I never used to understand why I used get goose bumps when I watched my aunt (sangoma) dance every time there was imisebenzi yezangoma at home. I always noticed that music does something to my spirit, I didn't know why but now I'm slowing beginning to understand just how powerful sound and vibration is. Even now when I'm listening to music I get goosebumps when the songs hits, sometimes I even get embarrassed because my whole skin changes all over my body. I remember listening to sermon by Pastor Chris long time ago when I was still a christian, he said everything responds to sound. I remember just how it resonated with me when he said that. Bishop's light is so profound.

Lo Baba has so many quotables. I love his apologies and richness in history. When I was still a Christian, I used to resonate with the "controversial" views he shared as a Bishop, and now I resonate with his views more as a farmer of thoughts.

Wow, Ntsiki mtase this was an enjoyable podcast i've ever watched with mighty thinker and historian Joshua Maponga. It's a pity that I'm not in our country South Africa presently but what I'd like to contribute is that we as Xhosa people of South Africa with have wonderful traditional music that had never been fully explored by our people. Some like Mirriam Makeba, Madosini, Ntemi Piliso's Jazz Pioneers, etc. have tried to present it to the world but not there's still a lot be done by our Xhosa musicians. Despite our liberation or democracy there's no one ever came to establish an African school or a South African traditional music school. Like you I'm also MIYA, a music graduate, a saxophonist but I live in Europe. I always listen to the traditional music of GATYENI"S Iingoma Zamagqirha. If he's still alive I would like you to call and interview him. Thanks.

I think the challenge for any African youth is to see their heritage beyond a colonial lens, and unfortunately teachers like Maponga keep us within that framework. Its interesting how he and likeminded elders like to romanticize African culture and history before colonialism. The colonizer came with his ethnocentric lies and told us that the European and the African are nothing alike, that the european is better, hence the european justifiying his oppression. Unfortunately we continue to feed this lie, the continent of Africa was not a utopia, we carried the same human ambitions as the European. The only difference is the European manifested his ambitions with more intensity. The victims of Mfecane will tell you the truth of African history, or the Khoi and the San, who's ancestral land the Bantu have descecrated! Which ancestoral memory do we channel in this regard? We cannot always be talking about European cultural corruption, what about what we as Africans have done to each other? And what we continue to do to each other? Our anscetors killed each other and sold each other into slavery! Why do we not talk about these things? A lot of Africas problems stem from these unspoken histories! Lets have HONEST conversations about Africa and our history, please Sis Ntsiki...
