Almost 2 years ago I made a video covering 2 of the 3 lost levels, so cool to finally see it 🥲
Cool! How did you manage that? Can you share a link to the video?
How did you know there were lost levels?
@@robatron3 ua-cam.com/video/AQNn9itzO-s/v-deo.html
@@qwerttzizzi Neil had talked about it before, and I found some blockmesh versions of the levels in the game files.
They should have kept scenes with PTSD throughout the game, something that reminded her and at the end she would have that strong crisis on the farm
Right I feel like it would have also reminded us of what was going on inside her head
@@nellylindner2715 agree
I dunno, I feel saving the PTSD flashbacks until the farm was a stronger move. We're already on the same wavelength as Ellie throughout her three days in Seattle, and her general flashbacks of Joel keep us plenty reminded of the loss. I think what makes it work better at the farm however, is that we're lured into this false sense of security by seeing this new life she's attempting to live with Dina. But when that first flashback is triggered, it shows just how severe things have gotten for Ellie. Keeping in mind that the farm is about a year after the theater fight, we can understand how hard she's been trying to put on this act, not just for the player but for everyone else. I think saving that punch/revelation of the first PTSD flashback so late in game best highlights how she's drowning by that point in the story and desperately needs some way to "save" herself. It fills in the gap between the theater and the farm by saying her drive to kill Abby didn't end, it just festered and grew into something much worse.
Having to ptsd sections back to back would have severely lessened the impact of the barn scene. They made the right choice replacing the section with a journal entry
@@Renoistic I didn't want it to be the same way as the ending, I would find it interesting that at random moments she would hear a gunshot, blood stains or sound that reminded her of that event, but on the farm she would have this crisis because she was no longer dealing with violence, and that would give her another reason to go. behind Abby.

in chapter 3 until chapter 5 you see Arthur coughing randomly and you don't realize that something is wrong until he leaves Guarma and starts coughing up blood. and then he discovers that he has had TB since the beginning. It didn't affect these coughs at all because we didn't know the ending.
That Joel clicker moment was horrific
What time

Oh god the boar hunt is heartbreaking, the screams and cries blending in with Joel’s? That’s so smart!!! I wish they’d kept it in 😔
same. i cried.
They really should’ve kept it in the game
It would’ve been so much more impactful to witness this ptsd moment during gameplay
i think it’s implied to have happened in the journal you look through in the farm. she writes about cornering the boar in a gas station and hearing joel. they also kept in her washing her hands and bringing the rabbits in so in a way it was still kept in :P
@@missinkyy I know
But still - no everyone reads the journal, it’s very missable
Plus I personally hate when videogames tell me the story through “notes”
If I wanted to read - I’d turn to books
That Joel flashback in the sewers was amazing, cause it happens during gameplay, when players actually have control over the character
Overall I wish the story had at least some sort of impact on the gameplay - as Ellie goes further and further down this murderous spiral
Maybe let her hands shake a little when she aims after she does smth horrible (like blow up a fucking person) or her vision blur momentarily - idk, but at least smth
Cause what’s happening during cutscenes and gameplay feel very dissonant
I think the barn scene is much more impactful. You think everything is fine and then it hits you like a ton of bricks. The board scene would just have been more of what you have already been doing for 20+ hours.
This levels really deserved to be finished. This remaster was a great opportunity to bring it as a complete levels...
Imo, only the second level. The others seem to disrupt the game's pacing.
exactly reselling the same game with no new gameplay features or DLCs only unfinished levels is insane
@@octm1No new gameplay features other than the inclusion of a whole new rouge like mode with new playable characters, and perks. You’re a peanut.
@@Ace_Jermaine wow new players doesn’t take much to impress you..& what perks?
@@Ace_Jermaine “you’re a peanut” i hate that i laughed
I do understand why they cut The Boar. It's a really good sequence, but with other scenes in the game it could be redundant, and the transition from Abby/Ellie to Ellie holding Joel's watch at the farm hits much harder.
The sewers, though, I wish they'd kept. I always found that the very short sewer scene was missing something in its transition to the Seraphites, and the claustrophobia is something we don't see in the game often. All those dead-ends would've killed me (in a good way!). Plus, Joel as the clicker is just wild, and it reminds us that she's always thinking about Joel.
