Just got mine in! Love it so far hands down one of the most gorgeous MP figs! Unpopular opinion, I prefer the unpainted plastic. Shockwave was perfect imo as there’s no paint chipping issues. Out of the box mine had multiple areas of paint that had chipped off before transformation or sloppily touched up at the factory.
Nah, MP-29+ Shockwave is no much better in hand than MP-29 due specifically to the paint app mate! The paint app I think gives them a more solid and bright look, whereas the plastic seems almost dull in comparison. That's why the MP-20+ Wheeljack looks so much better too! But yes, completely agree that paint chipping is a major pain in the arse.
@@KoolKollectibles oh I agree they look absolutely gorgeous but for a figure than folds in on itself and pegs in with fully painted pieces I’m not sure if it’s the best approach. Then again I’m crazy I’d go for non transforming figures fully toon accurate at the same size and I’d have no problem with them being fully painted!
I love that all these 'Masterpiece' figures are made and exist, no matter which model they are. I only have a few so far, and hope to build up my collection. The Starscream I have is the MP-07 (a Toys 'R' Us exclusive), so not sure if that's a popular version, but I'm grateful to have him.

Thanks for this, mate, the best MP-52 review I've seen that gives a comparison with the old mold, exactly what I needed. Time to save up to replace my MP-11!
Awesome reveiw as always, these new MP's are really representing these figs on a new level finally the accuracy part and engineering. Its painted, more accessories ang has die-cast. My only gripe as you said is, I just hope they would equally upgrade the plastic quality, I mean you can always feel a good quality plastic from cheap one.
I'm probably gonna wait roughly 2 months before I'm gonna buy one. Just gonna wait until the QC improves after the 1st batch (which to their credit usually does). MP-52 is definitely one of the best Starscream figures in recent memory. When it comes to seekers I'm usually a Starscream-only kind of guy. But this mold is so good that I'm probably gonna get the other MP-52 seekers too.
Yeah, I've got my preorders in for TC and SW. Hopefully no cracking issues with those repaints. Are you sure Takara release multiple batches? I thought reissues were becoming few and far between now.....
Got mine last week. Transformation is pretty smooth. It’s Masterpiece Starscream done right. Definitely worth the dough, IMHO. The claw and the meteorite piece were from the episode “cosmic rust” where he pulled the rock lodged on Megatron's chest after which he announced "unfortunately, the operation is successful" LoL oh, Starscream! 😆
I know its older video and in modern times, old for the toy too. Not to me. Got him not too long ago. I have to say he is absolutely amazing.! Reviews tend to be so negative with him. In hand, man does knock it way out the patk. The darker tone isnt so dark, and in hand, he seems way more sturdy and well built in general than I expected. see a lot of fans hating on toon accuracy these days. In my opinion, its the way to go. Its harder for them to make a figure thats strict to G1 toon accurate. Also, I dont understand why you would want a figure that doesnt look like the character? Unless you aren't as old as myself, and modern Transformers is your reference. God forbid the horribly ugly as F, Bayverse. Well to each their own as G1 is my favorite, and others have theirs. I respect that (respect they like being wrong!) Lol....
The other one is Deformation Space and it's MP scaled. I still think this looks better overall, but I imagine the DS one will be less than half the price and it's not a million miles away from MP-52, so it could make for a good option. I wasn't even gonna get this on account of the silly asking price, but then I saw the first reviews and caved. Also went in on Skywarrp and Thundercracker.
I'm currently in on the MakeToys set, but have already put down a deposit on the DSS-01 piece you mentioned. Depending on what happens from there, I may move toward the Takara set. But like Khai mentioned, I'm not sure if Takara is going to do a newly improved batch of MP-52, even if they improve the next two. So, my lineup is likely to be mixed.
Pretty risky putting deposit on a figure when they haven't shown transformation or jet mode yet! My ocd couldn't handle a mix, so I'd pick one consistent company for all seekers.
