Great review mate, if your viewers didn’t already know that your a huge Saxon fan then this vid confirms it man. Saxon is a band that I can take or leave, I have a couple of early albums on vinyl but not really delved further. I’m interested in checking out this album as you mentioned it’s on their heavier side 🤘cheers brother
I’m with you there Thomas, it’s the most balanced album, start to finish, since Lionheart. This one is going to hold up well in their discography. Thanks as always for taking the time to hang out with me 🤘 Cheers my friend
Hey Darcy! This album is awesome! I've been listening to it non-stop since it came out. The title track I could not get out of my head, I just kept singing the chorus over and over. Fire and Steel and 1066 are also favorites of mine. The whole album rocks!!! Great review Darcy! Take care and stay heavy!
Saxon never released a bad record. But I really didn't expect this album to be that good. Madame Guillotine is an absolute banger and my favorite track. Can't wait to see them in march!
Hey Darcy, great video on a great band!! Glad to see this new Saxon is a hit with you too 🤘 OK, this one took me by surprise, I did not expect to be blown away with this one. I have been following Saxon since Power & The Glory, and quickly went back on their first 4, what a great career these guys have had. Their last album Carpe Diem isn't one of my favorites, it kinda disappointed me, but Hell Fire & Damnation blew me out of the water, I have spun it 6-7 times already and its only getting better, the production on this one is just excellent, it just screams "play it again". I went back and played Carpe Diem a few days ago to see what I thought now, and I found my self wanting to take it off and put Hell Fire & Damnation back on. Cheers 🍺🤘
Great review! Vinyl arrived here several days ago. Every song is winner. The big surprise for me was the 12/8 time signature in Witches Of Salem, which typically doesn’t get used a lot in metal.
Yes this one is at the top of my list for 2024 have been on big saxon collecting spree over the last few months only have denim and leather and innocence is no excuse left to get now!
Absolutely agree on your review. The length of it is perfect! It's just a great Saxon album.of modern day! I was watching your ranking by them and now I will try to get all their studio output!. Great video!
Should be easy to get now, they just recently re-issued all 9 studio albums from 1991 to 2009, shit digi sleeves mind you but what can you do! Thanks as always 🤘 Cheers G
Hi Darcy!!! i have seeing and read a couple of reviews and they all agree about how good this album is, and the consistency they had in the previous years and releases. I also think Brian Tatler is a perfect fit, same age, background. Now i have to look after a copy. cheers and be well
Cool review 👍 Another great album by Saxon. I think they are the most consistent band around from the old days. Still doing the business live too, can't wait to see them supporting Priest in March 🙂
I've streamed this twice on Spotify and loved it straight away. I'll pick up a physical copy soon. You want Saxon, you get Saxon. Good album. Cheers Darcy
Great review of an awesome album from one of my all time favourite bands. Biff still sounds great, the songs are built on strong melodies and the sound is superb. I couldn’t be happier. Had to get the limited box with digipak CD an exclusive vinyl colour (red black sunburst), backpatch and numbered artprint.😃 Take care Darcy!🤘
I’ve seen an unboxing of that set, looks awesome! Glad you picked it up. I got more stuff coming from the Saxon Official Store, should be here tomorrow. Thanks as always my friend 🤘Take care ~ Darcy
Excellent review,Darcy. I enjoyed Carpe Diem. Have not picked this new Saxon album up yet. But following this positive review, I'll definitely pick it up. Looking forward to your new Saxon tanking. Cheers 🍻🤘
Fantastic review! Much more in depth than my own. I am like you, I don’t review albums on day of release because I need to live with it a little bit first. I think this album is solid and definitely a great achievement for a band that’s been around this long. Loved your review. Cheers! Gary
Awesome video! This album was abit of pleasant surprise for me. I checked it out mostly out of curiosity since im admittedly not much of a heavy metal guy outside of the big bands. I actually really enjoyed it! The length, consistency and slightly heavier sound was a big contributing factor to that. You pretty said everything else i was thinking so yeah. 😆 other than that im really looking forward to the new priest album! Ill be revisiting “firepower” in preparation. Anywho stay heavy! 🤘🏻
I will be in Priest mode very soon, I’ll rip through the entire discography. I can’t wait for the new album! Thanks as always my friend 🤘 Cheers from down the block
Nice review Darcy, I just got the album and have listen to it a few times and I agree with you that it is more on the heavy side than Carpe Diem. Saxon are solid as hell and are always in form. I watched Biff rocking it on stage in the begining of August and he does not show his age. I hope too that they will at least churn out a few more albums before calling it a day.
