    Nissan should revive the S chassis. The 90s Japanese car scene is my favorite.

      Christian Dinero yes, & bring back the only s chassis model to be built not on an s chassis.... The b14 usdm 200sx, aka the b14 jdm nissan lucino. Both shared the chassis with the sentra (usdm) / sunny (jdm)

    Silvia's will always be a part of my life. I think the size, the design and weight and the SR20DET made them perfect. I wonder if more work to the balance of the chassis would have helped at survavibility, because they tend to act like Porsche's when you give them more power to the engine, and owners have a hard time keeping them alive on the road, there just to light in the rear. But my only true wish is they stopped Drifting them, and that people discovered there track potential. The future of these cars seems dire.

    • @GTContent
      @GTContent  7 років тому +4

      Yes, I never really understood the drifting thing. It doesn't really provide any performance value as I don't believe I've seen a racing competition where it ever won against grip driving. If that were the case, major brands like Ferrari, Lamborghini, Porsche, McLaren would be seen adopting it. Everyone has there own preferences though. I believe it's just a "Cool" thing to do with a car like doing a burnout, donuts, etc. which can be fun.

    Thank you for this video. I'm a huge Silvia fan. I was fortunate to have owned a 180SX (known as a 200SX) in Singapore and it was the cleanest one around. I dropped in a SR20 from a S15, using a S14 gear box and had multiple upgrades from a R33 under the chassis. I missed my car so much that I'm not shy to say that I actually teased when I had to sell her away. Today, all I have in a beautiful tattoo of her exact image on my arm. I've kept all the magazines that I was featured in too. Love the car. 😃🙏👍🤘❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️

    I always loved the look of the S15. I was fortunate enough to purchase a beautiful worked JDM widebody Spec R a few years back as a weekend ride.
    Fulfilling a lifelong desire to own a high powered turbo street machine with big deep dish rims.
    Every time I take it out, I am approached by people asking about it. It is unbadged so I even get some people thinking it is some new exotic sports car.
    I hope the Silvia returns one day.

    In Japan the S14 was introduced in 1993. And with many options...
    Back then and earlier the model cycle was very short in Japan unlike today.
    The S15 is one of the most beautiful car designs! :)
    And now they have the VCT engine. That would work in the S16.

      then change the title of this video, certainly not the history of the Silvia but more like the "popular" versions of the Silvia, the z history video you did included all the Zs. This Silvia video is just a selective highlight. The z31 was within the same timeline of the S12, the S12 is well worth mentioning.

    Great video helped me clear up some stuff on the 180 200 240 and silvia, although there are so many similarities and differences I'd like to know more about the differences between each model if you would make another video. If not it's still a great video and thanks!!

    • @GTContent
      @GTContent  7 років тому

      The major differences will be #1Engine and #2Cosmetic. I go through it in the video, but below is a briefing. (I did not cover the European 200SX).
      Silvia (JDM) Initially offered with CA18DET (hence the 1 & 8 in 180SX), then later the SR20DET.180SX (JDM) Initially offered with CA18DET (hence the 1 & 8 in 180SX), then later the SR20DET.
      200SX (EDM) Initially offered with CA18DET (hence the 1 & 8 in 180SX), then later the SR20DET. (Don't confuse this with the 200SX in the US which is FWD and had an option for the SR20DE).
      240SX (USA) Initially offered with the KA24E (hence the 2 & 4 in 240SX), then later KA24DE.

  • @RobertNES816
    @RobertNES816 7 років тому +1

    After looking at a good number of your videos it seems like the late 70's through the late 90's was Japan's peak in sports car manufacturing. After that all the newer offerings just blend together and became boring cars that don't even capture the target audience anymore. Its like they're trying to make a sports car into something bigger and more practical.

