Great review thanks. I’m still rocking the V1 DJI goggles with caddx vistas for most of my flying but I still have a set of original HDOs with rapidfire if I want to fly analogue. This fixed low latency looks very interesting though and the lower resolution looks good enough even on UA-cam. I’m guessing I would need the HDzero goggles to take advantage of this? Am I correct in thinking adding a HDzero VRX to my HDOs won’t cut it?
Currently only the hdzero goggles do 90fps but the standalone receiver may support it in the future. However without the 90fps display and the end to end sync that is only possible with the hdzero goggles, you won't get the full advantage.
Its really hard to explain it to people, they have to personally try flying a 90fps cam with the HDZG to understand. I have yet to find anyone, regardless of what they prefer, that hasn't almost immediately said, "Woa..." (Neo from the Matrix), when they fly it. I don't even care about the video quality reduction, something about it just makes it feel like magic. If you sit there on a bench and look at it, yeah, the resolution reduction is noticeable and a little offputting. However, as soon as you take off? That goes away and literally nothing matters except for how buttery smooth it feels. My biggest concern as a racer, is just going to be smashing those gorgeous cams on conduit gates and the significant amounts of crying my wallet will be doing.
The 90fps camera really is that good. I regret only getting 3 of them now and I ordered more but have no idea when they will arrive. That is, in my opinion, the biggest downside of the system right now: hardware availability and waiting for an unknown amount of time to receive it. We in the US have been spoiled by the super fast shipping of RDQ and Pyro.

I ordered it, then later that afternoon I realized the red flags, and put in a ticket with PayPal. They refunded my money immediately, but I guess the company didn't get the cancellation notice on the other end, and two weeks later a cheap $9 banggood special wristwatch showed up in my mailbox lol. They got some pretty clever scams going on these days. I went back and investigated and realized they were lifting all of the pictures and product information directly from the site of the original brand product, and then photoshopping out the labels on the chair back. 🙃 I'm usually hyper skeptical and critical, but that rouse was so elaborate, it didn't click immediately. 🥴🫠 This one is rife with red flags. 😅
I maidened my Five33 Lightswitch with 90 fps camera less then 24 hours ago. All I can say, once you see 90fps at 15ms latency, it's hard going back to 60fps. And not to mention, plug the goggle to PC running drone sim and run it at 720p@100Hz, is just unreal.
I know pros can compensate for flaws in control/vision systems and exploit benefits of them. Would be interesting to have a big shootout in how it affects amateurs. Does it help to learn, does it make no difference, does it make you complacent. For instance the piloting skill required for last minute corrections might not be as beneficial to novice or it can make it easier to move closer to that line. And one thing is perception like with resolution it's quite obvious but with things like latency consistency it's not that obvious unless we go to extreme ends. It would be a massive undertaking but would be awesome to see preferably in a close to scientific study design principles shootouts of how latency/image quality/ consistency of latency/level and type of breakup affects varous levels of experience for FPV.
i tend to think this is real. more coherent image is a subtle thing when it comes to fpv, its nowhere near as good as the naked human eye, but every step towards the eyes natural ability will give a serious boost to the feel and coherence of the image. resulting in, better confidence.
Hi Joshua, happy to see this. I have Preordered the Race Bundle can`t wait to hold it in my hands, I have a Question i fly R-XSRs in all my quadt till now. And some years ago it was a feelable Latency step binding those with 8Ch against 16Ch mode. What RC Link do you have Used for this Flights and is there a noticeable better feeling if you do the same quad with 500Hz Elrs? Finger to eye Latency should be the best with this combination.
I can’t help but wonder if some of the magic comes from the progressive scan of the image too. Like yes, analog can be almost the same latency, but you’re only getting half the image with each frame. Maybe there’s something about the entire image updating every 11ms that just pushes it over the threshold of smoothness. Anyway I ordered a 90fps cam and I’m excited to see what it’s all about.
