- From Frankenstein to Dracula and every creepy creature in between, where does our fascination with horror movies come from? Rich Koz, Chicago’s very own horror host and the man behind Svengoolie, gives us an inside look into the dark underworld that has held captive audiences for years.
I'm 50 and I still live for Saturday night watching svengoolie
🦇🕸️🎃👻☠️🤘
Me too
I remember in the 70s when Chicago has a dozen monster movies on tv every weekend including Svengoolie. good old days
@@PRHILL9696 - dope. Was born in ‘92 at Norwegian hospital in Humboldt Park, Chicago. Thanks for sharing.
31 here and started watching it last year when MeTV became my go to channel. My 10 month old son adores Svengoolie!
@tyrone jaquavious He also loves to watch Hogan's Heroes and will wake up out of a dead sleep to watch it! Hahahaha
My fellow [real] Chicagoans will always remember and hold Svengoolie in a special place in our hearts 🖤
New fan of Svengoolie here at 53. He cracks me up every Saturday night, also enjoy the biographies of the actors Svengoolie lays out. Never knew Mrs. Olson of the Folger's commercials was a movie actress back in the day until Sven mentioned it...that was not only interesting, it was also funny.
And let's not forget.........PERRY MASON! LOL! Every single actor seemed to be on that show back in the day.
Love you Rich koz(aka svengoolie) watch you every Saturday at 8:pm on metv television in Connecticut love all the movies, thank you so much ♥️🤗♥️🤗♥️
I’m 25 and I still look forward to Svengoolie every Saturday night

I love shows like these. When I was a little boy in the early 60's, it was hard to come up with things to do that I could share with my brother, who has Cerebral Palsy. There was a show similar to this, entitled Jeepers Creepers. I would build it up all week, waiting for Friday night and the scary movies. We just loved it, even when the movies were bad. Thank you for continuing this TV tradition!
i have watched Sven Ghoulie since I was a kid. I m glad he is still dodging those dead chickens!
Great piece, Rich! I think you covered every point for what makes us love and crave a good fright. And why we enjoy you as Svengoolie too!
The man is 64 years old, yet looks younger. Perhaps he really is a creature of the night, lol.
I thought so too. Way young looking
4 years later would make him 68!
Must be the makeup
This guy looks better with his makeup on.
I first saw svengoolie when I was smoking weed in Tucson Az living with my sister. I forget the movie but it was so cheesy and the atmosphere in my room was dark and perfect. To this day I still tune in on Saturdays. Cant wait for Kong escapes
I wish we had something like Svengoolie here on the east coast when I was growing up. The closest we had was a show on the local NBC affiliate that aired right after Saturday Night Live, and it was called Saturday Night Dead. It was hosted by Stella, the self-proclaimed Maneater Of Manayunk. It only aired from 1985 to about 1990, so it was a relatively short run. She came off like a 2nd-rate Elvira quite honestly, and there's been nothing to replace her, that is until I got Me TV on my cable subscription and discovered Svengoolie in recent years. His guest appearances on Toon In With Me are quite hilarious too! So now I have something to look forward to every Saturday night, and the Sventoonie spin-off that airs right afterward is quite funny as well! God bless you Rich Koz, and keep doing what you do!
Attention Svengoolie fans Sven is in the Dec 2018 Mad Magazine.
Love your show. Remember as a kid watching creature features and chiller theater out of NYC. Grew up in north Jersey. ME TV 📺 my favorite channel 👍‼️
I first heard of Rich Koz because he hosted 'Stooge-A-Palooza' on WCIU-26, every Saturday night from 7-9.
Too bad that show isn't on, anymore...
Goodbye screwy!
See ya in saint Louie!
Yes Rich, horror movies are like a roller coaster ride, so hold on !!! I'm grateful Sven is still around and international, and is a Rhondo award winner !
I need my MeTV!
Svangoolie keeping it real, he means serious business to horror movies and his show
Whereas I love these old Universal movies, I wish Svengoolie would also jump up a decade to the 50's Sci-Fi genre. I think there is so much more material in the 50's that I would love to be hosted by Svengoolie!!
He's played 70's movies lately at times, like Spielbergs first movie, Duel. Last movie he played was , it came from Beneath the Sea, about an octopus monster that body slams a ship.
He's played some early Godzilla movies before if I'm not mistaken
Im 36 & just became a fan. I feel like I just discovered el dorado.
I ❤️💓 okd b/w horror classics ~~ I miss all those Gr8 actors ~~~ Boris Karloff/ Bela Lugosi/ Lon Chaney Sr.& Jr. ☹️☹️💓💓🙏🙏/ March 9/ 22/ wed afternoon ~~~
Really enjoy your show. Corny lines in all!
Yo Rich you are a legend in Chicago!
yay i watch this just for svengooile
I watch Svengoolie every Saturday nights i am a svengoolie fan.
I just discovered svengoolie in the past 10 years. But during the mid 70s and early 80s here in Detroit, we had Sir Graves ghastly along with the ghoul.
3:58 - I'll have to admit, I never knew that Fay Wray was the size of a single-engine airplane before.
Koooool.. It's Chicken Man!! Mom let's me watch his show. He shows those spooky shows and tells those silly jokes. He's one of my heroesis
He looks better as Svengoolie.
I remember watching his shows on TV as a kid, and recently, far back as a few years ago I had the honor of getting an autograph, such a wonderful man! However, I'm sad cause I wish I could get an autographed rubber chicken :o
Universal used, and still uses, time honored cinematic techniques rooted in German Expressionism.

Sven and Elvira have appeared together at a convention.
So strange to see 'the man with the hat' without his hat and makeup
rich is the man.....he made being a kid scary and fun.
BTW IYO Isn't (The Shape of Water...2017) more like The Creature From The Black Lagoon? than say E.T.?
Berwyn !!!
I love sven saturdays
My mom hates spending I love sven
What is he a vampire or something else i means his character?
Voodoo priest hence the chicken
It's some dude with Sven's voice!!!!
Remember Marvin and dear sat. Night @ 10? Svengollie a knock. Off of that show.
Not like Big Chuck and Hoolihan/little John, Ghoulardi, The Ghoul, Super Dave Osborn, Super host.
To these great entertainers svengoolie can't hold a torch to them.
The narrator in this segment makes the classic mistake of calling the monster "Frankenstein". Frankenstein was his creator; the monster is Frankenstein's Creature.
Siir Graves Ghastly was better!
