    We ran Claas in the 70’s and 80’s when they were sold as Fords . They were ahead of everything made in US then . More cleaning area equals cleaner grain ! Our old 642 in one field and a John Deere 6600 beside us in another field . JD had a 4 row corn header and the 642 had a 6 row corn header. We caught more grain that was cleaner with less loss all the day long !

    The AGCO/Fendt is really just one of those machines that start out great but slowly get more complex and expensive, I'd reckon that most of, if not all of it's 'futuristic appeal' was thought up on the fly by guys in suits at company conferences. The joystick is so sensitive that it could cause a major accident on the road if you don't hold it in an 'incorrect way' (clamping the bottom of the stick arm with your fingers and using your thumb or wrist to gently move the very bottom of the stick base) or have the precision of a neurosurgeon. Not to mention the terrible reliability of the AGCO/Fendt in relation to the CLAAS. I've seen and heard of guys running these CLAAS machines for decades and decades and only having to replace one or two small parts (besides obvious usual maintenance). CLAAS isn't innocent when it comes to making things complex but at least they properly test their machines and make sure they don't fall apart after two or three seasons.
    And before you get me wrong; I love both companies, I think AGCO and CLAAS have great machines on their lines and both offer great combines. I just think that CLAAS was obviously trying to create something for the farmer here and that AGCO really only wanted to make something cool but not necessarily care about it's operation.
    Feel free to add to my argument or debate my point in the comments. I'd be glad to hear from people who actually use these machines, my operation is just too small scale for these ones, haha.

    • @Matt___B
      @Matt___B 4 роки тому +4

      they dont really need to get a bigger header. somebody who wants more then 50ft just goes with honeybee or something, header really is the lowest requirement for ANY combine brand. the technology innovation that goes into those combines is their main concern (rightfully tho).
      Fendt 9300 dynaflex = 50ft = 15m
      claas convio 1380 = 45.3ft = 13.8m
      NH 3162 draper = 45ft = 13.7m
      they already have the biggest header in the market and a shared top 1 spot 'biggest combine' in the world with lexion 8900. there is no need to increase header size currently and they wont. i do want to see a bigger grain tank option on 10t tho.

    • @ITubeTooInc
      @ITubeTooInc 4 роки тому +1

      @@Matt___B The biggest header in the world is still the Australian manufacturer Midwest Fabrication's Durus Premium 18m or 60-foot draper platform. It was introduced 6 years ago all the way back in 2014 but is still the only 60-foot in 2020.
      UA-camr Mike Mitchell has just been testing a Honeybee header bigger than the 7 50-foot Honeybee headers they have been running on their 7 Fendt IDEAL 9 and 9T. He signed an NDA with Honeybee so he can show it or tell about it on UA-cam yet. But it's probably a 55- or 60-foot header. The Honeybee founder is his neighbor and friend, so that's a main reason he's one of the first to test out Honeybee prototypes.

    Technically quite an interesting comparison, fascinating machines, but greatest, biggest, highest, heaviest...
    Who needs the greatest, the heaviest, the biggest combines? What's about efficiency (tons per hour), degree of complexity (maintanance fee) and fuel economy (CO2 per bushel)? What's the eco-balance (from Exploration of the RAW materials to the waste disposal) ? Especially to answer those question, i would be interested in the comparative figure of a Gleaner S98 or New Holland CR10.90 ?
    A general question in the face of limited resources: what will the development steps for the next generation of combine harvesters look like? even bigger? even heavier? Where is the future family farm in this competition?

    Pleased don't get me wrong, i only ask questions...

    If you account for reliability, fendt is the worst. I've been running a claas Lexion 480 for 25 years now, nothing but regular maintenance and a couple of bearings and belts. We bought a fendt 8410p to run along with our claas machine, the thing doesn't have 150 hours on it and the hydro transmission failed.

    • @susanwilde81

    • @mcmo695
      @mcmo695 Рік тому

      @@susanwilde81 Really, 40 ton/hr? I think you misunderstood something ... Back in the day (1996) Claas said the 480 Lexion could do 40 ton/hr in the right circumstances. Today Deere is saying the same about its X9, they just raised the numbers to 100 ton/hr. But honestly, neither of those combines will do you a 100 ton/hr measured over a whole day. You won't even do 40 tons. The 100 tons are based on spot rates ... and there I have seen an X9 do even more than the 100, same accounts for the Claas. But one question I have: Where do you get those numbers (70 ton, 85 ton) from? Claas hasn't given out any numbers based on throughput since the 600 Lexion (wich they said it could do 65-70 tons). The only thing they told me is that the 8800/8900 would/could do roughly 15% more than the old 780.

      Depends on crop yields, header front, table or feeder house to seperation n clean area. Hp can help though heavy crop, most interesting is speed which combine can travel n these new combines are faster then class 8 combines with twin rotors. Claas would be my pick because AGCO n JD are still in early stages on improving n fixing issues with their combines. Although I haven’t had clean n change concaves in Claas. Of all these combines CaseIH is quickest change n clean down. Plus parts n servicing is strong, Claas has reasonable servicing unlike AGCO which has limited servicing, with fewer dealerships in Australia.

Deere is advertising its X9 with 100 ton/hr, but the combine will do those numbers only spotwise and if the circumstances are perfect. Most people I know running an X9 don't normally get over 75 tons (in good conditions) same with the Claas. The Ideal I don't know ... But honestly, if you take the average throughput of a whole day, neither combine will average more than 40 - 50 ton/hr, probably even less.