Ngl shi game
the boar hunt was great, hope it makes it into the show
Now this could actually work. I still prefer the barn scene but it could be one way of distinguishing the show.
The full Jackson party should be its own DLC!
This stuff is a treat to see as someone finishing their bachelor's in game design this year. What I find most interesting that with all these ideas, they never really just outright discarded an entire concept. Like how the clicker thing became the snowball fight, the lost boar level ending up in the diary, the sewer level kept the last segment and the first Wall-Stalker area.
They never take something this far and just cut it out entirely for unjustified reasons and while pacing plays a part in all of it, it's also that these scenes are often too much and that the game already communicates their concepts well enough, that feeds into the pacing, nothing is lost at a fundamental level by cutting them and yet they came a long way into production because they were unique, interesting ideas that would have been good enough for other games, just not for this one in particular. Left Behind for example has a long sequence similar to the Jackson party segment here, but it's a different game with a different purpose in mind. Spider-Man 2 had a Coney Island Carnival level that worked amazingly. I'm looking forward to the Commentary for the cutscenes and the full documentary they're releasing the same day.
Sorry for my english but i couldnt understand those lost level's purpose.Like why didnt they do these for the original game already? And also these level's compliting the rest of the game? I mean why did they do those parts? Pls help me to figure out!!!😅😅😅
@@wtfuhere. I'm afraid I don't understand your english. But game developers do not always plan their projects perfectly and sometimes will not realize that a segment won't work until it's quite far into production, until creative leads are able to think about it more when they have time to pay more attention to it.
As for why they weren't included in the original game, this is almost never done in games and they probably thought that these lost levels would be a neat bonus feature they could include in the new release of the game to make the remaster more appealing to buy.
@@The_Story_Of_Us so these levels's purpose could be for the part 3? Or it's just for the complete the whole story?
@@wtfuhere. no, the levels are basically just like deleted scenes in a movie, something they filmed and made without necessarily finishing it and they just decided they didn’t want them in the game after all. They aren’t for anything else.
@@The_Story_Of_Us oh i get it now thank you so much for your help!
The episode with learning to learn the hearing mode and throwing objects is cool, though the snowball game is still more fun.
The claustrophobic tunnel crawl is a powerful episode.
The hunting episode is emotionally heavy. Poor Ellie.
How do you get "poor Ellie" from the boar scene? She's committing a horrendous act on an innocent creature and not for food hunting purposes, or even at the very least, for the sport of doing it. She's choosing to brutally end the existence of a living being in the slowest, most painful possible way she can think of, because she refuses to accept Joel's death and try to move on and live a healthy life. She's rejecting true love, a cabin in the forest, and a family she always wanted and even said as much multiple times throughout both games. She turned entirely to the dark side, and all of her pain and anguish and suffering, and by extent, the suffering she's inflicted on everybody and everything around her is all completely her own fault for refusing many chances to to drop it and turn back multiple times even after letting her vendetta kill people she cared about the most. Her revenge meant more to her than the lives of the people who loved her. She doesn't deserve pity or sympathy, she's a villain at this point in the game, her and Abbie both are. But Abbie through Lev recognized what she was becoming and is now attempting to put it behind her and live a better life for the ones she cares about. Ellie is not. She's drowning in her own self pity, hate, and grief and perpetuating all of it plus inflicting it on everybody around her. She deserves the ending of the game. She deserves the loneliness she was so terrified of experiencing when she met Joel.

@@SUPERFunStick Okay. 🙄
The hunt scene was so fucking cool though wtf lol
I aren't a writer but to me hearing the merging of 2 different screams of pain followed by the change in facial language is already converying what it needs to, flashing joels face onscreen comes across as a heavy handed way of converying what was already started much more naturally
I didn't even notice at first lol
What if ur deaf though
I agree but you have to remember that some people aren't as observant and definitely would've missed it if it was just implied with expressions and audio, at least if we didn't get more scenes with Ellie's PTSD to hammer it home more.
