As a South African, while Africa produces tons of films a year, I think the rest of Africa should take a page from our book at least- if not from Europe or Hollywood- and realize that quantity and quality aren't the same thing.

I'm from Switzerland and do speak 3 languages so I'm kind of multilingual too. But not every one is learning norwegian now so it would be kind of convenient if there would be english subtitles. But I do understand parts of the show, because its a germanic language too.

I'm studying Norwegian and I'm using TVNorge's videos as listening comprehension practice. Quit complaining, it's not their job to cater to you if you can't be bothered to acquire a skill like understanding Norwegian. I'm glad I understand it pretty alright now and I can reap the benefits of my work by understanding what you guys can't :)

TVNorge is a Norwegian TV channel. I don't think its only 1 person wish is posting all these videos.

For english subtitles for Ylvis' videos, search for "Ylvis Facebookies" in youtube. Its a great channel

I'll be honest, I can't understand why that would upset anyone. Adding subtitles wouldn't hurt "our" (whose is it, did you say?) show in any way, and on UA-cam you can easily put subtitles in different languages so you can choose yourself.
    I'm Norwegian btw.

I wish the audio was clearer. There's such a large english speaking audience subbed to this channel now, and they speak english a lot here. Or at least put english subtitles as annotations.

No, I mean the most spoken dialect in Norway is the Oslo and Osloish one, so if you want to learn Norwegian (except if you're specificly fascinated by western norwegian dialects) you should listen to the Oslo one.

  • @shefallsasleep0

But this is TVNorge (TVNorway), a norwegian TV channel. This was on TV, and they just have a youtube channel for people norwegian people to watch if they didn't see the episode or just watch again. Subtitle would just be annoying on TV. They could put it on the youtube videos, but subscribers are not where they make money. They make their money on the actual channel in Norway.
I don't mind them putting subtitles on, I just don't think they will.

If you simply do a UA-cam search for 'Ylvis English sub', you'll get a list of subtitled Ylvis videos. It's not that hard.
But yes - tvnorge should have done it themselves as well at this point.

But the audience is now global. I would say thats wider than Norway alone. It makes sense to start providing options to international viewers. English is the most commonly spoken language in the world, and I would watch a lot more of their stuff if their were English subtitles.

TVNorge please do English subtitles sometime...if I have to I'll learn Norwegian but PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE!!! Make English subs

  • @Pakanahymni
    @Pakanahymni 11 років тому

Yes exactly, the most spoken. Most Norwegians I know are Bergensere so it makes sense why I want to listen to this.
Anyway no dialect is better or worse for language learning than the other and learning to listen and appreciate various dialects instead of just catering to the "main" or "standard" dialect is healthy.

love these guys, and I think its brilliant idea for a show. I get that norwegian people are proud and that maybe it would be fair for me to take half year of my time to learn norwegian...
but I still hope it wouldn't come to that :)
and by the way, if this channel won't do subs, then maybe someone else will... I believe that tvnorge deserve these views more than ayone.. and they just have to take them :)

I think what Rytis is advising is quite good tbh, I mean, they want to make money right? And the English market is a lot larger than the Norwegian market. It's a good opportunity for them to make a breakthrough. Plus it also brings pride for Norwegians as a whole!

I agree with both of you, and plan to follow your advice. I'd refer you to another Ylvis video but my 500 likes have been relatively superceded by more recent comments about The Fox. I had over 500 for a claim that I would learn Norwegian just for Ylvis. I plan to purchase a book hopefully this week or next, depending on the availability of Korean books on Norwegian.

they speak a Bergen dialect tho, which uses some words and a bit of a sentence structure different to most of Norway, native Norwegians comprehend this very well but it might not be the best if you want to learn typical Norwegian.
