    hello, thank you for these videos. These videos have been the last pieces of the puzzle for me. My professor play in this exact way and although I he and I are trombone players, I believe that the approach is the same. All of the methods books and exercises and buzzing... just never made sense. Musicians talk about free buzzing and sound and all of this an yet they have SO much tension that it is completely contradicting to everything that is written, even by famous players. "Don't think about it, just do it," was something that always killed me for I am a very literal person and I need to know how things work, specially if I am going to do this for the rest of my life as well as passing down the knowledge that I have gained to others. Thank you so much for helping me better understand the concepts that were missing (such as the "aaauuuu, the use of less air and where the resonance of the note really comes form)! I hope to one day meet you and have a lesson personally.

    Greg, all of your sound advice worked beautifully for me back in September and this was all true. However, ever since a bad 2 week period of marching band performances, none of this works and my sound hasn't been the same at all.
    How long does it take to overcome an overplaying injury? I have 9 weeks in the summer to go as slow as I need to.

    • @mysterytomastery1
      @mysterytomastery1  5 років тому

      Hi Matthew, I am sorry to hear about your injury and YES, marching band can be really destructive. I can't really comment on the time period without knowing more information Have you seen this www.mysterytomastery.com/windworks-sign-up It is super cool and will get you back on track. Cheers, Greg

    Hi Greg.
    Hope you are well.
    When we start on low notes will that not make it more difficult to play higher?
    Som advocates starting no lower than middle g or middle c. Mr. Van Cleave does.
    Jeff Smiley does. (Even higher)
    Do you have any thoughts on that?
    (I started low and have never been able to play what I wanted, but thats probaly a lot of other issues too)
    Take care.

      @mysterytomastery1  5 років тому

      Hey Erik, starting higher requires added exertion than the beginner is not ready for and sets a terrible psychology for advancement. Please make sure you work through the FREE Largo Status Stage of the WindWorks course at the MTM site. It is explained really clearly there. Cheers, Greg www.mysterytomastery.com/windworks-sign-up

    Greg do you hum the note for every note. so when you play a c in the stave you hum a Bb in the stave. A low G below the Stave so you hum a low F. etc thanks Gary

    • @mysterytomastery1
      @mysterytomastery1  5 років тому

      @buildashoe Hi Gary, I don't get too caught up on the pitch to be honest, it is more about the feeling. I talk heaps about it in the new Singing C Series in the WindWorks Course. Cheers, Greg www.mysterytomastery.com/windworks-sign-up

    You have very good natural teaching skills! You should quit that rock band you're in and go back to college. J/K Yeah, I'm one of them older players you mentioned. I majored (unsuccessfully) in trumpet back in the 70's, yet was not aware of the physics & resonance involved in tone production and I thank you for finally bringing it to my attention! (OK, convince me NOT to start doing isometric exercises to build facial muscles! I can see you either built yours up or were born that way...?)

    • @mysterytomastery1
      @mysterytomastery1  5 років тому

      @boboala1 Very amusing! You can develop the required musculature by smart playing practices without falling into the psychological trap of "it's all about strength!!!" PLEASE Do the free Largo Status Stage of the WindWorks course. It will all makes sense! Cheers, Greg

    But it doesn't look like you're keeping that ooooo when you play those notes. Looks more closed, maybe play the note and take the trumpet/mouthpiece away from your lips to give a better idea. It just looks more like an mmmmm instead of ooooo

    • @mysterytomastery1
      @mysterytomastery1  6 років тому

      Hey Russell, you are indeed correct. I talk a lot more about this in the WindWorks course. The aaahoooh is the starting place. It is for drawing attention to the "aperture corners" and to discover the sensation of freedom. We start low and as we ascend we change SHAPE without compromising the feeling of freedom developed at the aaahoooh stage. It's really simple to do but rather complex to explain. Go to www.mysterytomastery.com/windworks-sign-up and get started for free. You'll love it. Cheers, Greg

      @@mysterytomastery1 I was trying to keep the ooooooo seeing while playing although it will work but it kills endurance. Lol glad you rolls me this

    • @mysterytomastery1
      @mysterytomastery1  5 років тому

      @russellstraight It's all about the feeling of freedom and making a great sound as easily as possible. I have a new series called the Singing C Series where I talk abut this heaps. Please try out the FREE Largo Status Stage of WindWorks. It's a FREE 3 hour course that you can do over a week (or lifetime if you already have my book) but will really get you sorted.