The way they did it in the final game with Joel's beaten up face flashing on the screen when Ellie drops the shovel in the barn triggering a panic attack is definitely better than how it plays out here, though.
😢the hallucinations of joel during Ellies ptsd episodes hits hard i hope they put alot of her emotional break downs alot in this story, 💔🙏
I originally thought Joel would follow Ellie around as a ghost like Joker in Arkham Knight and that’s how they would be able to keep interacting but I like the way they went better
Think that's more realistic. I think if we had ghost Joel all the time, we wouldn't feel the loss as much. He's dead and he's gone and it's sad.
@@andrewli6606 I thought she would have her friends with her at first but then as she drove them away she would start talking to Joel. I thought the scene from the trailer was real but he was a ghost.
Same. After seeing the first trailer they released with Joel (as a spirit?), I would've loved something like that where Ellie hallucinates him and talks to him as if he was there.
Imo there should’ve been like a dream where it’s younger Ellie talking to Joel. Like in the walking dead season 4 with young Clem and Lee. It should’ve been at the end so the ending wasn’t so depressing
The Joel clicker moment was terrifying
After seeing these, I would have liked (but not liked at the same time) to have witnessed more of Eliie's PTSD throughout the main game early on, rather then towards the end with Ellie and JJ in the barn, like in the two lost levels here. But, I can also see why they chose not to do that to much, it would have been so jarring for players to witness so often, but, it also would have made it more realistic for Ellie's character and how much Joels death has affected her in obvious ways, based on her journal, we know how much its affecting her, but for me, reading about the bore scene in the main game vs playing through it with the lost level gives me a completely different and heartbreaking experience of the game overall if that makes sense.
It's all so heartbreaking and personally these lost levels just re-ignites my deep appreciation for The Last Of Us Part 2 (and Part 1) and the story they chose for Eliie. I am really intrigued to see what story they choose for Ellie in Part 3.
minus the joel-clicker hallucination, i think with some tweaking, all of these levels would have been amazing for the final game. especially the sewer levelz
I definitely felt like they should have left in more PTSD scenes related to Joel. I get they thought having it at the end was enough, but I think I along with a lot of other people thing it wasn't enough foreshadowing, because, y'know, it was literally right at the end.
To me This is the best channel covering tlou out of bounds .... keep up the good work ❤
Thank you!!
0:07 - Dear Lord, I think we all aged like 10 years during the pandemic.

I love the sewer level. As someone who is use go claustraphobia, the level really emphasis the feeling of being co fined really well
6:53 bro its like a screamer video lol
Playing through these got me nostalgic for discovering the Ratchet & Clank secret museums as a kid. Such a great glimpse at the game development process, and the compromises that need done regardless of how cool the ideas may be
Man...I told myself I wasn't going spoil anything and just wait to see stuff until I got the upgrade on the official release date. But your videos are always top tier and it's so hard not to immediately watch them 😫
Personally I just listen to Neil’s description and not watch the level/gameplay itself; I wanna play it for myself when I drops.
I'll be damned if there isn't a little Troy Baker in that boar screech
People keep forgetting that not so long ago you would pay to watch a movie in the cinema, then if you liked it you could buy the DVD/Bluerays with deleted scenes and commentary from the Director and the rest of the staff.
This is the same thing in another media.
Just let the people enjoy something.
I miss DVDs for this exact reason, and I wish streaming services would implement including deleted scenes and bloopers as a bonus episodes. It was always interesting to me to see the work that was invested behind the scenes to make the final product possible.
I‘m a little bit disappointed that we get only 3 short lost levels
I guess not everything is quite so playable and would need a lot more work.
“little bit disappointed” you should be enraged they resold the same game with 3 unfinished pre-alpha levels with included commentary for filler
@@octm1 Shhh, dont say it out loud, fanboys will defend this cash grab to death
@@haziqhashim2618 it already started was called a “hater” for doing so mind you naughty dog scrapped the multiplayer instead of including it with the rouge like mode and could have introduced new gameplay features/new enemies but instead we get 3 UNFINISHED levels and one new game mode with the same graphics…..
