    Ten years ago, if you told someone that SpaceX would send people into space, they might have laughed at you. It sounds absurd, but now, it's a reality. People can venture into space and come back, saying to others, “Well, I've been to space. I've done something only about 600 people in human history have accomplished.”
    And that's not the only thing SpaceX has achieved.
    SpaceX opens up Starship ERA shocked the entire industry!
    They have even accomplished much more, including even bigger goals with their gigantic Starship.
    A year ago, SpaceX launched the first fully integrated Starship rocket, which marks the beginning of the Starship era of spaceflight. Although that mission was not 100% successful, this new era is truly changing the way people view the future of heavy-lift rockets.
    So how did Starship open a new era for the space industry?

    Starship was blown up 3 times, due to loss of operational functionality. It was a safety measure to reduce public hazard, rather than a random operational variation.

      It's already successful though, the booster did the job boosters have been doing all along. The 2nd stage made it to orbit, though with issues. But for something this big and how quickly and 'low cost' it has been built compared to other large vehicles it is running circles around the other companies. If it were used a fully expendable setup for a while until the bugs are worked it would dwarf anything else being built.

    I still doubt that starship can do thousand trips to moon or mars, since it need multiple refueling up to 8-20x on space.
    That is too complex and risky.

      I don't think you should worry too much about that, because I always feel success comes from SpaceX, and there are too many examples of this.

    Its ashamed we dont have a heat resistant material that could be aplyed like a liquid foam but hardens enough to withstand the harsh re-entry ,, the tiles dont seem to be working. But if i know elon he will figure it out

    Musk has said something over and over again that I have taken to heart. The best part is no part. When I look at Starship parts are all I see. Of course I know nothing about building a rocket. I would have trouble putting my Grandkids bikes together but every time I look at Starship I see more parts rather than fewer parts. I see more things to break on its very long journey. Every time one thing is fixed there are more parts to break. Someone tell me I’m wrong please. Even with all the parts I think it’s the most beautiful thing I’ve ever seen.

      SpaceX obviously knows more about building rockets than I do. Therefore, I'm not qualified to offer any suggestions to SpaceX. So, what do I do? I keep my mouth shut and I don't bitch about what's wrong with something unless I have a reasonable solution to the problem.

      To be a closer comparison compare Dragon and Starliner. Boeing has made their system complex, lots of covers to flip open or pop off, pieces to eject before something under pops out does its thing. Watching their animation of the capsule going through a mission was, to me, overly complex. Then look at Dragon, yes it has some pieces that need to open or be popped off, but fewer than Boing's.
      But for Starship the parts you see are needed. Those are on other rockets, it's just that on Starship more bits are visible outside or are incorporated in stage 0. You think it's complex now wait until it needs life support systems added! 🙂

    How many tiles will fall off the starship during the fourth launch? You should start a betting pool! The key point here is said after four years, this heat shield design is not finished. If the heat shield cannot be made to work reliably and stay completely intact from one launch to the next, the starship will never be “rapidly reusable”! if the starship is not rapidly reusable and requires significant repairs to T shield after every re-entry, refueling in space is off the table, going to the moon is off the table, and going to Mars is off the table. What is the point of starship if it’s not rapidly reusable? The answer is not much.

      Dumb statement.
      "design is not finished" is not the same as "will never be rapidly reusable" it just means they haven't perfected the technology, yet.
      There's only one reentry with a moon mission so even without tiles that can last multiple missions I don't see why that would mean a Moon mission is impossible.

      @@danielkrcmar5395 rapid reusability is the only really unique thing that starship is meant to deliver. SpaceX has had four years to develop a heat tile solution and yet they still continue to fall off during launch. I think it is entirely possible that with current materials creating a heat shield that can actually achieve rapid reusability without major repairs after every reentry may be infeasible. I suspect that you will probably be betting on the low side of the number of tiles is fall off during the next launch. One thing I would really like to see is the test rig that SpaceX is using to develop the heat tiles. I haven’t seen any pictures of this and I haven’t heard of any results of their test using such a rig. Why not?

    For deep space, a ship with chemical engines is not enough. A sprinter can theoretically run a marathon, but is it worth it?
    In order to confidently explore space, it is necessary to have powerful energy, transport that does not require megatons of fuel from Earth, fully autonomous life support systems and full-profile medical centers. None of this exists and in fact is not planned.