Hi, Darcy! I agree with all you said. Got the vinyl copy as well as well as the first vinyl album you have in the background. Been with SAXON since 1983's Power and the Glory. Just the other day I recommended some 90's albums such as Solid Ball of Rock (1990), Dogs of War (1995) and The Eagle Has Landed Live Part 2 (1998 excellent album) to a guy who had not heard those. Take care!
Those are a great recommendations for people, Saxon is such a great live band! The Eagle Has Landed Part II & III just got re-issued this past Friday on CD, well worth getting! Thanks for watching 🔥 Stay Heavy ~ Darcy
@@darcysixstringsninelives3493That live album from 1998 recorded during the Unleash the Beast tour is an excellent must-have with the acoustical stuff on there. Still have my 2xCD copy that's 26 years old. I stayed with SAXON thru the 90's when Metal wasn't cool - only Grunge and NU Metal was. HammerFall as well I love!
Great review Darcy. I had never heard an entire Saxon album from start to finish before this one. I liked it so much that I went back and grabbed everything my local store had in stock lol. Even though I'm late to the party, I've got 12 albums at my disposal now. I've been missing out. Cheers!!
Good to hear your thoughts on the album Darcy. Brian fits in perfectly and they couldn't have got a better replacement for Paul. I've liked what I've heard from the singles they've released, although I'm yet to hear the album in full as I was waiting for the pre-order to arrive, which it won't as they have ran out of stock apparently so I'll be picking it up later today and can't wait.
Saxon is a CD and LP band for me. Got both and have given it a few listens. I think I like it a little better than Carpe Diem. I really like what Brian Tatler has brought to their sound. And like you said a little bit heavier and well balanced album. Cheers Darcy!
I hear you on CD & LP, I even have the cassette coming! Maybe even a possible divorce too lmao. Thanks as always for hanging out with me 🤘 Cheers Justin
Love this album such a strong album each song is strong on thier own I honestly can't choose a favorite thier all great idk if you heard amon Amarths song Saxons And Vikings Biff sings the Saxons side such a heavy album but you always give these albums a good listen before your inputs I despise the day oners
Day 1 reviews are no use to me, generic fluff for the most part & half of them can’t even hold up the physical product to show support! Biff said they’ll never release a perfect album, but he said this one is as close as it gets! I couldn’t agree more!! Thanks as always 🤘 Cheers Chris
It is incredible as saxon on every album continues to make high quality heavy metal , in my opinion on every new album sound better and every album is better .
I think this new album is even better than the last one, carpe diem. This album came out pretty unexpectedly for me. I feel like carpe diem is still their new album. It came out barely 2 years ago with a covers album in between. They are putting out albums again every 2 years like a lot of newer bands are. Usually bands their age put out an album at least 5-7 years or so. Great review. Now let’s hear that new Judas Priest album next! Great review!
I know exactly what you’re saying! Saxon Thunderbolt & Judas Priest Firepower both came out in 2018, and they both have new albums here in 2024, but Saxon also put out Carpe Diem & 2 covers albums in between. That’s incredible! Thanks for the kind words & thanks for watching 🤘 Stay Heavy Duty ~ Darcy
Great in depth review of the new Saxon album Darcy! I know how much you like them, and I'm glad you like the new one. I've never listened to this band, they're just one I've never given any time to before. With this new album it's giving me some motivation to go and give them a proper try! They have a huge discography I know, but I'm willing to give them a go! 😊🤘🏻
Yes for somebody new to the band their discography is overwhelming, it’s like “where do start” lol. I say give this one a go & see what you think 🤘 Cheers Josh
@@darcysixstringsninelives3493 Ha yeah man, it's so daunting to see that huge discography!! Yeah ok man, I'll definitely try it out and see where it might take me! You're welcome mate 😊🤘🏻
Thank you for the review Darcy! I´d love to buy the vinyl version but I´m not paying 30 Euro for a record, no way! I thought about when I last saw the band live and damn, almost 17 years have passed. Wacken 2007 was actually the last time... ok, going to watch that gig here on YT now, hahaha...
