    Sony doesn't do hybrid anymore. They divide photo and video and I don't see that changing. That's why I ditched sony. A7iv was molasses for video and I'm not paying $6500 for hybrid.

    • @learningcameras
      @learningcameras  8 місяців тому +1

      Yeah, seems to get back to the fact that Sony is a Sensor manufacture first and a camera manufacture 2nd. They tend to innovate on the sensor level and then try to make corresponding cameras to fit the sensor. So they have a great high resolution sensor, the best high speed sensor, and the best low light sensor, but as far as a mix of all of them, still nothing and unfortunately, being amazing at 1 thing usually means you're less good at something else. So if you're looking for general hybrid, they are just OK but if you want something specific, Sony is tough to beat

    The Cameras I want to see are Hasselblad X3D with improved EVF, improved IBIS, improved back screen (hard to see the top of the screen when flipped out) and Sony´s 157 megapixels sensor (which they hide for public !). I want to see more Sony Cameras that are much more oriented towards PHOTOGRAPHY, Sony Cameras without video functions will be wonderful ! Sony should make a A7000 with the 40 megapixels APSC sensor ! I also wait for a A7R6 with the 93 megapixels sensor. Also a Leica "Q"- style Camera with a very good EVF and Leica M-mount, plus cheaper Leica Lenses ! Compact Camera with a 35mm fixed Lens in style as the Contax T/Minox 35 ML will be very nice. More light weight Lenses for Fuji GFX and Hasselblad X-series, also for Sony, I want to see Sony "GMC" Lenses that do not have aperture 1.4/1.8, but much more compact and light weight with the same or even better optical image quality without the need of software to perform ! It could also ne other brands for Sony E-mount, fx new Voittländer APO-Lanthar Lenses, improved Zeiss Loxia and Zeiss Lenses, for Sony E-mount I want an excellent compact 24mm (I have the Sony 24mm 1.4 GM), I only want prime Lenses, there are a big lack of long tele prime Lenses for Sony, like 300mm 4.0, 400mm 4.5, 500mm 5.6...

      I used the original X1D and it was almost an awesome camera but AF was barely usable...I know the X2D improved things quite a bit and I'm sure the X3D will round it out nicely. Have you checked out the Fujifilm XH2? That's a 40mp APSC sensor made for photography...that also happens to have some awesome video specs.

      @@learningcameras I never do video (I hate videos !) I hope Sony will make Cameras without video functions or at least have the ability to shut down all video functions and hide video functions in the menu system.
      I know the Fuji, but I do not want two systems, with Sony I can use all my full frame Lenses on a Sony APSC Camera.
      I do not care about autofocus, I use manual focus 99.99% of the time.

      @learningcameras  8 місяців тому

      @@cameraprepper7938 Honestly the way the menus are setup, if you leave the Sony camera in Photo mode, the main video menu's completely disappear and all of your custom menus have separate controls for video and photo anyway so nothing video on Sony cameras will mess with photo. I think the Sony A7CR is extremely photo biased. It might have video but the sensor and hardware was created with the photographer in mind. Having over 60MP is HORRIBLE for video. That camera has almost medium format level detail and dynamic range because those BSI sensors are so good, has next level AF, and because the resolution is so high, the APSC mode is actually usable at over 26MP which is more than enough

      @@learningcameras I have Sony A7RIV Cameras, but I want to hide the video functions in the main menu so it is faster scrolling through the menu to a "forgotten" setting. I do not like the A7CR, though I like the design with the EVF in the corner, the A7CR is too expensive for what you not get ! Too small EVF wit too low resolution, one car slut, no joystick, no mechanic first curtain shutter and the camera is too thick to be compact because of the articulating screen.

      I live in FL so overheating isn't history for me on the R5, even with the firmware updates which did help. I know Tony well but he lives NORTH of New York so not representative of those of us in scorching humidity lol. But Nikon can shoot more than 30 minutes of video, 4k120 in any format...not just ALL-I h.265 (almost unusable the file sizes are so large), 10bit works in all modes not just LOG, it has prores recording, 8k60, and shoots 20fps in raw with with no rolling shutter, no wear and tear, no sound, and no viewfinder blackout. My biggest concern for A9iii is the base ISO at 2000 when using SLOG which is what I would use when shooting video and photo image quality at iso 10,000 or 12800 (which is what most cameras get to even with F2.8 prime lenses when shooting high school field sports at night or inside school gymnasiums.

    many ask about nikon, i m talking about video....not photos ...in my area whoever uses nikon for video (not z8,z9) has issues cause the files are not so good , there is no latitude and colors are simple on the bad side...maybe a new model does it better but for ppl that work with cameras on the 2k range nikon is not a good option for video atm...

