Chorus:
Whoa
Tie a yellow ribbon 'round the ole oak tree
It's been three long years
Do ya still want me (still want me)
If I don't see a ribbon 'round the ole oak tree
I'll stay on the bus
Forget about us
Put the blame on me
If I don't see a yellow ribbon 'round the ole oak tree

My best memories are from 1969 to 1980.... I'm now 78 and look back with NO REGRETS. ✌🍷🚬😊
The full lyrics:
I'm comin' home, I've done my time
Now I've got to know what is and isn't mine
If you received my letter telling you I'd soon be free
Then you'll know just what to do if you still want me
If you still want me
Whoa, tie a yellow ribbon 'round the ole oak tree
It's been three long years, do you still want me? (still want me)
If I don't see a ribbon 'round the ole oak tree
I'll stay on the bus, forget about us, put the blame on me
If I don't see a yellow ribbon 'round the ole oak tree
Bus driver, please look for me
'Cause I couldn't bear to see what I might see
I'm really still in prison and my love, she holds the key
A simple yellow ribbon's what I need to set me free
I wrote and told her please
Whoa, tie a yellow ribbon 'round the ole oak tree
It's been three long years, do you still want me? (still want me)
If I don't see a ribbon 'round the ole oak tree
I'll stay on the bus, forget about us, put the blame on me
If I don't see a yellow ribbon 'round the ole oak tree
Now the whole damn bus is cheerin' and I can't believe I see
A hundred yellow ribbons 'round the ole oak tree
I'm comin' home, umm-hmm
(Tie a ribbon 'round the ole oak tree)
(Tie a ribbon 'round the ole oak tree)
(Tie a ribbon 'round the ole oak tree)
(Tie a ribbon 'round the ole oak tree)
(Tie a ribbon 'round the ole oak tree)
(Tie a ribbon 'round the ole oak tree)
(Tie a ribbon 'round the ole oak tree)
(Tie a ribbon 'round the ole oak tree)
The #1 song on the Billboard Hot 100 for 1973 ;-)
Who's still listening here with me this year 2024?
I am and will forever more!!!
That’s kind of music that makes me smile and feel like a butterfly 🦋
Me
Me too. This music was on the radio in the early 70s when i was a very little kid going to the river with my parents. Have distinct memories of this stuff
Misty eyes listening to this.
This was the biggest hit of 1973 and one of the biggest of all time. (In 2018, Billboard ranked it the 46th biggest hit ever.) The instrumentation was retro upon its release, and within ten years, the track sounded corny and dated, an item of ironic nostalgia. Yet, 50 years later, there's no denying this unforgettable ditty's sweet charm.
But remember it had a revival during the Iran hostage crisis in 1980.
William this is a timeless record indeed!
Rightly said!
I was 10 at the time. 1973 had some of the gentlest music of that era. This song came out before the death of Bruce Lee and before the oil embargo.
Whenever I hear it reminds me of childhood in 70s and simple fun times! 😞
I was a teenager when this came out. Today as an old man I say what beautiful time we had then.
Me too....and as an old lady I say what a beautiful time we had then, also. No doubt, those were the good ol days, how I miss them!

Haha...I was 9..old man..our whole family loved this stuff!
This was my mother's favourite song. I lost her at 13 but I will never forget the memories made with her. I miss listening to the songs she loved and watching the films she adored (Grease in particular). But most of all I miss her mere presence and hearing her voice. I'm 23 now but will never ever let a day pass by where I don't have her in my thoughts. Love you mum
You never forget
🕊
BLESS HER WONDERFUL HEART!! xxx
As long as you remember/talk-about your Mom, she'll still be around.

The cure of Corona virus.. keep calm and listen to old songs..
Call it a blessing! LOL
The dawn of corona virus. The world falls into chaos while a lonely wanderer with nothing, but a book bag filled with basic necessities to the brim, and their headphones walks through a chaotic city with people fighting, the wanderer is calm and happy and while the people tear themselves to bits for the last of the resources in the declining economy this song plays in the background.

rodrigo alejandro perez garcia Hey stay safe man! I’m from Dominican Republic 🇩🇴 Living in USA
I danced to this song back in 1973. I was only 11 back then and am still dancing in 2021. I am 58 years now and am loving it so much more....I wish I could live forever.
God bless. I hope you do!
You will live forever. There is no peace. We just have to hope we don’t come back as a prey animal always on the lookout for that creature that is going to eat us 🤣 I believe in reincarnation but it has nothing to do with a soul jumping out and entering a new body. I just think something comes alive and experiences that life like you are yours at the moment. You was nothing before but you was if you can get your head around that. Like I said there is no peace and something will get born somewhere in the universe and will live. Think about it as it is a mind bender.
Cool, I wish I was born back then, don't like today's music it sucks. 😕 ☹

My Dad used play this song so much when we would go to church or pick up my grandparents. Such a nice song. Didn't understand lyrics til I got older. But sometimes it's the memory of where you were at the time the song was played rather then the lyrics meaning. Rip my loving father who worked so hard to raise 6 kids. Old music is from the WW II era. Kids today are so cute.
It is old. I am old and I like it. I did not at age 16; it was too cheesy. Now it is sweet and so many people over the years have made it their meaning (I got told off for disrespecting military personnel because I understood the original meaning: some guy who had been in prison, welcomed home by the faithful girlfriend: nothing to do with the military..
