Hi Jo: I chance upon your video (The Spider) while randomly scrolling some Facebook postings. Then I linked over to your other videos about birds, etc. Your presentation is most charming and the footages are beautiful and lively. It brings nature to our heart and soul. It is a good dose of tonic for us poor ‘urban-zoo’ inhabitants. Thank you for your wonderful work.
I love flight birds - especially the small to medium sized. They are so animated and adorable!!!! So dainty and delicate. God bless these beautiful creatures 😍😍❤️❤️😍😍😍😍😍
This is just like one of those videos our teachers used to put on in middle school or high school and no one minded some nice visual videos with narrating. Really cool!!!
I especially get that because I am a retired high school English teacher. (Except when I showed my students movies, I wasn’t narrating them myself.) Thanks for the praise and for taking time to comment.
+Loren Abramson Ah, you're a Mozart fan the, Loren. The music is Figaro from the The Barber of Seville. The narration is plain old St.Louis, but I'm glad to hear you like it. Thanks for commenting.
I am a new subscriber and oh my gosh I am in love with these videos your voice and the background music is out of this world and thanks for doing such an incredible job👍
These movies are a labor of love for me, so I'm happy when someobody tells me, as you just did, that they love the videos. Thank you for letting me know and enjoy all 200 of them.
I love the video and the information. Love seeing the birds up close and hearing your great narration. Chrissy McClarren's mom, Rose McClarren. Ps Thanks for all you hard work. I do appreciate all you do for our pleasure.
Anytime you comment, Rose, I know who is writing. I remember meeting you at our house a year or so ago. And I do appreciate it that you write me and tell me how much you enjoy my films. Thank you. Jo
I hadn't rewatched this movie in a couple of years, Mary, and your compliment prompted me to do that. Not bad, if I do say so myself. 😉 Thanks for your hearty praise.
Very cute. I would theorize that considering they don't actually wash their entire bodies (slow motion highlights this, that they primarily only wash their undersides and their head), I would guess they wash away excess oil, which due to gravity, would accumulate on their undersides and on their head during preening.
Sounds like you've watched plenty of birds bathing, and you've enjoyed it enough to give thought to why and how they do it. Your theory might well be true. I wish we could ask the birds.
Birds love water because THAT'S their home! "And God said, Let the waters bring forth abundantly the moving creature that hath life, and fowl that may fly above the earth in the open firmament of heaven." Genesis 1:20! 💓
WONDERFUL VIDEO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Chrissy and I love learning more about the birds this way, thanks to you. We were just wondering about birds and bathing and water today as we've been inundated with rain. I wondered if they could ever get TOO wet. I mean, after they bath, they dry off as quickly and as vigorously as they bathe. Therefore, I wondered if all this rain was having adverse affects on the birds. What do you think, Jo?
+Andrew Reago I think I'd like to know the answer, Andy, because I was wondering the same thing as I went to bed last night and thought about where the birds might be huddling for a night's sleep in this weather. In researching the subject of bathing, I didn't run across any info about this question. I guess it depends on the species. Connie pointed out that Cormorants, who don't have much oil, MUST dry off but ducks never need to. Anyway, thanks for praising the film, and I appreciate the question even though I can't answer it.
Thank you for doing these videos! They are great and we enjoy adding them to our bird study in our homeschool. We are learning a lot.
Never realized just how important bird bathing is. Great video! As always I enjoy your informative work.
Watching the energy birds put into a bath is so much fun. I think I'll make a short about this.

I'm glad you enjoyed it, Pamela. I loved making it because I got to watch birds bathing so many times.
Great film and info as always Jo. Love "dandelionish" - it's true!

+quoteny Thanks, as always, Cathy, for watching and commenting.Yeah, those bristly looking wet Goldfinches are cute, aren't they?
_Exactly_ what I hoped for when I googled "Why do birds bathe?"
And your comment is exactly what I enjoy hearing, Jeremy.
love the northern flicker and always love these videos jo
+joe squat Thanks, Joe. The Flicker shot was so short that I almost didn't put it in, but--like you--I just love seeing them.
Thanks...very nice, great info!🕊👍🥰

do you have any videos about birds sunbathing?
Sorry, Adam, but I don't.
Her voice reminds me of Herbert from Family Guy
Thanks?
It's the only video
Next video, why do they bathe in dust?
I would, but I'd never find them doing it often enough to get the footage. It's to get rid of mites and other pests, so I've heard.
@@JoAlwoodBIRDSANDTHENSOME Okay, thank you. I saw a video of some chickens and what they do it; parasites, mites, and that.
Thankyou
My pleasure. I also have one about why birds, preen, in case that interests you.
