  • Amazing waterfalls, miles of solitude and mountain peaks, the North Fork of the Blackfoot River has it all. Carving a path through the middle of the Scapegoat Wilderness, the North Fork is one of the most used trails for the first six miles, then one of the least used thereafter.
    This is the video of a 3-day, 30-mile, solo backpacking trip in the Scapegoat Wilderness, which is the southern gateway of the Bob Marshall Wilderness Complex in Montana. I explored the North Fork falls (not easy to do!), Carmichael cabin and climbed up toward Evans Peak for a look around.

      Perfect timing! Hope you have a great trip; it's a fantastic area and little visited beyond the North Fork Cabin.

    This took me back! I worked on a Forestry Service trail crew during the summer of 1966, setting up camp at the first bridge on the North Fork of the Blackfoot. We'd work ten days straight. By the end of fifth day, before the sun disappeared from the valley, we'd take a bath in the river. The icy water made for a rather short affair.

    I stumbled upon your channel researching this very trail. It’s been a dream of mine to hike in the greater Bob and I’m finally going to make it happen. Thanks for a great video. Can’t wait to check out the area myself.

    I like your videos Dan. You are fortunate to live in the area with close access of so many wonderful trails. I live in eastern North Carolina. There are trails however not as high as the ones you depict. I would love to get out west. Love your music too.

      Glad you like them! I try to be grateful every day for where I live (although, I also believe there is beauty to be found wherever we are, if we're willing to see it). Thanks so much and happy trails!

    what a beautiful region.. just magical. i've always thought it was a shame that many nobo cdters rip through it concerned with the coming snows. that's why i think i'd prefer southbound when i get the chance to do it. arguably a shorter window but you get to enjoy what is to my mind the truly jaw-dropping stuff. thanks for showing us around ;)

      It was a bit of a discovery for me too. It's a good reminder to try and be 'present' and open to the beauty of wherever we are, versus always thinking about "what's next?' Thanks for watching Rigby!

    A really enjoyable video presented in a relaxed manner, what was your total pack weight for the trip, also what footwear were you using, thanks again Gary UK

      Hey Gary, glad you enjoyed it! TPW was 28 lbs.(12.7K), which was a little heavy for me, but I was carrying extra gear for cold weather, fishing, and camera gear. Footwear was a pair of Vasque trail runners (I showed them in the video about footwear: ua-cam.com/video/EKovv8mdYnQ/v-deo.html Thanks for the questions! Cheers.

    Busts out a peanut butter bacon and honey bagel ... films bear skat the next morning 😁 ... I suppose the only thing missing from that bagel was actual bear pheromones 🤣

      Ha ha, yup! Sometimes I like to hike with sausages strung around my neck too. Good for the wildlife shots! :-) 😬😅

    Quite impressive to see how much damage that avalanche did. The tress were piled like matchsticks. Quick question about your Khufu inner. From your experience have you ever felt like you needed a solid walled inner?

    • @ShastaBubba
      @ShastaBubba  4 роки тому +1

      Not really, but I haven't winter camped with it yet. Blown, fine snow would be the only occasion I can imagine that solid walls would make a difference.

    Great video! I was actually apart of the crew that built that new bridge by the cabin. We built that one in 2019 and last year (2020) we replaced the lower bridge with the same type of bridge! I have some videos of the process on my youtube channel of you want to check it out. Also by the way the forest service designs the bridges but the actually building/installation is done by private contractors like the one I work for.

      Very cool! Thanks and thanks also for your hard work on that beautiful bridge. Cool channel too -- looks like some great adventures of your own!
