@Rocstoneau You pull your low side knee against your thigh brace while pushing your high side foot against the foot brace. The faster you do this, the more "snap" you have in the motion. When you're in the setup position (torso turned 90° with your paddle parallel to the side of your kayak), the motion rotates your body and puts the kayak back under you. The paddle sweep is mostly just for added support, but there are people with powerful enough hip snaps that they can snap up without the use of a paddle.
