Friday June 22nd I was at F&T Landscaping picking up a load of River Rock for my Dry Creek Bed, and I am not sure the time of the day, but as I was loading, I looked to the West and saw a small plume of smoke up Ute Pass N. side. I remember thinking I hope they get on that fire before it gets out of control. Then I returned home to work on my dry creek bed not giving another thought about it believing someone would be looking into it. The next day is when I realized nothing had been done to extinguish it and it had already grown considerably thinking that obviously nothing effectively was done yesterday on Friday. Now looking back and hearing that actually a crew went in to find it but did not see "fire", but I bet there was smoke and at night they would not be able to see that. Well, the rest is history. I didn't realize there was so many fires that were being deliberately set either until this video, but I believe this fire started from a campfire that was not properly extinguished as I don't remember any recent thunderstorms with lightning that could have started it. So, a campfire would be difficult to locate as the starting point. Hindsight is always 20/20, but if several people called in reporting smoke, which there most definitely was, maybe "they" will take it more seriously because discounting this ended up being a huge tragedy.

My family lived just east of the mountain scar/quarry when this happened and my dad decided to evacuate only when he saw the fire running down Blodgett peak. I don't remember too much from then, but I was about 5. I do remember returning and driving north along Centennial rd. or around that area and seeing many houses burned down. Luckily the neighborhood I lived in survived unscathed.

I lived in Colorado Springs at the time and remembered the thousands of people who fled and going outside and seeing all the smoke and seeing the side of the mountain on fire and all the planes and helicopters flying around dumping water and all the fire trucks and firefighters...the whole city was covered in smoke too and looked like a war zone

Did they ever investigate any of the local teens of Manitou? I distinctly remember a Facebook post my classmate at MSHS made I think 1 year later, which said "do you guys remember when we set the Waldo Canyon Fire?" Or something like that.

I still can’t believe that a person started this horrible wildfire………..

Memories of evacuating from Manitou, and ash falling on me at a friend's house on the East Side, continue to haunt me.

If only the FBI worked as hard at this investigation as they do prosecuting trespassers!