    Reality Check…
    On that image of 1000 Starshios going to the Moon, you need 10 launches per vehicle for refueling. So, in 2 weeks, 25,000 Starship/Booster launches.
    All this for a 6 month trip? Here is the truth… Starship is notntaking humans to Mars with checmical rockets. That will take place when the transfer is 5/6 weeks. Starship could mayne take the nuclear rocket that will do it. It this whole architecture is ridiculous. Its Apollo plus Ipads and reusable which means non staging which makes it even less efficient.
    Starship will be good to take stuff to LEO, humans to the Moon but for humans to Mars, forget aboht it.

    Too bad SpaceX is too busy working at it, to cough up a regular report.
    I did see an animation of the tumble last test flight, so was able to see it didn't just get turned bass ackwards and locked rump forward, but in fact took a serious tumble.
    One of the Mercury Capsules did the same thing, but by luck was gotten under control again.
    I suspect the cause is hitting thin upper atmosphere at near orbital velocity speeds. and with craft that have low passive stability shapes.
    Basically a problem/potential dichotomy, that suggests theres some usable viscosity for control and lifting surfaces.
    Elon's Tube Nerds will want to upgrade the flappers to get better V shape surface area for stabilization, and probably increase areas, and maybe add better control systems than the current wigglers...
    And I am hearing chatter now about "Other" re-entry trajectories, including for NASA, and the Military, So feel vindicated for several years of related online writs in comments.
    So maybe we are nearing the beginning thoughts on better hull shapes and lifting strategies than these glorified Bamboo tube descendents...
    Also perhaps if done well, and enough thin air glide ratio could be produced, maybe allow elimination of those riveted on hexagonal flat rocks. which would drop Ship's parts count by about 18K.
    One suspects eventually some genius will realize the hull would be better widened and rudamentary wings blended in to create a better re-entry shape, and more pleasant aesthetics inside and out for the Space monkeys.
    That might lead to something I wrote about maybe a year or so back: the potential of lobed tank designs with some internal connecting struts.
    One could design a double wide or triple wide booster, where they had a common tank for Methane and another for Oxy, and if each tank pretended to be say 10 meters in diameter, you could get a Pan pipes effect like Falcon heavy, but all joined Siamese style.
    And so get a tank roughly ten meters by maybe 24 meters and however tall, and be able to mount a wider ship on the booster that created, and fly it.
    Its not as near perfect as round tube on volume to surface area, but we have way more powerful engines now, and dont need to be so neurotic about things any more.
    Could call it the Starship Heavy booster, and sell it to DOD for that more Space Plane-Esque design they want.
    And if enough numbers crunching was done on the re-entry dynamics, maybe we could let go of the Shuttle style enough to actually break new ground design wise.. Get a more Wing-ed Thing-ed design...
    Might Take Elon mandating blood tests for engineering new-hires, seeking the higher Testosterone types, so as to avoid getting neutered Poodles like NASA.
    I suspect the eventual design might be somewhat like a high wing Manta shape, would have stability, glide ratio, plenty of belly surfing potential, and not feel like an Airstream Camper Trailer inside.
    Also more room for Troops and cargo Maybe a couple three cargo tracks instead of just one like current C-130's and C-17's etc.
    Then you could buttdump twice as many Grunts N Gear in one run... Have the engines outboard on the wing root areas each side aft.
    The Military is starting to think, and they always get money...
    And same design could be point to point cargo and passenger service craft.. Or for disaster relief missions etc.
    Would haul alot of passengers, maybe what? 4 decks with 6 aisles, between seat rows?
    That would lower per ticket prices to egalitarian levels.

      Want to mention again on the high wing manta shape hull, that the wing tips should turn down, and have some width out there, so it creates a box channel effect for low density air lift to high hull weights.
      I saw a few days ago a render of an experimental military unit that had the drop tips, though it was narrow winged and the drop tips narrow too...
      More of a high speed thin air bird, and not a heavy lifter re entry design.
      But that drop effect is known.
      I'm planning a writ soon on launch angle for InterContinentals,
      I've touched on it before, that if obital isnt your trajectory, could get better efficiency with less vertical launches.
      Also better for passengers.
