  • From Jay P Morgan,
    Today on The Slanted Lens we are going to show you how to make a smoke Tube of Death and then how to use it in our Cemetery Grave Digger shot. We will look at the camera settings and lighting we used to create our image. Finally, we will show how we created a low angle look from inside the grave. In our image we are going to want smoke all over the grave yard and be able to place it where we want it. A single source smoker emits from one place but a smoke Tube of Death allows us to place smoke in specific places. We brought in tomb stones for the shot which were placed in our back yard. The Tube of Death wove throughout the stones and created a curtain of smoke behind the scene.

    The only way that from-inside-the-grave shot could have been cooler would have been to put a sheet of transparent plexi over the top and get a shot of him with the lantern by his feet, with him tossing a shovel of dirt "on" you.
    This one has to be my favorite of all your tutorials, for those images alone. :)

    Gave me the idea to use both in once. chill the smoke trough the smoke tube and it would make a perfect sea shore upcoming mist (cause now you can give it a direction instead of let it fall and spread out it will come from left to right in a deeper span) and use a heater tube on shore so the mist will rise up again. and then maybe a evil mermaid ore other sea monster coming out ore going in to the sea water.
    Enjoyed the vid's

      Dan Francis Shooting with fog in an outdoor location is always tricky. I just did one last week and it was a struggle. Hope you were able to learn something from this tutorial for your next shoot.

      Thanks. The biggest issue i have had in the past is with the smoke getting too dense and you just get a bright blob instead of wispy smoke/fog.

    • @TheSlantedLens
      @TheSlantedLens  10 років тому

      You might be using the wrong type of fluid with your fogger, or just need to fan it a little more. I did a comparison of three different kinds from Rosco in this tutorial: Continuous Three Light Setup with Special Effects Lighting - Photography & Video Tutorial . Hope that helps.

    Can you tell us where, exactly, you got the Disposable Duct Tube plastic roll and the squirrel cage fan? "Home Improvement stores" are yielding no results for either and online sources are shockingly more expensive than seems necessary.

  • @chrisromain7912

    What size / HP squirrel cage motor did you use? Thanks so much in advance

    • @TheSlantedLens
      @TheSlantedLens  2 роки тому

      It is a small one horse power motor from Granger.

  • @MisterChips2012

    Do not cut into smoke tube, you run the chance of having the small hole turning into a large once. Simply use your propane torch to melt small holes in it, now if you want to close the hole, just shove a empty small disposable water bottle into the hole, I’ve even went as far as cutting slots in one side of the bottle making a directional nozzle, pull it and put a cap back on it and it’s now closed. Once the tube runs for a while it will get slimy and tape will not stick

  • @ghoultree
    @ghoultree Рік тому

    people watching this remember that most fog machines will create a lot of heat and will melt plastic tubes so start with a metal one to dissipate the heat

    • @TheSlantedLens
      @TheSlantedLens  Рік тому

      Great thought. The nozzle of the smoker is very hot. You either need air around it in the transition or a metal pipe.

    I've just "found you" and I am so excited! I have purchased some smoke bombs and I want to play with kids & skateboards, "Hot Babes in Stilletos" and some Bad Bikers and all the smoke. Think the smoke bombs will be cool enough to place inside the tube once it is inflated? at $25 per bomb (Enola Gaye www.enolagaye.com/cool-cold-burn-smoke-grenade/) I can't waste to many figuring this one out. I think I would rig a cage to prevent contact with the plastic. Thank You for all these terrific videos! Learning a ton!
