    It's now getting beyond a joke with the prices the big companies are charging. This is where Kirkland are exposing and taking advantage of the gap in the market of affordable and really good equipment. I'd take 3 Kirkland wedges over 1 overpriced wedge all day long. Golf is now becoming a snobbery, "What's in the bag?" PXG realised they were alienating a huge market and reduced their products and they got better and sold more. Callaway, Taylormade, Ping are becoming the old PXG.

    • @claytonjohnson2033
      @claytonjohnson2033 5 місяців тому

      PXG showed the leaders (Callaway, Taylormade, Titleist, Ping, etc.) how much the market was willing to bear. Even if it wasn't going to be the astronomical pricing of the PXG clubs, they still showed the rest of the market that they could increase their prices. And ever since, prices have been steadily trending upwards year by year. Titleist just unveiled their GT line of drivers and woods, and the driver line is up to $650. They're now the most expensive driver in the mainstream market, where Callaway and Taylormade and the rest are still sitting at $600. Next year the rest of them will be sure to match Titleist, as well.

Saved 4 shots my first time in the bag. Very crisp feeling when you make contact on full wedge shots from 90-100 yds.Gets a nice check and release on short green side pitches and chips. @@DanielFolsom I think there are more and more specialisation now. Which is why split sets are more and more common. Driving irons are designed and manufactured to work in very specific ways so the 2i, yeah, it probably is. I've seen a lot of good players using UDI type clubs, cavity backed through to 5 or 6 and then forged down through pw. Simply changing the loft and everything else being the same is probably a thing of the past. I'd say 5-pw are standard clubs, outside of those then you'd want to look at perfomance, flight and spin, launch, descent etc so they fit how you play.

  • @TylerKipp

    Expensive? Yes but if we compare it to a driver or a fairway wood that most golfers use less times than their wedges, then the price makes sense and much easier to stomach. Short game reduces more strokes than a driver that cost 3 times as much. Well worth the investment to me.

    The problem for Callaway in selling a $250 wedge is that it will bat right up against brands like Miura (starting from about $250).
    Many of the Callaway irons played by their tour pros are made by Miura so it wouldn't surprise me if this wedge is made by them and that's why it's so expensive...

The biggest thing you get from Callaway and other major brands is the option of different grinds and bounce. Kirkland wedges don't have the best bounce and grind that fit my swing and turf interaction. Kirkland just said, hey if you want a wedge in a very popular and familiar shape, with no personalization, and your top concern is cost, her you are. I think they are great to have, however the lack of grind options is a big reason they are able to keep things cheap but also why they are good, but not quite great.

      @@bigal7299 Why do they bother?
      Kirkland aren't interested in quality, technically advanced products etc, they're only concerned about profit.
      You can pay as little as you want for golf gear, or as much as you want. If you're on a budget and similarly don't care then go ahead, buy Kirkland, but given that MyGolfSpy have warned against their inconsistent golf balls, why would anyone take the risk with a non golf manufacturer putting their name to an old wedge design?

    Costing nearly 7 hundred bucks for a set of wedges is almost as ridiculous as paying the price for new woods or iorns. The big brands are pricing themselves out of so many people's budget. It's not surprising that the DTC companies and Costcos are doing so well when it comes to new clubs for the average Joe.

    It's nice playing with really lovely clubs. If you have more disposable income, then why not? A more talented player with bog standard will outplay a worse player with more expensive clubs, but it's about the experience. It is like most things in life... food, drink and cars. There will always be people willing to pay more; it's life.

    UK prices is £229 but some deals @ £209 thats a rip really as a straight conversion on 230 US dollars is £172.01 which highlights the manufacturers are really taking the Mickey especially after the hype of last year that they were saying they had the negative feedback and would review their costing models - right so that fell on stony ground then.
    Good revue though and agree they are overpriced in my opinion but they obviously feel they can get away with it - sad.