@@KoolKollectibles It was a dollar. I've really come to agree with you about this of late though. Any retailer who asks for more than a few bucks to hold my spot just isn't operating in a way that I can work with. I plan to call TF Source soon and find out if the QC issues are mostly the result of either the size of the run, the price of the figure making people feel indignant or merit. Because I want to revamp my Seekers, but like you said, I do *not* want to mix, at least, not outside of having one set of Seekers and one set of Coneheads. But even that seems irritating to me.
Thanks for checking it out mate! Yeah these larger MPs are pretty expensive these days. Luckily they're listed for preorder months in advance so I manage to save up enough long the way.
If you didnt mind the "sword scabards" the MP02 or 3 (i think) had it was a great figure it was the cleanest jet mode anyway and if you didnt like the kibble there was a fan mod that fixed them which i did myself and was very happy with . Plus the US store exclusive paint job was awesome too
Totally agree. Best Starscream. Amazing figure. Only sucks that the qc issues are a bit crappy. But all in all a great figure. You always have People that complain mate. But this figure isnt what these People say. It is amazing and looks super toon accurate
Ah yes, that's the one! I actually went back to try and watch some episodes with my kids, but they really didnt age well! I think I'll keep them in my childhood memories instead now lol
Awesome review! If I’m correct, you previously had a different channel. I remember you reviewing 20th anniversary masterpiece Optimus prime and comparing it to the Takara version. I recognize your voice! But I could be wrong. Oh well, awesome review!
Certainly more sleeker looking from the side and underneath. But from most viewing angles that I like on top or angled on the side, I think MP-52 looks better in jet mode. The paint app and panel detail looks better overall due to that extra pop.
@@KoolKollectibles i have both. Just my opinion. The new robot mode does look 100 times better. I do think it sucks that it will be difficult to buy the new coronation set.
The MP-11 looks like a War for Cybertron: Earthrise Starscream figure next to the MP-52, lol. That being said, it's far from perfect. If it weren't for all of the QC issues, this could've been an epic figure in the Masterpiece line. Shame.
Yeah, luckily mine doesn't have any major issues. Definitely a shame with figures like Hound and Starscream that they're amazing design is tarnished with production issues.
Holy Christ....that side by side comparison. Are you sure that’s MP11??? Lmao. Man, what I remember in my head does NOT match what I see with the actual product.
Yeah, MP-11 was great for its time for sure. But it really does pale into comparison with MP-52 lol. I guess that should be expected for two figures 10 years apart. Shame I never got the Meteor figure, but I dont think that looks as good as MP-52 either. I prefer the design choices by Takara.
Noone in their right mind would pay AUD$500 for this. I certainly didnt. If you buy from the big reputable Asian retailers out of Japan, HK, or Singapore, you can get this figure for about AUD$300. That's around what I paid shipped to my door.
Ouch! I wouldnt be buying anything from Pop Culture other than Sideshow or Hot Toys figures, or larger scale statues. The prices for those tend to be cheaper than overseas. But pretty much everything else they sell is far more expensive than overseas. I didnt even know they were selling MPs these days. But I would highly recommend the big reputable Asian retailers - MPs are their bread and butter!
It was their design choice to have both cockpits to have the best proportions in both jet mode and bot mode. That's exactly why I think their bot mode looks far better than any Starscream figure before.
Incorrect. This is Masterpiece G1 Starscream 3.0. The box lies. MP-3 Masterpiece G1 Starscream is version 1, MP-11 Masterpiece G1 Starscream is version 2 and MP-52 Masterpiece G1 Starscream is version 3.
Takara does not think of MP-3 and MP-11 as two separate releases. They are essentially retooled designs of each other. That's why they've labelled MP-52 as 2.0, being the complete new redesign.
@@TheRealDustinNunn It likely benefits them from a marketing exercise to not acknowledge that they have made four Masterpiece Starscream figures and even more Optimus Prime releases. But I also don't think it matters what we call it.
