Info below from National Geographic
Dolichorhynchops was a short-necked plesiosaur that lived from the Late Cretaceous (early Turonian to late Campanian stage) of North America.
they used their long, paddle-like flippers to fly through the water like a penguin. The marine reptiles were quick and agile underwater acrobats, with large eyes well adapted to spying small prey. Long, narrow jaws filled with 30 to 40 sharp teeth in a single row allowed Dolichorhynchops to grab its prey but not cut it. Instead, the captured fish were swallowed whole.
Dolichorhynchops grew 12 to 15 feet (4 to 5 meters) long and was probably covered in smooth skin. Its winglike paddles were constructed of almost a hundred tightly packed bones, making them too stiff for use on land but excellent for swimming fast. Though the creatures may have been able to dive deeply in search of prey, the need to breathe air meant most of their time was spent near the water's surface.
The short-necked plesiosaur likely had few enemies, but those that attacked were some of the fiercest monsters of the seas, including sharks with razor-sharp teeth and the giant mosasaur Tylosaurus. One famous Tylosaurus fossil contains the remains of a juvenile Dolichorhynchops inside. And Dolichorhynchops fossils have been found with unborn babies inside, strong evidence they gave birth to live young.

Ooh, nice! I like how you captured the underwater flying aspect; for critique, I'd recommend bigger pectoral fin movements? There's some very nice scientific simulations on how they looked IRL that would benefit a lot from being combined with a skilled animator on a realistically-moving animal. ua-cam.com/video/xWc3VPh9DFE/v-deo.html
Anyway, fun fact about the Dolichorhynchops- these animals probably had intense parental care, just like modern whales and dolphins. Baby plesiosaurs had weak, high-cartilage bones despite being born extremely large. One plesiosaur fetus of a similar genus was found at 1.5m long, and suspected to be ready for birth at almost 2m, when the mother was only 4.7m long! The babies likely remained with their mother in the open ocean after birth, needing a lot of care and attention to survive. Maybe they fed their babies by vomiting up food?
hello thanks for the info and feedback
oookkk.
Can we please all come together and make a petition to help him get enough funds to make a full out animated documentary or something featuring these animations! These are so great as always! Keep it up Julian^^
i would sign that petition
Agreed
hello thank you ❤️❤️❤️❤️
@@johnsonmortimer you’re very welcome. Just keep doing what your doing 🦖👍🏻
Julian Johnson-mortimer your work is just amazing!
Loved the work Julian. I was taken aback by the scene where they are swimming close to the surface and how you manage to mingle the actual sound of the waves. Felt so real
thanks the music was made for the shot i mentioned to Mika it might be good for the music to go quiet in the middle shot and the waves sounds come in for a little bit. i am pleased you liked it !
Dolichorhynchops: * enjoys life whimsically *
Tylosaurus: I'ma about end this plesiosaur's whole career.
👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻
Hipply hopply your brother is now my property ( a prehistoric adventure reference)

👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻
I just love this so much keep up the good work 😁👍
Thank you! Will try 👍🏻👍🏻😀
nice work on the model and animation as always, although for critique I would suggest trying to match the opacity of the water for a more realistic look? as in the animals are jarringly too high definition when compared to objects which are murkier at the same distance
ok thank you 👍🏻👍🏻
They look kind of like scaly penguin like this.
👍🏻👍🏻😀
Now I want to see these things in a “Jurassic” film!
thx 👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻
These things are the dolphins of the cretaceous.
hello thx xaven 👍🏻😀
@@johnsonmortimer What's your favorite prehistoric creature.
0:29 can't get enough of that POV shot hmmmmm
thanks i realy like that shot also, wish i had made that one longer now. 👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻😀
@@johnsonmortimer I know you've heard this in many occasions, but it really makes it look/feel realistic which is the best aspect of your work! If it isn't much to be bothered I'd love to see angles like this more from your videos!

