Had one of these as a kid, Went cruising almost every winter night on it after school, one night i almost hit a moose on it in the dark, my uncle took up the ditch for a ride one day and put it through the ice couldnt get it out till the weather warmed up enough we attached the quad to it and pulled it out hood was destroyed and the engine was seized i pulled the engine out for a rebuild and pulled the hood off to replace it well the years past and i never got around to it, my grandma called the scrap man to clean the junk vehicles from the yard and he took this sled to, i never ever got over it. I wish over all the other machines i had that i still had this one.
I have an 80' Jag 3000 that I got new when i was in third grade. I think it was around $1300 total from local Cat dealer. My top speed has always just been around 45 mph but when woods trail riding and running through our fields it was plenty fast enough. I had no trouble keeping up with anyone except on open roads. Since it was free you could put a little in it and have an awesome vintage rider.
I had one just like this sled my next door neighbor was moving to Tennessee and needed 150$ and he sold me the snowmobile 81 artic cat jag 440 and a 200cc Yamaha blaster the best deal I have ever got I rode every day after school I had it for years I bought new skis and I bought a new belt NGK spark plugs and I ended up putting ski spreaders on it most of my friends and Polaris Indy triples and one of my friends had a little Yamaha 250 enticer and another friend had a 74 rupp 400 with a rupp 400 now my dad me and my little brother have the 74 rupp 440 and a 94 Yamaha exciter 500 the Yamaha is pretty fast for what it is pulls the skis up for a few minutes
Pumping the throttle before starting it will not do anyting because this particular snowmobile does not have an accelerator pump. And you need to warm your snowmobile up a lot more than you did before you rev it up like you did when you first started it, or went for a ride. It was missing and bogging which means it's not warmed up. This can cause engine damage over time. I'm just trying to help. Nice snowmobile though. Ive got a 79 Jag and I love it.
I was "crying" while watching the beginning of this video.. I would never do this on mine ans it helps a lot to unstick skies and body from the snow before go.
@@pierre-olivierlemieux9592 Same here. Some of my riding buddies understand the importance of warming the machine up before ripping it. The other ones rebuild often 😂😂
Thanks for giving me some memories. This was my sled as a kid. Still have it in good condition, but unfortunately on the last ride out, blew a hole in the piston wall :( :( :( Hopefully I'll find a replacement engine for it some day. ~Xean45
@@204filmzzzz Wow, forgot about this post! Suppose time for an update. I got the sled off my dad, and found a 1979 340cc Jag engine to put in it. She rides again!!!
Hey man me, my dad, and my brother really like your vid and your Jag in fact we have two 1979 Artic Cat Jag 3000's. We haven't got to ride them yet because we just got them but we can't wait for the season to get here so we can try them out.
Does that have heated grips? I have a 1978 Jag 3000 F/A and it is the best! Though I am kind of having the same problem that you are with starting it... most of the time I have to use starting fluid to get if started.