I'm beginning to see some talking down about other systems. I think every FPV system has it own use case. I have HDZ and Walksnail VRX. Yesterday I maidened my Walksnail freestyle/ LR qwad, and got what I expected. Far superior image quality compared to HDZero, and penetration is better. Doesn't mean Walksnail is better than HDZ. I still going to buy a few more HDZ 90 fps camera for my racing qwsd. And I will buy 1 or 2 more Walksnail VTX and camera too for 5" or fix wing. And if I have the money, I will buy the Dji 03 with Goggle 2 too. I think that will be best system to put on a cinewhoop. I'll be stupid if I put the HDZ 90 fps camera on a cinewhoop, coz that 90fps means nothing when flying slow when image quality and penetration is more important. So there's really no need to argue which is the best system. Even analog has its own merits. Like can Dji, HDZero or Walksnail do audio from qwad?
Question is, what does this do to your muscle memory. I would love to see you fly with this 3ms latency for a while then switch back to DJI and see what happens. Personally, I love freestyle where I have better clarity. I don't fly with a gopro, so I'm usually just going back and looking at my DVR footage. I can totally see this being the go-to platform for racing or even 65-75mm freestyle. I just can't wrap my head around this being a daily driver for someone though.
It’s truly great to see you get enthusiastic about HDZERO. The static and interference is still an issue for me especially from DJI but I think that half of that is people not bringing their power down to 25mW
Take that setup to a bando or parking garage. Or anyplace you’d have big structures you’d have to punch through. Would it still be your new goto? It’s the breakup that keep my hdzero setups from going with me to the flying sessions. Now 1s whoops it’s a game changer.
Ugh, I have the Eachine 800Ds, just ordered the Skyzone Cobra Xv2. I'm wondering if I should order the HDZERO's before the hundred dollar price jump early next month.
Isn't this the product of two independant systems? Low latency gives you more reaction time to control inputs and higher frame rates provides earlier perception to visual cues. The combination likely releases less adrenaline before resolution to the stimulus.
curious . how many watts is your solar . is it off grid or tied in? I have a 24 v 3680 watt solar . with 16 6 volt battery's off grid . solar is a good hobby also .
I been messing with HD zero since before it was HD zero. Its come a long way and I really like it but I still think I would fly analog or DJI unless I was 100% sure I would not lose VTX. The breakup that HD zero has isn't forgiving enough i guess I would say. Its like oh breakup.....Snow I have snow. Maybe that would be better with more powerful VTX I don't know.
Hey Joshua, have you tried the simulator on a 360 Hz monitor? I was flying 60 Hz for the longest time and just switched, and you and I have almost the same reaction to improvement. Was easily able to take four more seconds per lap off each track. Would love to know your thoughts or see a video of your reaction if you're running 60hz
I fly dji, the resolution really spoils you. I plan on picking up hdzero goggles in the very near future basically for hd whoops. Cause I never enjoyed a micro quad with dji for anything other than exploratory flying in canopy. I want a hd tinywhoop
Currently it is only compatible with the hdzero goggles. HDZero has said they might make compatibility with the RX module in the future, but here's the thing: the RX module is almost always used with goggles that have 60fps screens. So you wouldn't get the 14 ms latency, and in fact most goggles have higher latency on their HDMI input. So to really get the most advantage, you need the HDZero goggles.
@@JoshuaBardwell ahhh... yes, touche. I hadn't even thought about the screens in other goggles running at 60 hz. That's why you get paid the big bucks! 🤑
I switched to DJI when it first came out. At first I loved how clear it was and how much more I could see. Over time I started to feel like I was flying worse and worse, so I slowly stopped flying because it just wasn't as enjoyable for some reason. About a month ago I started flying again, after about 8 months of not flying. I instantly noticed how bad the latency is and realized that's why I lost the enjoyment and interest. Really tempted to try this setup, but the video quality leaves a lot to be desired compared to DJI... If only we could get the best of both worlds. Great video as always. Hopefully I can find someone local that has this setup that'll let me try it out.
How clear do you need the image to be when you are moving fast and quick decisions are made on the fly? I understand how clarity can make you better, but latency will only make you worse......
