You can see tips on how to improve your balance on my channel. As for riding a bike, the faster you bike the quicker you learn to maintain your balance.
Three things I do to improve my balance on a bike: 1) ride mountain bikes - learn to let the bike move around under you & don't react to every tiny slide. 2) ride slowly while maneuvering (around cones or natural obstacles), 3) learn to track stand (I'm not so good at this yet) and try to never unclip at junctions (safely, of course).
I feel very proud of myself - I rode about 100m with my hands off the handlebars today, for the first time ever. I'm 38 years old :-D Yeah, balance is not my best attribute. And my 6 year old son is teaching himself to do this already with casual ease...
Thank you, I thought it was just me who couldn't let go with one hand for a proper look behind. Turning slightly and using peripheral vision to check on the traffic coming up behind you regularly is good practice though, and I am managing to balance better and turn further now. I'll get there.
I live in an area with some crazy steep hills. Not all of us can climb like Quintana but whatever your fitness level if a hill is steep enough at some point you will be balanced limited - struggling to produce enough power to not to fall over. The ability to ride very slowly can keep you out of the red zone and get you up some very steep hills that you otherwise would need to walk.
The thing is once I'm biking I don't dare to shift my gaze, turn my head, and certainly not even release one hand off the handles because I know I will fall if I do.
This is generally pretty good already in my case, because I drive to school every day, and I'm used to making those adjustments to my balance and driving in traffic. #commute And I know the best moment to stand on one leg: whilst brushing your teeth.

Since i started do parkour, my bike handling skills have significantly improved. It's a great cross-training, i can recommend it to anyone
Standing on half balance balls (mounted on a wooden platform) with the ball side down is excellent, as is doing push ups on them is just as good. The push up method works by having your inner ear in a different orientation to allow you to train your body to adapt faster.
Push ups? je ne comprends pas. We are cyclists and every day is a leg day. Any upper body workout that builds mass is like kryptonite. Upper body mass is just more weight to power up a climb! ;)
I'll really use these tips... Within 2 days of biking, i've already hit a car, broke one of my front tooth, and my pace is slower than walking... it's really depressing and demotivating. But it won't give up just yet... I hope one day, I'll get it
I amuse myself by trying to ride down the center of the white painted line marking the edge of the travel lane. Of course, assuming there is a paved shoulder to the right, the road is reasonably straight, and it's not raining. It helps to relax and look far ahead. Which naturally means that you can't see whether your tires are on the line. The line is often slightly smoother than the rest of the pavement, so perhaps you can feel when you are on it.
If you want good balance, look at the horizon. Your body will respond to keep you perpendicular to the horizon. And make sure you keep your ears clean equilibrium has everything to do with sound.
These old videos are so much more informative and entertaining than anything made since the new presenters joined in. Far less explicitly promotional content too.
cross training MTB. helps a lot more than just balance. just like MTB people should hit the road once in a while. thinking about it. this would make a good gcn/gmbn video
If I have to look directly behind me, I find putting one hand on the back of the saddle helps. For some reason it eliminates the risk of veering or wobble.
I have a small rear-view mirror attached to my helmet. The mirror is convex so it provides a wide field of view. It makes it very easy and safe to glance behind me without having to turn around. Do you guys ever use them?
The videos in these channel are awesome and much informative and helpful. I would like to request to make a video on how to ride a bicycle with one hand for beginners
I couldnt try them all so i only did a few but still made me better cause I needed to use legs every 2 secs now I need legs every 30 secs. Great improvement for me
GCN, I truly enjoy your youtiube channel and very informative video narratives. As like most people who troll youtube videos I look for instructive videos. I find many ramble on and on with useless banter. However, the videos you place in here are entertaining, whimsical, and definitely get the point across. Thanks you. Kevin
You should probably make a sort of album of the tracks you put in your videos. I'd definitely pay on iTunes for at least two of them. And two great tracks is enough to make a decent album.
Did Matt shrink the GCN kit? Or are they going incognito so they don't get stopped every few metres by all the GCN fans waiting for them on the roadside?
Let us know your tips for improved balance in the comments below 👇
Taking both hands off the bar makes it even more easy to turn back.
Proprioceptive training.
Global Cycling Network how come you are not wearing your gcn kit ?
Speed skating on ice skates or roller blades will improve your balance significantly

The part of England where this video was shot is absolutely stunning. Italy has nothing that rivals it.
cheeky.
Props to Norfolk council
+GTiR23 even cheekier!
GTiR23 it's not quite as flat as you think😉

Saw your video and moved my seat forward - what a difference - much more more comfortable, better balance - Thank you

- rollers
- very high cadence, low force drills on the road
- as a variation on just riding slowly, emergency stop to a crawl :-)
2:03 When your owner pretends to throw a ball and you get a bit confused.
When looking back, grab the back of your saddle. Helps keep you centered on the bike.
going to try that tmr
@@aurboda Put one hand on the bar next to the stem and the other on the back of the saddle, then look back. Let me know what you think.
@@aurboda did it help?
@@thetin5957 he fell and died.
I must have great balance. I ride VERY slowly ALL the time
It's easier to balance when you are riding a bit faster
That’s the joke.
You madlad!
For real tho😂😂

This is really more helpful than recent GCN videos
Loving Matt's "new jersey, new tan lines" look.

