    You’ve made many good points. I have an independent radio station and have dealt with record labels and not in a good way. They have tried to control what is played. I’ve had to dump large amounts of content and start over many times. Now we only play music that had direct permission from the artist and it is so much better.

    My younger brother have talked about the music industry with me a couple of times and it so interesting (and scary!), he is making his own music and been determined to create his stuff alone. This made me think about Avicii and his story and I believe a lot of people woke up a little after watching his documentary. I love how social media gave us a voice and I truly hope everything will get better in the future. Great job on the video btw! I know that you worked hard on this and it shows! 👏🏻😍

    Indeed. Pop music as a whole made this big change in the early 90s. I grew up in the 70s and 80s and loved everything the radio had on it (within reason of course). Now, mind you, there was a ton of 1 hit wonders and songs that are classified 'cheesy' by today's standards but back then we didn't care. You hear a cool song, you want to hear it again, you bought the single/album. Pop, soul, country, funk, metal, new wave, even a little jazz here and there. Pop stations that were Top 40 oriented played it because it was POP-ular but now you have a metaphorical cookie cutter mass producing look alike, sound alike, same chord configurations.... It's a bit heartbreaking and depressing but if you were born after 1985ish odds are you won't get it. There are some that do, and God bless you for being here. Real music isn't dead, it's just well hidden... maybe one day someone will be jamming out to something that's going to grab your attention and not let go. If and when you do, ask that person "who is this? What's this song called?" That person can be your musical Obi-Wan Kenobi who wants to guide you to take that 1st step into a larger world because once you experience it, my long rambling here will make sense to you. 😉

    As someone older than you and that has seen the music industry get greedier and greedier and greedier probably most noticeable around the 80s, like you said manufacturing an illusion of what an artist should look like talk like dress like, basically a very subtle form of censorship, the music as a collective suffered in quality big time with some exceptions of course.
    You are very lucky and live in a renaissance were artist can start bringing new ideas to the table.
    You have a very nice channel kiddo, like Rue Paul constantly is saying " don't f27k it up " cheers from Canada!

    What is interesting is that J-POP and K-POP is still very much in this major label total control characters not real people 360 contract model and a significant portion of the western audience is into that manufactured product. So I think there is always some market for that hyper produced stuff. I personally enjoy music as a performer and not a song writer and my sphere is classical music which is very specific in respecting the composer’s instructions so personal expression of a particular performer is not nearly as straightforward as it is in singer songwriter pop music. So I don’t mind a hyper produced product but I would not want that control to extend beyond my music - my personality and values and my appearance are mine to control and i feel bad for all the artists past and present whose life was controlled in every aspect.

    • @loreenrass6008
      @loreenrass6008 Місяць тому

      Those who like kpop are into hyper manufactured music definitely. but one of the reasons kpop got so mainstream was because of BTS and they were most definitely not manufactured. Not to the same level atleast. Because they chose what they wanted to do, made their own music, etc. So id say everything with the exception of bts fans is people liking hyper manufactured pop stars. Jpop i cant speak for as i dont really know anything about it.

    I continue to be mindblown by the shift of early 00s popstar manufacturing to today's semi-self-made, and surprisingly adept musicians even though every song still fits a mold of what's the most mainstream sound. For example the video of Ariana Grande stacking her harmonies live on "Positions." Never in a million years could I imagine a Britney clone/anyone signed to Hollywood or Def Jam Records having that control and/or production talent. Western pop stars are seemingly thriving with artistry these days, and the factory has switched overseas to Asia particularly, with a repeat of horrid contracts and living conditions forced for K-Pop singers, maybe J-Pop too but I used to think they were more insular with their societal expectations/culture. But, I remain ignorant to how dark things in pop land still are regardless of better artistic freedom.

    just look what honesty and getting full control of yourself get bts to where they are now. being honest builds this sort of strong genuine bonds between fans and their music label (bighit) themselves letting them be who they want to be not a manifactured character on stage (the ceo said this and bts has a very good relationship with their ceo).
