One correction, as of October 2020, Concourse B Opened, a Year Early. Due to the reduction of passengers and flights due to the pandemic, Concourse B Phase 1 was able to be Completed over a year early, and the Airport has been able to Demo all of the old Airport and Concourses, saving over $300 Million Dollars.
@@jonesrmj A friend and I who flew out in October wondered why they would waste the money to build a really nice Temporary Bridge, with moving sidewalks, in connecting the New Terminal to the Old Concourses to only be used for just over 30 days. We then found out about the accelerated Concourse B completion and subsequent acceleration of Demolition, it made sense that it was built go be used for a year. Phase 2 of the New SLC will be completed in 2024. Phase 2 Includes the East Concourse A and East Concourse B.
One of the nice things about this design and I believe is included in SLC's long term master planning is if passenger numbers keep rising, they can add another satellite concourse. Many people wonder why SLC is so popular but consider that it is the major airport for a very large region and Delta has a major hub in SLC. Couple that with the large amount of tourism that flows in and out of the state, an ever increasing convention market (the local convention center, the Salt Palace, keeps expanding to keep up with demand) and the increasing presence of technology firms. Now the reason why SLC is so popular is becoming clear.
@@jonesrmj Don't forget the skiing industry, the Sundance film festival, and the Mormon missionaries. These all make up huge impact on the travel through the SLC airport.
I was in SLC in June 2011 ant I really like this experience. But this new project of SLC expansion sounds good. I really love to visit Salt Lake City once these new terminals will be finished.
I live in Utah and have flown out of the new airport several times already. This is a significant improvement in all aspects across the board. I would say the only con is cheap food options are few and far in between.
I just flew in and out of this airport from Chicago's O'Hare, and I was very impressed with the design and feel of it. I didn't want to go back to O'Hare!! I am moving to SLC soon, and one of the reasons I chose to was the "decent" airport that it was. Now it's something to brag about. Can't wait until it is finished.
Cool. The good thing about Chicago O’Hare is that it also is getting a major upgrade, and I’ve made a video on it too. I definitely agree that living near a hub airport is a great factor!
been through Salt Lake a few times glad they are expanding because they are the heart of the west every airline in the nation connects at Salt Lake and Salt Lake Center located in the main terminal building controls 200 domestic and international flights a day and it is the world headquarters of Delta and Skywest which have their offices inside the terminal.
I was in SLC when they announced the airport redesign...since I was living in the NYC area at the time, I thought the old airport was fine and better than NYC offerings for flights.
The NYC airports have consistently been ranked as the worst in the country, so even the old SLC was probably way nicer. Good thing they are rebuilding a lot of the NYC airports!
It is a nice facility, especially for transiting passengers and the airlines. It does take a lot longer for us locals to get in and out of the new airfield. With the old design, there were several entrances and exits and I was never more than 10 min from my car. Now it's 30, mostly because this new design funnels all passengers into a single entrance and exit.
That is true. I think once all airlines move into the new terminal and all of the old ones are demolished, I think that will improve the walk times since unless you are flying Delta, you have to walk to the old terminals.
I find your videos interesting but some corrections on this. The 3rd runway wasn't added during World War II but in 1955 & the breakdown of the 3 airlines you mention (WA, UA, FL) is correct at 42 but that was weekday departures & not weekly as you said. That is according to the 1957 OAG, again well after the war. Also, Western started the hub status at SLC many years later, just after the Airline Deregulation Act of 1978.

Oh you are right. I think I was referring to when they expand both concourses! Thanks for the catch!

Yup. Thanks for watching!
Never knew Salt Lake City been that popular
It's not necessarily a hugely populated area, but it is one of the fastest growing cities in the US. Thanks for watching! :)
It' becuase the Airport is a Hub for Delta airlines.
Then there's the Ski Industry, the National Parks, and the 2002 Olympic Winter Games, etc.

It definitely looks like a nice airport! Thanks for watching!
That headhouse looks incredibly small. I feel like funneling people through one small headhouse will only add to the congestion problem.
I live in Utah and have flown out of the new airport several times already. This is a significant improvement in all aspects across the board. I would say the only con is cheap food options are few and far in between.
Im sure that will improve as air travel continues to recover from the pandemic! Thanks for watching!

Yeah, the expansion is nice!
No, the world headquarters for delta is Atlanta
The only times I ever visited SLC were connecting on Delta. But I like shiny and new stuff so I might have to check it out some time
The new SLC does look very nice! Thanks for watching!
The long walk times suck with the new airport still
You should make a video about the cancelled Westside Terminal at DFW if you haven’t already.

had a connection through the airport, was super crowded, but still felt like there enough room.

Slc Did you need a new airport With all the passengers go there daily and With the international rising you’re definitely more terminal space