Great review for a great album. I'm not ready to say it's better than "Thunderbolt" but I do prefer it over "Carpe Diem". But they have been killing it for a long while. I'm glad you mentioned Nibbs, cuz I think he injected some much-needed new blood waaaaaaaaaay back in '91, which is how long this "Solid Ball of Rock" has been rollin', blemish free. He's a madman live too. It looks like Tatler has been a similar inspiration as well. Already got my tix to see them with Uriah Heep 5/31 in Grapevine. Keep up the good work!
You’re right, way too early to say! I was glad to see all those albums from ‘91 to ‘09 get reissued on cd & a few on vinyl, Nibbs is a huge part of those! Glad you got your tickets 🤘 Cheers my friend
It’s too soon to say where exactly Hell, Fire And Damnation is going stack up in this legendary discography, but I have a feeling it will be in the Top 10 easy! Thanks for watching 🤘 Cheers Stephen
Nice video #Darcy , havnt got the vinyl yet gonna pick that up soon wanted the signed pic with the cd. Lionheart was the first album that got me properly into them saw that tour. Getting spoil this year judas priest and bruce dickinson next.

I haven’t been into Saxon nearly as long as I have been into Priest or Maiden. I think that I only have about half of their discography. I haven’t been disappointed with any of their albums yet, and that includes this one. An excellent way to start out 2024!
Hi Doug Scarrat is in Saxon since 1995...(eagle has landed 2), and Nigel glockler since 1982 denim and leather tour, infact is on the live album eagle has landed 1....only to precise...cheers
Yeah I was only talking studio albums, I should’ve been more clear. So many great live albums, that could be another ranking in itself! Thanks for watching 🤘 Cheers from Canada
Wow there are so many! Here’s 4 for you to check out, a mix of old & new : Thunderbolt 2018, Lionheart 2004, Denim & Leather 1981 & Wheels Of Steel 1980.
Hi Brian has said its not the end of Diamond Head. Paul left amicably he is still making music and playing, the long tours and travelling were getting too much. Great guy.
Yeah I’m going miss Paul, but like I said Brian is the perfect replacement. Both those guys have paid their dues and deserve all the credit in the world!
Great album and love that it's getting a lot of success. It IS a very heavy album - I kind of felt I would of liked a couple of different style tracks in there for a bit of change of pace but that's a small point. Saxon are outdoing Iron Maiden and Priest these days for me. Fave songs at the moment - the title track & 1066. The intro FX on Something in Roswell sounds a lot like Invader from Priest don't you think?
Yeah that could definitely be a shout out to Priest on the beginning of There’s Something In Roswell, good observation! I know Judas Priest & Saxon don’t get the recognition that Iron Maiden does but one thing is for sure their later output is way better! Thanks for watching 🤘 Cheers from Canada
Well I hope Brian is ready to pull double duty, because I think he is a great addition to Saxon. Thanks for watching and thanks for the info, much appreciated 🤘 Stay Heavy ~ Darcy
Saxons best for decades , Brian Tatler adds a new dimension to the sound . There's something in Roswell gets my UFO revved up .... 👽..... cheers Darcy .
I love the album. Another banger from Saxon, and it has landed high on my ranking. Also, just because you mentioned it briefly, I LOVE Destiny. An underrated Saxon classic. More commercial sure, but the songs are there.