      In the past, Nikon only shot 8bit internal which is not enough latitude to work with LOG... although Nikon's FLAT video profile worked extremely well. Even then, I thought Nikon's 8bit video held up better to a grade than Sony's 8bit...just not as good as Panasonic. With the Z8/Z9 and likely and future camera, Nikon can shoot full 10bit 422 like everyone else so those days are over.

    If the fx4/sony a7siv gets the global shutter from the a9
    I see ALOT of people shifting as that’s ground breaking at a consumer level pricepoint

    • @learningcameras
      @learningcameras  8 місяців тому

      The global shutter has disadvantages too in low light and dynamic range. It absorbs almost half the light of a traditional sensor so it's about 1 stop worse. • @dreadnoughtphotowerkz

    Honestly, I need the Canon R1 to do one thing really good, and that is to shoot sports. Honestly, all the other things that they want this camera to do I could care less about. Currently, I shoot with a Canon R3 for all of my sports work, and it's a beast. I'm glad I don't buy into all of the extra hype. I do remember one thing. This camera is basically built to do high-speed photography when it comes to sports. That is what the 1 series camera is built for, sports. And if the price is too expensive for others, then they need not buy it. Whatever features they put into this camera so it can be the master of all is great. As long as it is absolutely great at doing high-speed sports photography. Because that's the only thing I'm concerned about.

    • @learningcameras
      @learningcameras  8 місяців тому +1

      So what is it you want that the R3 doesn't already give you? Faster like the A9III or more resolution?

    • @dreadnoughtphotowerkz
      @dreadnoughtphotowerkz 8 місяців тому +1

      @learningcameras As I said before, the Canon R1 is a sports camera. My Canon R3, in my opinion, is also a sports camera. If the Canon R1 gives me more megapixels, fine, I'll definitely buy it, if it gives me more speed, of course I'll buy it. But all the other things that they want to shove into that camera don't concern me. I need it to be the master of sports photography as the 1 series always has been. As far as Sony goes, it's a great camera. I have no plans ever to switch from Canon to Sony just because a Sony camera made be better. It is still the skill of the photographer versus the camera if you have terrible skills no matter what camera you use, you're not going to get the shot. This is why I don't buy into the hype. I will buy into the capabilities of a camera. And with Canon's new RF 100-300 mm that's a game changer for me. I've also used the Canon RF 1200 mm for sports and I love it. It has its place when I need it. And that's the gist of it. I buy equipment based off of what I need it for. I don't need it to be the master of everything, but I do need it to be the master of at least the one thing I bought it for, and for me, the R1 is for sports.

The Z8 is incredible - but gets nearly zero support from UA-camrs or influencers - Nikon needs to step up their game in this regard. I don’t think there’s going to be an update on the SIII/FX3 with the updated SIII firmware coming out. I don’t think the sensor size will increase, unless the processor gets a serious update. The benefit of the smaller MP sensor is the better rolling shutter performance, and the light sensitivity. Every cinema camera is a smaller MP readout.
    Also, in terms of the lack of benefits between the SIII body and the FXIII body - I think the weather sealing on the SIII is a major benefit over the FX body since it has exposed fans. The SIII also has the EVF so you don’t have to depend on that LCD screen when you’re outside.

    • @learningcameras
      @learningcameras  8 місяців тому

      So that's why the sensor would need to be a stacked cmos sensor like the A9II to ensure the increase in MP doesn't negatively affect rolling shutter. But with a stacked cmos sensor like the A9II and Nikon Z8/Canon R3, they could easily handle increased resolution.
      The Z8 does 8k60 and 4k120 with a 45mp stacked cmos sensor with almost no rolling shutter and can shoot for 2hrs without overheating in 8k! Sony only has to do that with 24mp and 6k60 so that should be easy lol

    I'm now really beginning to see that Full Frame all out gears and accessories are slowly being pushed into the corner for professionals and enthusiasts. Why? Because I was one of those guys who likes to get gears and accessories, but when I travel it became so much of a burden. Now you can have all of that in a small DJI Pocket 3 and I feel it just makes so much sense. Photos can all be taken on our cameras with amazing quality already so videos on a small handheld such as the Pocket 3 makes a complete combo.
    For about 95% of people those little cameras and a phone covers all you'll never need.

