  • This video is a video merge of 4 views of Horsham West Sussex
(including The Michell Arms/Rice Brothers/Malt Shovel, Denne Road, and the Carfax) these are from pictures people have submitted to the Memories of Horsham Facebook page...
I've then taken as close to identical modern pictures as I can manage, and then composited them up in a video editor showing a merge from Then to now and back again. (This video has no sound)
The copyright of the old images is unknown, but if it is found that they are under copyright let me know and I will remove them.
    Enjoy...
(Remember to watch in HD if you can)

Very well put together. I can only imagine how difficult that was to align all those images.

Great work. I've lived in Horsham 10 years now right by the malt shovel and I used to come to Horsham all the time in 80s and 90s. Great to see this

This is great.. Shame buildings are removed for wider road junctions but the nice looking old pub was completely saved and is now shown in it's 'glory'. Interestingly also old style fancy lantern street lamps and sand stone walls are shown in Horsham now but not in the past! I do like visiting this nice town. I look forward to seeing part 2 of Horsham then and now!

Glad to see that someone else has noticed the huge increase in street clutter since the '50s, as noted in this video. The result of the 1964 Traffic In Towns report, 1980 Transport Act, 1988 Road Traffic Act etc. Britain's streets have effectively been destroyed by this concrete nightmare. Write to your MPs and demand change.

Every single redevelopment since the 1960s in Horsham has been based around the bloody motorcar. The final stage being from 1988-93 when half of Park street and the church were bulldozed in order to pump more cars through the town.

The A281 was the absolute worst. Bulldozed several great buildings, made a very large part of the main town next to it a giant car park, bulldozed a historic church, leaving only the tower and replacing it with a giant office bridge, and split Horsham in half. I yearn for a day when we revert the A281’s destruction and not turn it into some green space or giant pedestrian area, but an actual, proper part of town.