Saxon truly do not have a bad album! They really don’t! Plus you can’t fault a band for trying something different. Thanks for watching & commenting, always appreciated 🤘 Take care ~ Darcy
Hey D-Shred!!….While we’re on the topic of Replacement Singers…..How bout a vid exploring the “Best Ones” of that musical division?….Ah, we’re thinking Ronnie for Ozzy….etc….Thanx for the vids, dude, you do a simply awesome job!!
A damn fine album, absolutely! Saxon have never made a bad album - though I might polarize by saying that Rock The Nation and Crusader (being an epochal title track with a collection of really forgettable songs.) were pretty close to that. But THIS is truly very strong and very balanced and complete. Chapeau!
You are right on the money with Crusader & Rock The Nations, both are overrated especially Crusader! They really blew me away with this one, love it! Thanks as always 🤘 Have a great week :))
Yes their 2nd & 3rd albums Wheels Of Steel and Strong Arm Of The Law are both fantastic, and to think they both came out in 1980! Thanks for watching 🤘 Cheers from Canada
It's fantastic now truth be told I don't think they bested Carpe Diem or Thunderbolt but it is in the caliber of the last 11 years here. I'd rank it as great as Sacrifice and Battering Ram.
@@darcysixstringsninelives3493 oh crap. I just saw that they are releasing Forever after and Unleash the Beast too. Now I’m thinking they are going to release all the ones from that box set…now even more torn. 😭😭😭😭

Good review. I'm going to detroit show
That’s awesome! I sure hope they make it to my area of Canada. Enjoy the show 🤘 Take care ~ Darcy
Diamond Head are indeed still alive and kicking! 👍
Well I hope Brian is ready to pull double duty, because I think he is a great addition to Saxon. Thanks for watching and thanks for the info, much appreciated 🤘 Stay Heavy ~ Darcy
@@darcysixstringsninelives3493 try and get to KKsPriest touring the US, my man! Saw them in October, Manchester UK. Best gig of 2023 for me! 🤘
Saxons best for decades , Brian Tatler adds a new dimension to the sound . There's something in Roswell gets my UFO revved up .... 👽..... cheers Darcy .
At our age it’s good to get our “UFO” revved up 🤣 Cheers Double R
That’s a great idea for an episode of SIXwith6STRINGS, thank you it’s noted!
You freaking ROCK!!!!!
@@darcysixstringsninelives3493 The same to you - have a great time :)
I think it's a great cd. My favorite song is 1066.
That’s a great song, good & heavy! Thanks as always 🤘 Cheers Richard
Had all their older Lp's even their first Lp was descent Lp .but their 2nd and 3rd was pretty good.4th crusader is one of their best lp,'s .
Yes their 2nd & 3rd albums Wheels Of Steel and Strong Arm Of The Law are both fantastic, and to think they both came out in 1980! Thanks for watching 🤘 Cheers from Canada
21 listens in a week. Very dedicated.
9 days straight of Hell, Fire And Damnation 🤘 Thanks for watching
It's fantastic now truth be told I don't think they bested Carpe Diem or Thunderbolt but it is in the caliber of the last 11 years here. I'd rank it as great as Sacrifice and Battering Ram.
Saxon have been on such a roll these past 5 albums, with no signs of letting up! Thanks for taking the time to watch & comment 🤘 Take care ~ Darcy
You picking up the music on vinyl reissues of Metal Head and Solid Ball of Rock?
Yes I ordered from High Roller Records, they should be here this week 🤘
@@darcysixstringsninelives3493 I am thinking about it, but I already have them in that Eagles and Dragons box set. I’m torn.
@@darcysixstringsninelives3493 oh crap. I just saw that they are releasing Forever after and Unleash the Beast too. Now I’m thinking they are going to release all the ones from that box set…now even more torn. 😭😭😭😭
@kurtemeigh I do too, but I want to keep that box set in the best condition as possible!
Yes I pre-ordered those last week. I’m sure they’ll reissue all 9.
Some clown on a UA-cam channel said would have been better if they told us who wrote the songs 😂😂lol
Yeah like that would matter lol. Saxon is a team effort, no person in that band cares about their individual accolades.
