Nelson Mandela said “if you talk to a man in a language he understands, that goes to his head. If you talk to him in his own language, that goes to his heart.”
Thank you for sharing your experiences they have helped me and my family make our decision to move to South Africa. We will still visit countries throughout the continent once we move. Just to mention America has load shedding as well. We have lived in US Virgin Islands and Puerto Rico which are apart of the United States and outlying islands and we experience load shedding and it is not scheduled as it is in South Africa, many people may be surprised that load shedding exist in the United States but it does. Both islands are beautiful, but Puerto Rico is the most affordable for expats that need a break from mainland United States, and saving to get to Africa. Learn some Spanish because that is the 1st language spoken in Puerto Rico, but they speak English as well. So family if you need to save but don't want to deal with the stress of mainland US while you save think of Puerto Rico! Until you can get to Africa!
Thank you for mentioning load shedding in the US. There’s a lady for Virginia who stays In Johannesburg and has mentioned how we complain about things that happen all over the world and load shedding was one of them which she’s experienced numerous times, no power for days due to numerous things. So yes, you’re one of the many Americans who don’t find these issues too unfamiliar or foreign that we face.
I get the sense that you deeply appreciate both cities for different reasons. How each city has risen to meet whatever needs you may have had in the different seasons you've had whilst on the continent. Thank you for a well thought out and articulated video, love from JHB.
You are fire. You give us hope, love and light. I'm glad because I've had a privilege to unexpectedly meet you in person and to realize you're as real as on social media. We are blessed and inspired to have people like you. We love you. Proudly South African.
Tanzania is a massive country with many tribes maybe this wasn't visible in Dar, there are over 50 languages spoken across 4 or more language families.
I live in Johannesburg. Yes our city is not perfect but I wouldn't want to live anywhere else at this stage of my life. My goal is to retire to my homeland (still in South Africa) as the cost of living is much cheaper there. NB: Where I live in Johannesburg, we do not experience loadshedding or water shortage. It's an hour away from the city and life is good. Thanks for your unbiased opinion of both countries.
This is a typical question I heard while spending many years in Mexico and other countries, but I'll still ask it. How do you realistically describe crime risk in JoBerg? Also, how is it outside of the city (30-60 minutes out)? Is land (10-100 acres readily available outside the city?) Thank you.
Hi Ashley......your approach and sense of connecting with people and appreciating their uniqueness is s a breath of fresh air. I think this woman was not ready for a complete change, you liked South Africa because its more like the West where you grew up!! This proves that you can’t fully get away from who you are exactly!! Tanzania is still way more traditional than SA!
Excuse me each country has it's traditions and cultures specific to it. We are popularly known as a rainbow nation which means we have various cultures and we accept and embraces the differences shared within those cultures. Some of those are African cultures, Western cultures and Eastern cultures. The westerners and easterners due to naturalisation are here so does that mean they should not recognize their own cultures. Jan Van Reebeck and Simone Van De Stel could not take a break from the sea by stopping in Tanzania because it is not en route with the spices they seemed in the East.

I always enjoy your presentations and I love the fact that you always take time to research and prepare some points before you record your videos. Now I know Southies can be quite intense on social media, but I do think that when it comes to politics you should not be too hesitant to touch some of the topics. Of course do your diligent research as you always do and maybe approach things from an angle of trying to learn more. People can sometimes fall into a trap of getting into a country, listening to one extremist and then taking whatever narrative they were fed and going with it. As a result end up spreading misinformation and receiving all the backlash. I think that if there's anyone that would know just how to handle some of the sensitive topics without upsetting everyone and getting cancelled😅, it's you. But... maybe it doesn't even align with your brand. I do encourage you to learn more though and have those conversations with your close friends. We consider you one of us at this point❤
@mfezekoMatshoba Well said, you have simplified what I wanted to comment on. Information can be distorted without you knowing. That is the reason we are where we are today. It should not have taken this for Americans and others outside Africa to know the truth about the continent. I'm a bit concerned about africans in the continent, what Ashley alluded earlier in one of her videos, "colonising Africa" The enemy did a good job in executing her plan (segregating Africa) WAKE UP AFRICA 🌍 and the rest of other Africans outside Africa. YOUR TIME IS NOW. This opportunity will not present itself again. Let us stop furthering chaos than what it is. Above all, let us be truthful with our conduct in everything we do. Let's practice what is good and with that only, Africa will thrive. Let us be realistic and be honest. I understand this is a wide and deep wound and can take years to heal. The sooner we wake up, the sooner we'll be free from our own slavery. Let's stop talking petty issues who is better who is not.....
Beautiful video, and you're a brave, beautiful, and intelligent woman. You are Mandela's and this country's dream come true, if you're to watch his CNN in studio interview after his release. He's always championed education and was begging as we all were as a country that educated and productive African Americans should move to S.A. and assist in equipping us with skills needed to thrive and advance the economy we inherited from the old guard. I love your messaging, and would like to THANK YOU for choosing us and encouraging others like you to come and assist us in building a far more formidable South Africa.