@@sunsetpark_fpv Most of the cool places I have to fly are heavily wooded areas and over rivers and creeks. Being able to see little branches, leaves, and small electrical lines can be just as important as being able to react quickly
I also noticed that most locals here that switched to DJI back then, already quit flying. So I was wondering wether they would have quit anyway or was it the same reason as you
@@wasispeeding1021 Oh I get it. Flying in wooded areas with lots of scraggle definitely needs the clearest view possible, or else you will wind up stuck in little branches constantly. That's a tough environment to fly in.
At this time that's not possible because the vrx doesn't support 90 fps. But the goggles being limited to 60 fps means you won't get the full benefit even if somehow the vrx does work with the camera.
Fantastic flying and review, Joshua!!! 😃 But you know what? I hope some day I can suck at flying like you say you do. 😬 Anyway, stay safe there with your family! 🖖😊
There was a reason I was waiting for your experience input. Yeah before you were like “big deal” but seeing your expression, lol that says a lot. You had me at “DID I STUTTER” 😂 👍
In basic terms framerate is not latency. If you have 90fps but but it takes a whole minute to process a single frame, you won't be able to fly. Sure the gap between frames is smaller but the whole system is a minute behind making it unflyable. It's the same problem videogame streaming services like on live or stadia face, it seems like HDZ has a pretty good system to solve this problem
Yeah but it doesn't take a minute to process a single frame. HDZero pipeline latency is like 3 ms. Also don't forget that the faster framerate requires faster display time. At 30 fps, it takes 33 ms to draw one frame. At 60 fps it takes 16 ms. At 90 fps it takes 11 ms. So the higher the framerate, the lower the glass-to-glass latency.
@@JoshuaBardwell Exactly. I also wonder if over time we'll see techniques that are used in VR for FPV to get a better sense of the quad's motion as in reproject the image you're seing by shifting/rotating it according to latest gyro read/prediction that can be sent at the end of frame reception. Sort of like Asynchroneus timewarp for FPV but not for head rotation but for quad rotation.
@@JoshuaBardwell I should have been more clear, I was more trying to say that's why it should feel smoothr than DJI, I was using a minute as a fairly extreme example. DJI does 100fps or more I think? But then the latency in the processing means while the frames are drawn 10ms apart they are drawn a lot longer after they were captured than with HDZ, resulting in HDZ feeling smoother. I would also guess none-variable latency makes it feel better because its more consistent.
This is one of the reason why I choose hdz system and hdz goggle, however it's a bit hard to explain to anyone who ask why. This might be similar with the feeling that I've got at the first time I switch over from frsky to elrs with 500hz packet rate which cause me fly much better and more confidence. So for you who still questioning how can hdz is better than any other digital system, it's hard to explain with words and you must try it by your self. The fpv video record might not be as best as the other digital system have but the fpv image is very good when you see it with your own eyes on a high quality oled monitor fpv such a hdz goggle had.
Awesome to hear and see your feedback on this new camera. You got me excited to give it a try. Hopefully it won't be sold out lol 😅 Also I have been told that the Runcam HDZero Micro v2 has a slightly better image due to the sensor being a tad larger. Would love to see some comparisons and your thoughts. 🤟
Sounds neat, and I would love to try it, but DAMN, that sparkle when flying at such close range is just a nogo for me. I hate flying through analog static, and this to me looks so much worse. I would love to try it and feel that special sauce, but I don't have the budget to do so, and there isn't any FPV community at all around me that I know of. I also suck so bad I would be embarrassed to join one anyway, unless they were also really noobs, and noobs would not have that kind of specialized gear either.
The eye is actually very low resolution. The brain does all the processing. So it makes sense that smoother video with minimal delay would reduce the brain effort required to see and react as though we were actually in the aircraft.
FPV sales are going to hit the roof because people are going to crash so much more because of the 90 fps smooth butter video ... I am guessing that is good for the retailers but tough on our pockets ... Good review.
would have been cool to see you try those things on other systems too to really drive home the difference and prove to the audience that the argument is valid. you do a wonderful job as always though.