no gcn Jersey?
Yeah. What the hell are these two wearing? Looks like StageOne Sports brand
Leif Clements They are Bellweather short sleeve jerseys.
I recall them wearing white ones in some videos last year.
Aditya Achary they weren't able to wash them ?
Aditya Achary my first thought here too!
Aditya Achary Skills video for British Cycling. GCN make a lot of the videos for them, must have to rep their kit sponsors as part of the contract
I biked 2 miles non stop thanks to you guys
Matt been rocking the jawbreakers lately
Matt, those are some impressive tan lines on your arms. I thought they were the championship stripes until the resolution of the video improved.

good luck! :D
You’ll get there - just keep going out and riding!
You can look behind also dropping the head under your left or right arm keeping both hand on handlebar

"SirBlot, please take your hands off the keyboard and step away from the computer, or we'll have to covfefe you, and you don't want that!"
How come you did not mention the trackstand, the father of all balance drills?
Especially important after 🍻
Try running bow to stern on a sailboat (15 degree tack), that's how I got my balance!!
Wow-- what a beautiful road!
If you want good balance, look at the horizon. Your body will respond to keep you perpendicular to the horizon. And make sure you keep your ears clean equilibrium has everything to do with sound.
Congrats on your New glasses matt. They Look worlds Better Than before
Winter indoor training on rollers helps build up balancing skills. Once or twice a week, 30 minute sessions.
03:08 what a backdrop, where on earth are they. Looks marvellous.

Look at that!!! Matt showing of some serious guns!
the background at 3:20 is so beautiful and polished I thought it was green screen for a bit there!
Matt looks good in the black - and he hasn't been skipping his arm workouts lately.
Love the British sense of humor then it also was good tip for beginners too.
I can move my body all over the bike when descending , and I can go no handed but this video was a massive help! 👍

Loving the Elemnt Bolt! Glad to see you guys are repping it too.
I love it when GCN uses a green screen to add scenery.
They didn't actually use a green screen. They are currently in the dolomites

What about riding rollers? Thinking about learning to and wondered if this would help.
really helps for your balance, and also souplesse.
Matt looks extremely pro with his Jawbreakers!

I watch every video of you guys😉👍🏻👌🏼
I like Si's kit.
You guys are very friendly lads
superb glasses Matt, suit you really well
this helps, I already have insane balance but im trying to help my friend
I feel like Matt shouldn't be the one teaching us about balance....
Matt's next 2 videos:
- how to clip in quickly, first time, every time!
- how not to fall off your bike :-D
Ha!
Ha
Ha?
Ha...
What happened to the GCN kit ???
Cycling Charan new sponsor. Bellwether
Hi, It's a video we made with Bellwether clothing. Thanks. Social Jon
Alvar Wæhle oh great
Global Cycling Network nice kit 👌👌
Cycling Charan yes, I want si's jersey
beautiful kit!
nice seeing different apparel~
I like the new kits
Hahahha love the intro! So funny! Ty for the helpful tips! A beginner rider here :)
Thank you
Where was this shot!? It's absolutely beautiful! Thanks for the tips!
We shot this one in a region of Italy called Alta Badia.
Unless you're holding a sparkler which should be done at arms left
I literally just watch this video 30 minutes ago with some of the same tips... I'm new to biking and love the channel though.
Yes sir I agree roler trainer best for balance
My neck is fused two levels. No head turn for me to the left so... mirror. Small wide angle mirror. Ya gotta do what ya gotta do.
Big respect to the camera man
Be safe like Matt and Sy, always wear your helmet while practicing standing balance drills.
Cheers mate
I like the cheery techno music
Omg, the view at 4:30.
Some track or a'la track stand tips would be nice
Try MotoGymkhana, skill bike riding around cones.
GCN jersey all the time
The tune playing in the background around 45 seconds was in your last video, love it! What is it?
Wow, where was this filmed? Beautiful. Cheers to the production team, great job :-)
Maggie Triggs Wales.
+Maggie Triggs it is in Alta Badia, Italy.
Global Cycling Network Very cool, I would love to ride there. Thank you!
@ 4:22 u really get to see Matts massive guns compared to Si! 😂
What is the make and model of the black bike in this video. It seems to afford a more upright position with it's frame geometry?
Can i see a tutorial video on how to improve your balance in a road bike by the use of exercise like in GMBN
I just now notice.Matt actually has a pretty good upperbody.
💪
no gcn kits but i love the bibs nice what brand are they??
Bellwether, thanks.
Just showing off the tan lines with a different cycling kit?
Why are you not wearing the GCN kit?
Hi, It's a video we made with Bellwether clothing. Thanks. Social Jon
I like Matt's Jersey. Can't work out the brand name though. Where's it from?
Cool kits
they:ride a bike
cameramen:running to keep recording them
I do miss Matt and Simon. The good old days.
Next up, how to look backwards while riding rollers. That I would like to see how about it Mat?
you dudes are cool.
You can probably put both feet on pedals and stay in that position for a couple minutes and your balance will get better. I think
wait...New NEW GCN kit?! also would you guys make your kit in larger sizes?
We're wearing Bellwether kit in this video Julio, this is not our Assos team kit.
I love bicycle riding. But I don't know how to change gears while riding
Ride rollers and it will improve you balance handling an pedaling technique
2:18 Usually riding really slowly doesn't mean being in the big ring Si...
Looks like Matt's towel trick didn't work and your GCN kit was still wet
Did Matt shrink the GCN kit? Or are they going incognito so they don't get stopped every few metres by all the GCN fans waiting for them on the roadside?
Francis Paulin that's great, I've used It as well, I was just kidding about them not using their usual kit.
