  • Written in the second person, directly addressing his mother, “Heavy” chronicles author Kiese Laymon’s life from his boyhood in poverty-stricken Jackson, Mississippi to an adulthood spent on prestigious college campuses. The award-winning novel is at once a coming-of-age story and a searing condemnation of the racism and misogyny that perforate the fabric of this country. It’s a story of the power of education, the complexities of family dynamics, and the realities of what it means to be a Black man in America.

Thanks Ali Velshi for another author featured in Banned Book Club. New author and book for me. Great interview. Really appreciate his effort to examine and explain patriarchy. James Baldwin 😊. Banning books 📚 is so wrong and disturbing for those "written out"...we need to do better.

These books are available at your local bookstore = not banned. Just like movies "Rated R", some material isn't appropriate for children. Not "banned" just "inappropriate" you silly clowns.

Somebody has a book out there. The last white man. Are they going to do a spin-off of the last black man? Where everybody turns white, how would that be racist?

It took some tough love for both G. Floyd and Hunter to stop smoking narcotics. They both are/were convicted junkies.
