Non-gear cycle is a myth. There can't be a cycle without a gear. It's just that they have a single gear system as opposed to multi-gear ones. It's wrong to say non-gear cycle.

Why not getting a good gear kit for you cycle
So buy a single speed ride for some time and save i guess about or 2-4k depends on your budget and buy a conversion kit

Thanks dear.. Could you recommend a bike to me. I'm a guy from Varanasi with height 5 ft 10 inches. My budget being 20k- 25 k. I want a nice comfortable riding experience of at least 20 kms in a single go...My weight is 74 Kgs....Wanted low maintenance too...Kindly give me your recommendation for hybrid bike and the road bike. Roads here in Varanasi are not very bad. It's patchy occassionally and its not very often that I have to go through elevation. Only the traffic is quite congested and control is quite important. So may be I would not need mountain bike. I haven't ridden a geared bike before and this would be my first instance, though in youtube videos I found Firefox road runner quite an enticing option but haven't tried on my own. My priority is to have comfortable riding experience without much hassles. I like speed but I'm not competing anywhere and at a stretch I need to be able to ride 20 kms. I haven't done much intercity riding..

I'm an older rider starting back after a 10 year break. This bike exceeds my capabilities and has been easy to get comfortable riding. I'm mostly on easy trails with almost no street riding and have not been disappointed with the performance of the bike. My fitness level is far below what I previously rode with and because of that the mileage is going on the bike slowly. While I'm losing weight slowly, the bike seems to tolerate my 220 pounds just fine. The bike has been used by several family members ranging from 5'5" - 5'9".

It depends it's cassete or free wheel.
If you have 6 and 7 speed, it comes with free wheel and if you want to change it to casette, you have to change the axel.
And casettes usually comes with 8 speed or more.