Great Video Josh. to your point...is HDZero 960x720@60 better than Analog for detail and seeing the branches??
The 90fps camera really is that good. I regret only getting 3 of them now and I ordered more but have no idea when they will arrive. That is, in my opinion, the biggest downside of the system right now: hardware availability and waiting for an unknown amount of time to receive it. We in the US have been spoiled by the super fast shipping of RDQ and Pyro.
Good lord, that's the most intricate SCAM comment thread I've ever seen!!
@@willpowerfpv3246 gonna be hell trying to report those to youtube, seen them a couple of times, nowhere near as often of the textonotherplatform scams though.
@@willpowerfpv3246 Haha..I was reading those and thinking..wtf is going on here.. seriously created a bunch of dummy youtube accounts to put a bunch of them in some random review video? A few months ago, I was looking for a new folding camping chair to take flying, and one morning, before I had any coffee, I saw the deal that was too good to pass up on a Facebook ad. 🙃
I'm usually hyper skeptical and critical, but that rouse was so elaborate, it didn't click immediately. 🥴🫠
This one is rife with red flags. 😅
The camera setup thing via radio, is that only a hdzero thing?
i love your new shed (orange)
I maidened my Five33 Lightswitch with 90 fps camera less then 24 hours ago. All I can say, once you see 90fps at 15ms latency, it's hard going back to 60fps. And not to mention, plug the goggle to PC running drone sim and run it at 720p@100Hz, is just unreal.
I bet mr steele will love this system for his freestyle quads
Non vedo l'ora di provarla, fra pochi giorni arriverà la mia cam 90 fps.😁😁😁
Darn! You and James made me buy a pair.
Thanks for giving us the temperature in Centigrade 🇬🇧👍
Joshua, you superhero!!!
i tend to think this is real. more coherent image is a subtle thing when it comes to fpv, its nowhere near as good as the naked human eye, but every step towards the eyes natural ability will give a serious boost to the feel and coherence of the image. resulting in, better confidence.
Love this ty! Need to get flying again!
I have bought 3 90 fps cameras for this years racing season! Looks like it was a good buy!! Awesome video JB worth’s the subscription😁👍
Hi JB, nice video again! What stick ends are those?
Hi Joshua, happy to see this. I have Preordered the Race Bundle can`t wait to hold it in my hands, I have a Question i fly R-XSRs in all my quadt till now. And some years ago it was a feelable Latency step binding those with 8Ch against 16Ch mode.
What RC Link do you have Used for this Flights and is there a noticeable better feeling if you do the same quad with 500Hz Elrs? Finger to eye Latency should be the best with this combination.
definitly switch to ELRS 500Hz or 1000Hz. You dont need expensive stuff, but the R-XSR will Limit HDZero definitly.
I've always thought you flew sharper/better when you were mostly analogue I think you've proved it.
Is there a reason why DJI can't also just add a 540p option with their existing setup with ultra low latency?
They don't want to.
I definitely prefer HDZERO over the DJI air unit. Especially since I'm not flying through the forest or trees mostly
So cool to hear JB excited
Fatshark really jumped the shark on hdzero.
Every racing pilot is going to need hdzero to stay competitive
Question is, what does this do to your muscle memory. I would love to see you fly with this 3ms latency for a while then switch back to DJI and see what happens. Personally, I love freestyle where I have better clarity. I don't fly with a gopro, so I'm usually just going back and looking at my DVR footage. I can totally see this being the go-to platform for racing or even 65-75mm freestyle. I just can't wrap my head around this being a daily driver for someone though.
ill never forget the first time i gamed on a high refresh low latency monitor. i cant imagine how this must feel.
It’s truly great to see you get enthusiastic about HDZERO. The static and interference is still an issue for me especially from DJI but I think that half of that is people not bringing their power down to 25mW
Is HDZERO digital? Static in video looks more analog to me.
That's an awesome analog setup you got there
Take that setup to a bando or parking garage. Or anyplace you’d have big structures you’d have to punch through. Would it still be your new goto? It’s the breakup that keep my hdzero setups from going with me to the flying sessions. Now 1s whoops it’s a game changer.
