You can send it back and get the nib exchanged for a broad at no cost aside from the shipping. I would let them know about the alignment and performance issues as well. It shouldn't have come the way it did, but in my experience they'll make it right for you.
I bought a decapod from the same retailer with fine soft nib that performs perfectly. Sorry to hear that you had a problem with nib. The M800 that I also bought from the same retailer is also perfect.
Nice review. I've always liked the Pelikan M800; I have two of these. I am interested in getting a Piccolo and I'm not sure about whether it will be as comfortable to use as the M800, mainly because of the length. There is a considerable differences in the length, which is something I am also considering. Another is the grip section; are they similar in diameter? Thank you.
Disappointing about the tines. I had the same issue from the same retailer, though mine was a much lower cost pen. As for the adjusting: how do I know how I want it adjusted until I write with it?
I believe that you can request to have the pens just shipped as is. I'm sure they wouldn't mind as it's less labor for the same price. But it is used as a selling point, although these days I feel like its more of a gimmick than something that's truly value added. Plus I have my doubts on if they actually do much checking. On the other hand I've never really be really impressed with work from most nibmeisters.
Hi, very nice video. I just got the same fp from Nakaya in Japan. I very like the fp ith M size nib and metal thread, with beautiful finish, nice size and excellent nib performance. One question. Does your nib show the circle with the word Nakata or Nakaya. I know Nakata is the last name of the founder but I have seen on the internet different models with the nib showing the word Nakata but mine pen shows the word Nakaya. I guess it is a recent change. What do you think? Thanks.
This pen falls in range of being too expensive to be anything but perfection on arrival. Personally I woudln't care about waiting time, exclusivity or any other excuse, it's a _pen_ which costs $1,000+. Urushi is pretty and their nibs look great, but misalignment and mismatching finial is just too much. Not to mention getting a cartridge converter in that price range, instead of better and more robust mechanism.
Thank you for responding my inquiry. I enjoy your videos very much, a different look and feel to the boring "what I like, what I don't like". Keep it up although maybe a bit shorter in length 😉
Don't really have much of a follow up. Soon after the video, I bought a Platinum Century in Chartres Blue with a broad nib and swapped the nibs on the pens. It's been filled ever since and has had a pretty permanent home in the pen case I keep in my bag. Pen is holding up fine although I baby it more than any of my other pens just because I feel like I want to take care of the beautiful urushi lacquer while I don't care as much about beating up plastics like on Pelikans.
I apologize that my life doesn't revolve around my youtube channel. To answer your original question, my nib came labeled with the Nakaya name. In the past they were labeled with the family name of Nakata but they switched to the current nib a few years ago.

Thank you. A beautiful pen despite the tines.

Great review of a great pen :D keep up the excellent work!
Very disappointing on the "tuned by john mottishaw", i may stay away from his pens for now until i hear good things about him
Very unfortunate to have a brand new pen with misaligned tines. I would not be happy. Very beautiful pen however.
Have you reviewed the Lamy 2000 fountain pen?
Dude don't you answer inquiries?