    The reason for s15 and Silvia demise was new emissions refs at the time. The SR turbo motor was not compliant and the costs to develop it or create a new motor was too much for a company that just avoided bankruptcy

    I wish I knew what I was doing the first car I bought. I passed up an Eagle Talon, 280Z, molded Foxbody, ect... I chose a 95 Nissan Sentra 5-speed for $900.. It was $2500 on the window but dealer was fam friend. It looked brand new with 30,000's miles. And I put $2K into the stereo system with the money I saved. I should have got a S13/S14. Back in 2004ish. I didn't have my priorities straight when I came across my first big chunk of cash.

    Biggest difference between the red n black top s13 sr is the black top has a different ecu and the black top has heat sinks on the cylinder head. S13 sr also have extremely poor baffling inside the valve cover. You will commonly see the an s14/15 valve cover with the forward section of the s13 valve cover welded on.

    Nissan should release an S16 and price it just a tiny bit above the FRS. With a turbo engine that makes anywhere in the 300 range, they could be super aggressive with marketing and advertise it as the car everyone who bought an FRS wishes they had.

    • @GTContent
      @GTContent  6 років тому

      Not likely since it will eat into 370Z sales. They've already done this in the 90's (Skyline, 300ZX, Silvia, 180SX) hence they went bankrupt. If you're dead set on a Silvia-like car, then just buy a GT/BRZ and turbocharge it. Nissan's hesitation caused Toyota/Subaru to build it.

    Nissan and Toyota have just gone down hill since then if you're a sports car enthusiast. They used to have so many good options. I guess in a way it's a plus for current owners of these cars because in good condition they aren't depreciating as much as other cars of their era have since there's no newer version (even though me personally still would probably prefer the older style for the nostalgia)

    The actually can you know... I mean.. Nissan has tons of 4-bangers saloon cars and it's easy to just take one, redesign it and make it into a new engine. For Nissan, it's easy but with the 370Z and GTR, I think they did not want to destroy the niche now but for pure JDM fans, they should have released a new Silvia by now.

    • @GTContent
      @GTContent  7 років тому

      Not viable. R&D and casting for a new engine without purpose (using across multiple platforms) is expensive. Hence, you see engines of the same family in FWD, RWD and maybe AWD configuration. Ex: Nissan Altima/Maxima sharing the VQ with the 350Z.
      History: The reason Nissan went into bankruptcy in the 90's is exactly what you are saying. Nissan had too many models in their lineup. Why buy a larger 300ZX TT when you can get a lighter Turbo Silvia?....sales would eventually be taken from the Z to the Silvia....internal competition.
      I believe even the GT/86 is having slow sales figures right now, so it's not really a market you'd want to get into unless you are the Mazda Miata which seems to kill anything that competes with it.

    Well, it came as a surprise to me that S13 with the fixed headlights never came out in USA and Europe. So were all of the LHD S13s Silvia just converted so called Notchbacks?

    • @GTContent
      @GTContent  6 років тому +1

      Yes, they were all converted to the "Flip-up" headlights prior to getting shipped out to the US.

      @juvcho 6 років тому

      hm, andhow about Europe, did we get any LHD S13 Silvias with the fixed headlights?
      Thanks for your reply!

    • @GTContent

      From my memory (Double check), I don't believe Europe received the S13 "Coupe/Silvia" with the fixed headlights. I recall Europe receiving the S13 Fastback and then the S14 Silvia. The S13 "Coupe/Silvia" that you might see around were privately imported. Like I mentioned, double check as I don't live in Europe.

    what do 180sx’s go for? I’m looking for one, but I’m not sure what to offer in terms of mileage and condition. For reference, what I’m interested in has 60k miles and needs little to no work done on it.

    Do you personaly think they will ever revive the silvia class tot compete the 86/BRZ? since the 86 is being produced a couple of years now? I do own a GT86 ( Europe ) myself :-)

    • @GTContent

      +stijn v.g. I highly doubt it. Nissan doesn't have a performance 4-cylinder atm. Honestly, they lost their opportunity when the GT86/BRZ came out.