Again, it's good to see that tou are still happy and doing so well in South Africa.
I actually agree with you dawg. I been to SA a few times l love that place. I am from Zimbabwe l find that a lotta South Africans are just nice people in general. I love that country
As as S An , i noticed that black American are so flexible that they easily adapt to culture of the country in a matter of days , like this gal . She is completely new in SA , but she can pick up some words from our languages ,unlike most of our own brothers and sisters from this continent , we lived with them for almost 30 yrs , but don't utter or understand a single word from our languages.... Welcome in Mzantsi humble and honest people.......Aluta Continuoa.
This is so dishonest. There are many African immigrants who have assimilated into South African cultures and speak either Zulu or even Sesotho. Zimbabweans particularly excel in this despite their different accent. Malawians speak our languages. Mozambicans speak our languages. It's actually a given when it comes to Southern Africans. West Africans may be a bit of an outlier but I have come across East Africans such as Somalis and Ethiopians who have adapted to local lingos as well as Central Africans such as the Congolese mainly. I believe we can commend Ashely, as an American woman, without throwing other Africans under the bus and making disingenuous arguments because even some South Africans themselves barely learn other local languages. Do not even get me started on white South Africans. It really just depends on someone. You may not be aware of this, but there are also many Americans who struggle to adapt or assimilate when in foreign countries (including that of Africa). I wouldn't pedestalize them in spite of appreciating their efforts to integrate in our societies, whether it is Ghana, Tanzania, Kenya, Sierra Leone or right here in South Africa.
Welcome Ash❤ I feel like every country has its own problems but you can always find yourself and your way in South Ah as long as you pushing you biz with dedication.
Hi Ashley. I think you wanted to mean there weren't so many tribal languages spoken in Tanzania as compared to South Africa. Tanzania has over 100 tribes but you will find that only the older generations are able to speak indigenous languages. The rest of the population only speak swahili. I think the medium of instruction in Tanzania is swahili if am not mistaken hence many people do not speak English save for a few young ones. In SA, there are a few tribes and people still speak indigenous languages while English is the medium of education in most schools. Here you will find almost everybody speaking more than two languages including English hence it is easier for foreigners to communicate, find their way and not feel so isolated. So for SAns wanting to visit Tanzania (Tz) try to learn some basic swahili. You will be okay.
The medium of instruction in schools is English except that it is not stressed enough and the standard is very poor. We learn all subjects in English except Swahili subject. Chemistry, Biology, Accounts, Physics, Economics, etc, etc are all taught in English!!
@@davidngwesa oh. Even in Primary schools? By the way, I started my primary school in Tanzania in the mid 70s up to standard 4 and we were being taught everything in kiswahili. Has it changed now?
@@franmdleleni6520 In public primary schools all subjects are taught in Swahili, of course, except the English subject. However, in secondary schools all subjects are taught in English except the Swahili subject. It's a different story atogether with private primary schools which have emphasis on the English language as the medium of instruction, which most Tanzanians can't afford. The standard of English is generally poor in Tz though. Most people can get by with English but can't hold a discussion or serious debate in it, even uni graduates.

@1Marasa Every nation in South Africa has several "tribes" the 11 languages are just standardised languages, it doesn't mean that we speak only 11 languages or are 11 ethnic groups.
@1Marasa I do not know where this is going but out of the estimated 371 groups in Nigeria, only 6 are unique to it. Big population, greater numbers. Congo and Cameroon are both over 200 peoples. How many ethnic groups are unique to Tanzania in that 120? (out of curiosity)

Europeans look for places where they can have as much power as possible and build everything according to their taste. Africans are attracted to places where everything has been made as easy as possible for them. Don't be angry, that's how it is. We need to develop a passion for building from nothing and owning land, the economy, the technology, the know-how etc. Talk is always cheap, but when it's time to build, you realize that being uncomfortable is too tough.

@@jehbuhdieyaspringfield7290 We built and we still build every day. Africa is a huge continent. You sound hurt by the truth. Do you even have a village of your own anywhere? Talk is cheap.
Simple reason is South Africa is the closest thing to a westernized developed country where you have the amenities and comfort of white man country but surrounded by black people. So you feel at home and you don’t miss anything from the USA
So the favoured part of Sub Saharan Africa is the only place where White people still have a notable sized population? Doesn't sound like real Africa.. Sounds like a place in Africa that was heavily developed by Whites (although it's falling)
The large non black minority population sets SA apart . The colonial developments and European influence has made SA no.1 in Africa . Not what blacks want to hear , but the truth .

