Gibraltar is the gateway between Europe and Africa, a small and mountainous peninsula which overlooks the entrance to the Mediterranean Sea in southern Spain. For more than three centuries Gibraltar has been a vital United Kingdom strategic outpost. It is a country of 6.5 square kms with a population of about 28.000 inhabitants, mainly Spanish, Italian, English, Maltese, and Portuguese. It is well known as 'The Rock'.
Military control of the Strait of Gibraltar has historically been the most important use of Gibraltar, allowing Britain to defend its trade lanes to the East. The British and Gibraltarian governments assert that Gibraltar has been effectively decolonized. On the other hand, the UN Special Committee on Decolonization maintains Gibraltar on its list of Non-Self-Governing Territories. Spain opposes any attempt to remove it from this list and Spanish commentators still describe Gibraltar as a 'colony'.
The documentary is part of the 'WE ARE REBELS' series.

As a Brit living in southern Spain, I've visited Gibraltar over a hundred times by now and it's easily my favourite place locally 🇬🇧🇬🇮
My future home I can’t wait to begin my new life in Gibraltar 🇬🇮 &🇬🇧 Forever ❤️
says the gossiper...😬😬😬 tee hee
ohh SO JEALOUS
Gibraltar governs itself, so its description as a "colony", no matter who uses it, including that wonderful organisation, the UN, is quite ridiculous.
How would a referendum on "what Gibraltar wants to be" work? There would be many different answers to such a question but a referendum can only address a choice between two clearly defined outcomes.
In the final analysis, the Gibraltarian people's right to self determination trumps all other arguments.
A very good documentary, though. Thank you for bringing it to us.
We will never give one inch 🇬🇧🇬🇮
It's about the 3rd shortest border. It's around 80m in Peñón de Vélez de la Gomera and 150m in Botswana
Tough shit Spanish fishermen. Spanish, Portuguese and French fishing boats always overfish, always taking the smaller fish!
You can see in his eyes that the fisherman at 1050 right or wrong enjoys trouble.
When will Spain 🇪🇸 give back Ceuta and Mellila to Morocco 🇲🇦???
Love to visit Gibraltar, but I'm not sure the best way to get there from the Northumberland obviously fly but where from and to
stop raking the sea bed you mongs !!
In a couple of years, Gibraltar will come back to the mother land.
Like Ceuta and Melilla
The day Spain gets Gibraltar is the day Morocco gets Cueta and Melilla
"police wanted to arrest me. I ddnt care. Ive hit their engine." well. smart move.
The Spanish king of the day gave it to the British for their help!
Well, an Anglo-Dutch army seized it from Spain on behalf of Archduke Charles, a contender in the Spanish War of Succession, and the Brits kept if thereafter.
@@pinquifrustriThere were 3 referendums in 1969, 2002, and 2016. Every single vote was in favour of Britain
@@oliversherman2414 I know, but it doesn't mean Gibraltar is not a colony in Spanish territory.
@@pinquifrustri It doesn't matter what Spain wants. It's what the Gibraltarians want that matters. They've voted over and over again to stay British, so why can't you just accept their wishes? It's their choice to make, not yours
It’s got more than 28000 inhabitants
Nearly 35,000 now
The last census counted 38000

Would the Brits try to take back a Spanish colony in, let's say, Dover? Pues eso.
Well, the Gibraltarians themselves voted to stay British
@@oliversherman2414 Great. Did the British Gov give a damn about Chagosians?
@@pinquifrustri I don't know what that is
