The relic will be effective with the next treasure map. Giving *5 rewards on some chests.
I agree with you that we must not rush that, but in the specific case of the relic, it won't give more rewards with boss killing.

I would say if you play +2 years you can have reserves for most of items if you are planning and careful with resources
