I think it's a failsafe mechanic. The rockcrackers probably didn't have a suitable place to land (or planned to land where the Drilldozer was currently). And so the best solution to preventing a softlock is to just delete the meteor. I had it happen to me too on a mining expedition in Salt Pits. Was extremely confusing to experience.

rapidly alternate between your deposit and pickaxe buttons, i however use a macro
@rxlcs I attempted it by spamming weapon changes deposit but that definitely sounds more consistent. I'll give it a shot!