100% need to try it.
Ugh, I have the Eachine 800Ds, just ordered the Skyzone Cobra Xv2. I'm wondering if I should order the HDZERO's before the hundred dollar price jump early next month.
Yes you should. This goggles does it all.
I had a similar reaction when playing on a 120-160hz CRT for the first time...
It's totally real!!
J B I JUST GOT THE REKON 4FR AND IT CAME WITH AN ENTIRE STACK NOT THE AIO FLIGHT CONTROLLER I WAS EXPECTING IS THIS A GOOD OR BAD THING????
I been messing with HD zero since before it was HD zero. Its come a long way and I really like it but I still think I would fly analog or DJI unless I was 100% sure I would not lose VTX. The breakup that HD zero has isn't forgiving enough i guess I would say. Its like oh breakup.....Snow I have snow. Maybe that would be better with more powerful VTX I don't know.
I got to try HDZero Goggles and 90fps at Ken Heron's Mindfield event. I didn’t expect I would feel anything either, wow was I wrong about that.
I play Liftoff at 144fps, and I can say that it feels much smoother than flying in real life, and I use DJI v2 goggles
Yeah exactly. People that doubt the effect should try capping a simulator at 60fpsand then raising it at 90hz or more
Thats awesome!
The nano 90 doesn’t seem to have the best image quality out of the HDZero cams but man the 90fps mode is a game changer!
What quad did you fly in this video?
Great video, love the enthusiasm! Is the Boxer officially your new daily driver?
Why are you always scolding yourself? You are a great pilot and you will became better and better! I really mean it...
What kind of range does the HDZERO have? Has it been tested? I think I will finally go digital this year and this video pretty much decides it for me.
Similar or a bit less than analog. The breakup is less at high to medium signal strength, but drops off faster at low signal strengh.
That reminds me of what I felt when I started to fly with high D.
I fly dji, the resolution really spoils you. I plan on picking up hdzero goggles in the very near future basically for hd whoops. Cause I never enjoyed a micro quad with dji for anything other than exploratory flying in canopy. I want a hd tinywhoop
🙂 thank you,
great vid!
i know I'm late to the party, but does anyone know if there is a way to put that cam on a 75mm tiny whoop?
Maybe you can upload the raw dvr files somewhere so we can download them?
Is this 90fps camera compatible with the HDZero Rx Module? Or is it only compatible with the HDZero goggles?
Please compare this with rapidfire analog video)).
Love your excitement, it's awesome!
Is there any reason to go 90fps if my HDZero setup is the HDZero VRX thru HD02 fatsharks?
At this time that's not possible because the vrx doesn't support 90 fps. But the goggles being limited to 60 fps means you won't get the full benefit even if somehow the vrx does work with the camera.
Fantastic flying and review, Joshua!!! 😃
But you know what? I hope some day I can suck at flying like you say you do. 😬
Anyway, stay safe there with your family! 🖖😊
How is the image if you fly with walksnail?
Kind of oxymoronic to say I am speechless.🤔
There was a reason I was waiting for your experience input. Yeah before you were like “big deal” but seeing your expression, lol that says a lot. You had me at “DID I STUTTER” 😂 👍
new to this .... @ 2:30 , is this actually what you are seeing in the goggles ?
Yes.
i am new to fpv. what is the number next to the propeller in the osd mean
It's the goggle fan speed.
I used the $105 credit from the goggles to order 2 of the 90fps cams. Can't wait!
AND Where did your newbee neck strap go??....LOL
...you get exited when learning something new today, as do we... nice one
FPV person of the year: Carl Zhou
Moments like this are why I fly, always a giddy moment of pure goodness
Such a shame for the lost original reaction. But great video non the less, thank you!
I'm over here trying to decide whether I buy into DJI, or do I buy my last analogue and first digital goggle in one go. I've already bought into WS VRX with an O30. Where does my money go next? DJI? HD zero with EVERYTHING ELSE?