👍👍👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻💖
thanks again 👍🏻👍🏻😀
was the dolichorhynchops related to the short necked pliosaurs or was it was a plesiosaur?
hello Dolichorhynchops is an extinct genus of polycotylid plesiosaur from the Late Cretaceous
@@johnsonmortimer thank you!!! this was a question that’s been on my mind since the sea monsters digital game on ps2
👍👍👍👍👍
That’s amazing beautiful and wonderful I wish we can put this as if vacation right 😉😎😇💰🍾🥂💵👍🏻🌟✨
thank you Caden !!
@@johnsonmortimer you’re welcome 😉😎😎🥂🍾💵👍🏻💰✨

hello sorry i can't give a date ;-( . hopefully later this year

👍🏻😀
Love it
great thx 👍🏻😀❤️
The Dollies are so beautiful and I wished these animals were still around.
yes ;-(
Was waiting for this just didn't expect it because it's a underrated animal
So coop
Cool
I highly agree that dollies are underrated, same goes for a lot of prehistoric marine creatures like ichthyosaurs and basilosaurus
thank you i thought they deserved their own little animation.
@@johnsonmortimer :D
They remind me of dolphins with their playful nature in this animation, and their name
@@johnsonmortimer someday you will make an animation of the liopleurodon?
These videos are kinda relaxing, it feels like an asmr lmao I love it
Glad you like them thank you
oooook.
Nice and super cool work !
Where can i contact to you ?

The music makes the Dolichorhynchops seem majestic
thank you the dude who made the music will be pleased 👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻
@@johnsonmortimer your welcome
Cause it is magestic.
Ah yes, Dolichorhynchops, one of my favorite Plesiosaurs! Incredible work as always man!
I also want to thank you for making the Dolichorhynchops and other creatures you've made for Sea Monsters: a Prehistoric Adventure. The models for them are amazing! If it weren't for that documentary, I wouldn't be into paleontology today.
Glad you like them! thanks very much for your kind words.
I bet in like a couple of years your animation skills will get overpowered and it will look so realistic that we will think its real life great work too its so cool
thanks !! 😊❤️
Amazing, it makes me want to watch Sea Monsters the drama documentary about prehistoric sea creatures. I was looking for one of them to have had a scar in their back fin from the shark attack. great job, truely.
hello thank you 👍🏻😊❤️
dude ( is it ok to call u dude) these videos rock I love them.
yes you can call me the dino dude 👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻😀 thx
I love the style in which this was done, particularly the music. Full of ambition and optimism to go with an active reptile.
Love your work, keep it up!
Awesome, thank you! 🦖🦕❤️
WOOOOW!!
Never realized how their Back-flippers are the same size as their Front-flippers!!
SO BIG!! ✨
thanks ❤️❤️
This dude is actually insane, awesome
hello thank you !! 👍🏻👍🏻😀
One of the things that I want to do in my life is to see dinosaurs alive. This is so realistic!!!
thank you !! 👍🏻😀❤️
Really enjoy these. I would love to see them actually hunt and catch something.
ok 👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻
I just love the way you make all these animals look so majestic and cool. Every time I watch your animations it feels like I’m actually looking at a living, breathing creature. Chills
wow thanks great to hear !! ❤️❤️❤️
I feel like I can reach through my screen and pet them, amazing animation!
thats great thx !! 👍🏻😀
Are you going to make that animation on the carnotaurus I really wanna see it :)
yes !! but i can't say when sorry
Ok, I’m totally serious here-if we all look into it, I’m sure someone has a channel to someone at discovery ch, animal planet, science ch, BBC, or somewhere that produces dino programming!!! We need to get someone from one or more of the channels to at least look at all of his work, and if they do, I can’t imagine they wouldn’t all be happy to contact him about either working ON something, or just working FOR them in general, and not only does HE deserve to have that opportunity if he wants it, but WE deserve to get see entire shows of his animation, especially if we help him get discovered(if he hasn’t ALREADY been!) lol!
hello thanks for your kind words Andrew, i am easy to get hold off if they ever want to contact me with something 👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻😀 i am only one person so can only do so much doing a whole doc would need a small team ❤️
Those magnificent creatures with those types of music makes it even cuter!
hello thank you
Sorry I haven’t been watching you channel in a hard minute! That animation is so crisp and real looking!
hello thank you 👍🏻😀
Gotta love the Dinos and the Music 🎶👌
thank you !! 👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻

Makes me wish I could go back in time and see it for real, but since we can’t this suffices nicely. Truly wondrous all the different types of life that currently exists and once existed on Earth.
hello thanks very much !
Man.... you make me wish I owned a movie studio so I could hire you to make several movies about dinos....
😊❤️😊❤️😊❤️
The Dolichorhynchops look almost like the ones from Sea Monsters: A Prehistoric Adventure.
hello i worked on that show 👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻 this is a more updated version. i have worked on the Dolichorhynchops for 3 different doc's they all end up looking pretty much the same as they usually use the same experts for feedback.
Good video. Lovely music, lovely Dolichorhynchops family, awesome animations. 👍
Thank you very much 👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻😀
You should work at jurassic world
They need makers like you
thank you 👍🏻👍🏻😀❤️
Awesome, what is your Production Pipeline? Are you using open source or the classic software (Auttodesk..Maxon....)? Are you modelling yourself? Really very well done !
hello chris, i use Autodesk Maya . i make the creatures and the whole shot, apart from the music which is made by mika. i usually use real backgrounds as i don't have much render power for a full cg env. i hope to get into doing some real time shots
@@johnsonmortimer Yes i could imagine that Unreal would be a good choice for you to create some realtime scenes that could be interactive like an experience. VR would be awesome too if people could examine your Dinos in real World Scale with some sounds...cheers
@@chriswatts3697 yes i having been looking at unreal it seems like a good time to start doing something with it as the render quality is looking pretty good
fading of light is terrifying and water surface shadows too and wikipedia won't describe this good and it won't be on wikipedia
thank you 👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻😀😀
These dudes remind of Ichthyosaurus from Walking With Dinosaurs 🤩
coool thanks 👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻
Absolutely love the work you do on these animations. Especially the marine reptiles and other sea creatures .
hello thanks steven 👍🏻👍🏻😊
I have always liked marine dinosaurs , the behavior of these dinosaurs is very similar to that of a dolphin.
thx again !
@@johnsonmortimer You're welcome Julian. 🌟
Hey, giving you a heads up I saw some of your work posted on Steam in the Ark art section. They didn't give you credit for it. The design is definitely the same.
Thanks for the info! 👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻
Kronosaurus! I'm looking to get a model of one and would like to use these sort of animations between scenes.
your welcome to use some if my models on my stetchfab but sorry no krono sketchfab.com/FreddyFoxFreddy
Hear me out
You could do a close up of a sinornithosaurus and even get a good look of the teeth and venom dripping from it.
I think it'd be hard but awesome
Cool idea 👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻
I dont know what to Say. Wow! Can you make a Allosaurus animation?plis. Cheers! :)
hello yes i hope to make one but not sure when sorry
I want to be amazing like you you are really cool
hello thanks very much !! 🦖🦕
I’m so sad I just found this bc it came out in the middle of the night 😕again just like and forever AMAZING ! KEEP UP THE PERFECT WORK! No seriously this is perfect I see no flaws at all you have reached literal perfection on your animations! I see no glitches no visual bugs nothing without shadows. You. Are. Making. Perfection. And If you do believe something is wrong with the animations and fix them with the next, it will become a word even greater than perfection. Bye for now, i cannot wait for the next animation!
hello thanks very much for your kind comments spino 🦖🦕❤️🦖🦕❤️
@@johnsonmortimer np just giving credit where credit is due
Tremendous! The only extra touch of realism I would have added is at least one of them letting out a modest little flurry of poo.
hello thank you !! 👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻😀
Ngl this is downright wholesome and its kinda like disney and I know other people said it but its true. Great work keep it up.
Wow, thanks
Oh my goodness what a magnificent and beautiful creatures 👍😍
hello thanks for watching glad you liked it 👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻😊
How are you make this awesome animations?
hello its animated and rendered in a 3d animation program called autodesk maya. its used on alot of films and animation for games
Man at this point you really need to make some kind of documentary - because these are so good!
thank you ❤️
You make me feel like I am scuba diving with them....magnificent.
thank you !! 😀😀
You should do animations specially for baby dinosaurs with their families
yes it fun to make baby ones 👍🏻👍🏻😀
so beautiful
Thank you! 😊
So superb work , BBC must hire you you are really superb talent wow
hello thanks again !!
Is that that species that lives in the rivers of Africa?
My video “Cretaceous Africa” has that species called “polycotilid” or something, that is probably in the same Familie group like this one
hello sorry i am not sure i think they mostly lived around coast lines but possible they also lived in river
dolichorhynchops are natures very own dolphins 82 MYA
