Danelectro are unique in looks and sound: Tele/ Gretsch sounding, their own style.

Neither Tele neither Gretsch, lipstick pickup sound very unique as nothing else…

Great sound! I recently bought a red "The Stock" DC59 mainly because I have a bad back and these masonite guitars weigh basically nothing.
Not to mention they can take a thrashing!
My rig's a tubescreamer running into an overdriven orange micro dark head. The stock 59 Dano comes as standard with 500K pots and a treble bleed cap & resistor mod on the volume (IE it can be very bright sounding with distortion). But, if I roll the tone control back to about 50% and use the tubescreamer to hit the preamp harder and tighten up the low end: suprisingly, it's actually pretty good for playing hard rock & metal \m/
The only mod I've done is to properly shield the entire scratchplate with copper, other than that the stock electronics work perfectly.

Wicked playing mate. I’ve scooped a few of their pedals and they are superb as well.

In 1962 my father came home from his local watering hole, The Flame Room, with a 57 Dan abd a little Dan amp. He had wind it in a pool game. Of the 6 kids in the house, I was the one that picked it up and learned to play. In 1976 my new wife and I moved from Southern California to Oklahoma and somehow it disappeared. I loved that guitar. What a work. Horse! Since then I’ve owned many guitars but I’ve never missed one like I miss that one!
This guy you have playing in is. This video is awesome@

I lived with Danos my entire life. So happy they returned and so much better. Pedals, guitars, all great. Too bad they couldn't find someone that can actually play....🤪

I picked up a '58 U1 back in the 1970s for 20 or 25 bucks. As a bass player, I didn't need a Tele or an LP Junior - which I could have found cheap back in the day. This single lipstick tube Danno has proved to be its own unique little beast! Yes, I still have it and love it to bits. It's the best playing guitar I've ever played - I know, - that's a big claim! When the brand made a comeback in the 90s, I was hoping they'd adhere to the goodness that Nathan Daniels established and it looks like they have 😃

Great video, loved hearing some of the Danelectro history. I have the 66-12 twelve string in Limo Black, the D56 Baritone in Black Metalflake, and recently acquired a ‘59M NOS+ in Baby Come Back Blue. The 66-12 rivals the sound of a Ricky for a third of the price, the Baritone has that sparkly, shimmering tone right out if a spaghetti western and the ‘59 NOS has a spanky, sparkly tone all it’s own which is why I bought it. It doesn’t sound like any of my other guitars (Strat, LP, Rickenbacker, Telecaster, Gretsch) it honestly is that unique.

I have a '96 reissue of the '56 U2. I've had it since 1998, last month, one of the tuners stripped out. I ordered some Gerbers with the same screw pattern to replace them. I think those tuners are probably the Danelectro's Achille's Heal; otherwise, damn fine guitars, and very underrated.

I've heard that the old Danelectro made Silvertone 1448, 1449 and 1457 models (or probably the now discontinued Danelectro 63) sound like "tight cardboard." Similarly, I think they have a little bit of a rubber band guitar sound to them. It's surprising how they do that: the bridge and tailpiece area of these is a block of plywood that's literally supported only by the front and back of the guitar, and the front and back are thin Masonite, holding the tailpiece block. I bought a guitar plan to build one of them, and I was wondering how the front and back could manage to support string tension.
Also, the Dano 64 model is based on a Mosrite Ventures Model. The 66 model is based on a Mosrite Combo Model. Both these Danos are smaller than a Mosrite, though. Mosrite's another odd company, but they're not being sold widely anymore (outside Japan, anyway, where they got a huge following because of The Ventures.)

I had a Silvertone with tele style headstock 67 68 A friend painted it Flag colors and in the band I had a echoplex and we would finish with psychedelic tones. Only used it on one song because the bridge and tuners were not good, but it was cool

Its going back aways but the Travlin Wiburys also used Danelectro guitar and bass on a few songs back in the 90's.
Oh, and Nate Daniels sold the company in 1969 for $6 million USD, not English Pounds. That would have been more than 30 million USD around that time.
The guitars continue to sell because they are fun to play and have their own unique sound and look.
