site.