Re a leboga for learning our Language… this is wonderful to see… South Africa 🇿🇦 our beautiful country
I"m a south african. Damn the things you are saying are accurate, they are super accurate. Your presentation is awesome.
You are a fantastic woman. Keep up your great work. And your place of home is where your heart is at, no matter what. I admire you 🇹🇿 🇹🇿.
Thank you so much!
Thanks for sharing your perspective. It’s extremely valuable.
When I think of load shedding I always think of California and Texas. Especially Texas in the summer and the winter. The two worst times.
Really?
I get the sense that you deeply appreciate both cities for different reasons. How each city has risen to meet whatever needs you may have had in the different seasons you've had whilst on the continent. Thank you for a well thought out and articulated video, love from JHB.
Yes, very true. Thank you so much.
Where in JHB if I may ask?
This is a typical question I heard while spending many years in Mexico and other countries, but I'll still ask it.
How do you realistically describe crime risk in JoBerg? Also, how is it outside of the city (30-60 minutes out)?
Is land (10-100 acres readily available outside the city?)
Thank you.
I wonder where that is
Hi Ashley......your approach and sense of connecting with people and appreciating their uniqueness is s a breath of fresh air. I feel there is a lot more exciting stuff to come from your initiative of bridge-building, in the near future!!!

What about Nigeria or other West African countries. Many Black Americans came from those areas during the slave trade.

@mfezekoMatshoba
Well said, you have simplified what I wanted to comment on. Information can be distorted without you knowing. That is the reason we are where we are today. It should not have taken this for Americans and others outside Africa to know the truth about the continent. I'm a bit concerned about africans in the continent, what Ashley alluded earlier in one of her videos, "colonising Africa"
The enemy did a good job in executing her plan (segregating Africa)
WAKE UP AFRICA 🌍 and the rest of other Africans outside Africa.
Hi am glad you highlighted greeting. It's the first step in winning in African in general.

Mmhhh west african though in the comments yourell are haters

We love you Ashley, God bless you more
I find it interesting that you chose South Africa while us citizens consider South Africa to be on limp mode essentially. With all the shortcomings we have like loadshedimg etc but you still chose South Africa.
You are surely going to reap the rewards when we inevitably turn the corner. South Africa is already projected to be Africa's biggest economy during the latter stages of next year taking over from Nigeria and Egypt respectively who are currently the largest and second largest economies in the continent.
Perspective from people that come from abroad is always different, that is why we have such an influx of people coming from the West, especially given the geo political shift taking place in the world. My friends from the US continuously say that would choose SA any day with all its issues. Life is better here than where they come from, successful as they were in the US, they choose SA

How’s the weather in South Africa? Remember Tanzania is a tropical country that might not experience four seasons. South Africa get very cold in winter and when you experience loadshedding , it can be very uncomfortable. Wouldn’t you agree?
Tanzania has more tribes than south africa...and probably most countries in Africa. More than 120 tribes..Its just that Tanzania united people under swahili.
This makes so much sense. Thank you for clarifying this.
@1Marasa Every nation in South Africa has several "tribes" the 11 languages are just standardised languages, it doesn't mean that we speak only 11 languages or are 11 ethnic groups.
@lebo5281 true... but only afew africa countries have over 100 tribes. Nigeria leading

Lonely Planet's "Best in Travel 2024" list showcases 10 travel destinations across four categories: countries, cities, sustainability, and value.
Nairobi claimed the top spot in the cities rankings, followed by Paris (France) and Montreal (Canada) respectively. The cities of Mostar in Bosnia and Philadelphia (USA) completed the prestigious top five list.
No one cares about Kunyans or Nairoberry for that matter 🤣
Yes. It is good that an African city has topped the list. Kenya hosts other UN offices eg UNEP and Habitat. Am visiting this December. But all the hype about this will make prices go up, tourist prices in Nairobi. I love Nairobi and also love my Cape Town. Two different cities which are unique in their own ways.

You are right. African americans come to only settle in the most developed parts of Africa. But here you will find the Chinese even in the most rural parts of Kenya building roads
@@lindamusimbi3377 Then they claim they built America and they are so good at building everything. Please, they don't even know where to start... Welcome, SA is your home.
Simple reason is South Africa is the closest thing to a westernized developed country where you have the amenities and comfort of white man country but surrounded by black people. So you feel at home and you don’t miss anything from the USA
Well yes that is not going to last and is only in small pockets of the country
So the favoured part of Sub Saharan Africa is the only place where White people still have a notable sized population? Doesn't sound like real Africa.. Sounds like a place in Africa that was heavily developed by Whites (although it's falling)

The large non black minority population sets SA apart . The colonial developments and European influence has made SA no.1 in Africa . Not what blacks want to hear , but the truth .