    • @learningcameras
      @learningcameras  8 місяців тому

      So I actually have a full review coming out on the Pocket 3...I have one and I love it! The quality is insane for the price/size. But, most of my content is geared towards content creators, photographers, and videographers who are every year trying to improve or to be able to do this professionally some day, and thus most of my info will be focused on cameras that push you forward in that way. Regardless of how good a phone is or the pocket 3 is, it's difficult to get paid to shoot content using them so I tend to see those as BTS tools, family/vacation cameras, and when you need a quick shot. So to the end user, a pocket 3 or phone might be all you need, but to anyone trying to improve, develop a craft, or make a living, they are not in most situations. In the same way that while my $20 frying pan might be "good enough" to cook eggs for me and my kids, any wanna be chef, person with $ to spare, or someone trying to perfect their cooking skills should get something better.

    Dan, thank you for the video. Interesting view of potential new cameras. Personally just a stills shooter but always interested to learn what’s happening in the hybrid and video segments of the market. While an A1 shutter with also A7RV very happy with the new small A7Cx bodies. Do hope Sony introduces some improved smaller lenses great for travel.

      I just thought Nikon could have done so much more with that. It's not bad or anything, but given the price, it just feels like the specs are more like cameras from a couple years ago and given where Nikon is in the market right now, they need to go all out. The Z8 was a great example of going all out. If Nikon's Z6III is largely based on the Zf, they are in trouble

      @@learningcameras it’s true I don’t have the historical perspective and appreciation for what Canon has meant for artists over the years - but my perspective of them tends to being really heavy handed and taking their patrons, for granted, in certain ways?

    • @learningcameras
      @learningcameras  8 місяців тому +1

      @@cogmission1 Yeah, the way Canon approached the transition to mirrorless does make them come off that way. But remember, there were more Canon EF lenses, even from 3rd parties, than ANY other system in existence so Canon was extremely open and I hope they return to that stance soon. But definitely during the transition to mirrorless (which they are still not 100% done with), there were TONs of decisions made from a board room of suits that didn't benefit the end user like not allowing 3rd parties and software limiting cameras. Sony had the advantage of not really having anything to protect.
      We're seeing this in the transition to electric cars as well where Tesla goes all out with speed on their cars while traditional ICE car brands limit EV abilities to protect their bread and butter ICE cars and performance lines. It might make BMW's M devision a bit worried if any standard 3 series EV can beat a $100,000 M3 off the line yet a $45,000 Tesla 3 can. So we're seeing companies software limit their EV's like Canon software limited the first few rounds of RF cameras.

      @@learningcameras All good points. I appreciate your perspective as a long standing professional in the industry. I had my opinion sullied by the time of my entrance into the market (2019), and choosing Panasonic due to their emphasis on thorough videography tools - then later getting crushed by the sense that they weren’t listening to their patrons, screaming about auto focus!
      So the last move I would make leaving Panasonic would be to go to Canon, who seem like the poster boy for ignoring and negligence, and outright guile…
      Sony seemed like the only rational choice… Because I wasn’t making enough money to cross invest in glass from different manufacturers, and couldn’t afford to take a loss in order to switch in total? Then, when I saw Sony’s consistent trend toward innovation and customer response, I was sold!
      Now I’m thinking about going to red because I’m just not happy with the A7S3-based sensors! I bought an A1 because of the improvement in color, science and innovation, but I had to get rid of it after Covid and loss of income! And now I’m happy I did because Sony seems to be prioritizing gimmicky advancements more than color, science and secret sauce?

    I’m looking for a true cine FX body from Sony this year, such as an FX9 MarkII. THAT I would shell out the $ to purchase. Let that system rise to 6k with hopefully an internal X-OCN option (like the Burano) and CFExpressB media. The FX3 is fine where it is for another year I think, though yes, the A7SIII is getting out of date as a hybrid. It will be interesting to see what they do there.

      Yeah but it doesn't have much competition except with 3+ year old cameras that are actually based on 5+ year old cameras. So the Sony A7C for example might have the larger battery, but it's 5 year old tech which makes a difference with autofocus, sensor read speeds, and video...and it's still more expensive than the R8!
