@ NIkki & Steven please react to a series called THE ORIGINALS... it is a spin off of the series The Vampire dairies. However I love the originals more, it is more intense
I'm so glad you're enjoying the show, great reaction. Aethelwold knew about Sihtric staying back at the grave overnight because he was standing there when Uhtred told him to do it before they all split off to the graveyard.
@@ems7448 I've looked at some of his other roles and honestly? Osferth is definitely his out of character role. Several of his other roles are a lot more Aemond-y 😂
You hit the nail on the head. The fact you guys are so fired up about how Alfred is acting means the writers have got their hooks in ya. Fantastic writing. Annnnnd It just gets better with this actor as well. David Dawson is a legend.
I would suggest that the writing is poor. That Alfred and Aelswith behave as if the 2nd half of the 1st season didn't happen, a pagan woman didn't help to heal Alfred and save their son's and Uhtred the Godless didn't help to save their lives. I'd suggest that the writers had a problem: How do you keep the tension between Alfred and Uhtred that made the 1st season so successful after what they went through. For Alfred and Aelswith to not be changed by what they went through is awful writing. I want to keep watching the show but this lack of character development makes it difficult.
@@sirf4ce Nope, that's just how Christians reacted to other religions, the book specifically mentioned Alfred's behaviour changing when he was surrounded by priests.
A note about Alfred's wife, Aelswith, to give a bit of background as to why she dislikes Uhtred so much: The show never went into it, but in the first book of the series, when Uhtred was still a boy living with the Danes, the Mercian town that Aelswith was from was raided and her family was slaughtered. She was already married to Alfred at the time and so was not there, but it fostered a deep dislike and distrust of Danes within her. Ironically, the person who led the raid was actually Ragnar the Elder, and young Uhtred was with him on the raid, although he never mentions that fact to Aelswith as far as I recall.
A lot of reasons why the saxon characters in general dislike Danes aren't brought up in the show. I don't know if it's mentioned in the books either, but Alfred actually had a sister who was the queen on Mercia... until the Danes came and she was forced to flee England, and he likely never saw her again.
@@loveoffilm4327 Lesser or better men? It's complicated, not black and white On one side, someone could see a man who continues to serve his king even after his son's death as honorable and loyal, and on the other side, one can see it as cowardice and lack of love to support the man who was responsible for your son's death more or less.

"Aethel" was basically like a Royal Family name, it basically translated as "noble" and was widely used throughout Anglo-Saxon Britain . By the 9th century (when The Last Kingdom is set) the prefix "Aethel" was almost exclusively reserved for the royal line of Wessex, whose family line by then was even known as the "Aethelings". There were some obvious exceptions however, such as Aethelred of Mercia (who was almost certainly not the horrible man he is depicted as in this show - the real Aethelred of Mercia seems to have been a good leader of Mercia during an extremely turbulent period and helped King Alfred keep invaders far from the borders of Wessex. It is worth pointing out also that the Lady of Mercia, Aethelflaed, specifically requested she be buried beside her long deceased husband Aethelred, so they must've not hated each other too badly!
Haha I was waiting for you guys to run into Aemond. This is the first show I saw him in, and I became very hyped knowing he'd be in House of the Dragons.

I haven't watched this season in a long time. Even though he's frustrating, Aflred is not wrong. Uhtred is kind of telling half truths but he still remains loyal. That's what makes it so good. Alfred can't let go of the fact that Uhtred is a pagan and therefore can never truly trust him. Uhtred is loyal to Alfred but is constantly wondering why because Aflred keeps thinking he's going to betray him, and on it goes.

I get your frustration with Alfred but he is in charge of the entire country/region. The fact that the vikings refer to Uhtred as king is a play on the vikings part that knows it would make Alfred rethink his trust. Also GOD is on a pedestal above all else in this period and Uhtred again is not a Christian he is a Pagan. Alfred is mixed with uncertainty and frustration because if he would just accept GOD then there would be no problem but Alfred and his legacy is depending on HOPE that Uhtred stays trustworthy.