@@haziqhashim2618Its just 10 dollars to play as Joel a and you also getting new game mode, fair enough for me
The clicker in the sewer was jarring in a bad way. There's nothing leading into ellie having that emotional reaction. Glad that part wasn't in the final game, but the rest of the maneuvering in that level could have been fun
omid pfp , beautiful
I mean, I think it’s important to consider how that scene could have been iterated and refined to make that idea work. The scene doesn’t work as-is, but it’s also incomplete. How could they have changed or tweaked it to make it work? Most of the moments and ideas that work brilliantly in the final game probably were just as bad as that at one point.
I agree though, the appearance of Joel’s face was jarring in that iteration, and they said they faced some fundamental problems with the way that moment was structured. The fact that you have to continue moving after that moment makes it much less effective imo, but I found the idea of a moment like that happening in such a tight space very intriguing.
With better execution (lighting, animation, audio- the things that generally get polished) and context (the hard part- the place within the level, and the moments surrounding it) it could’ve worked extremely well, but I don’t think they could’ve saved it in that iteration.
@@purrspctivMost scenes work because they cut the stuff that didn't, like that silly clicker scene.
After seeing the first trailer they released with Joel (as a spirit?), I would've loved something like that where Ellie hallucinates him and talks to him as if he was there.
And i would add a short dialogue near the fireplace, where someone told a cool story about how they'd brought this sledgehammer thing in Jackson from some abandoned theme park crowded with clickers. Damn, i would even like much more to fucking play this level in some dlc.
I actually really like the extended Sewer part. Makes Ellie's desperation to find Nora all that more exciting. I wouldn't hate the extra 20 minutes or so of gameplay on a 20+ hour campaign...
6:35 I know it wasn't me who started hearing Ellie in that boars screams .. I know that had to be intentional because it is extremely subtle, it makes u think ur hearing it..
They should’ve kept that sewer and boar hunt level
14:40 wow that gave me a shiver.
15:43 WAIT is that also in the original game??? no way
I like them all, they all could have their place in the main game tbh. The jackson festival practically begs to be connected to that dance flashback in the game, the sewers is practically already halfway in the game already, and the boar hunt would help show that ellie post-theatre fight is still having a hard time letting go of her guilt for giving up on killing abby, as the one off of the whole gather the sheep thing didnt really feel like enough as it takes more than one episode of PTSD to motivate someone to leave their current lifestyle. But thats my opinion since these segments are short as heck anyways.
Bruh i swear this game tries to make me cry all over again
The “time crunch thing” is not a good enough excuse for the Sewer section they cut out especially when it looks so beautiful and dynamic
I really wish there was a mode to play the main game with these lost levels integrated into the rest of the game.
all should've been kept in the original game, it'd be really cool
Not a big deal, but a section close to the end of the video is missing audio for about 3 minutes. It's not the part that is the copyrighted song, or if it is it doesn't say so. Thanks for sharing!
That’s cool bro
The sewer section was so cool i wish it was in the final cut
Neil saying they cut the levels because it caused pacing issues.. yeah right as if the final game already didn‘t have them lmao
At least they cooked. If ur not satisfied go play Roblox or Minecraft
@@ImagoDei360 cornball
It didn’t? What do you mean?
It dosent Elies playthough is 11 hours and abbys playthough is also 11 hours
Good thing they removed these ones then.
In real life, inhaling and swallowing this dirty water in the sewers would make you so sick that you would probably die from it.
they totally should have kept the sewers in the final game
Were these put back in in the Remaster? Might make the remaster as a whole not a waste of money.
I like the sewer level.
It looks cool
8:26
There are milliseconds of gap, like when gluing together some clips for a video during post-processing work.
For the sewer section, does it remember your past play through and gives you your upgraded weapons and everything or does it just give you a default loadout?
default, you don't actually need to use any weapons
The ending of the boar hunt made me want to hug Ellie. It sucks she has to deal with PTSD of Joel dying...
Hope some of these make their way into the show! id actually scream in the best and worst ways possible
I really liked the clicker idea it es way too wholesome
Wish they could’ve released this levels
wow nice!
The boar encounter is detailed in-game by Ellie in her journal.
It's literally said in the video
@@lucask4377 Exactly. 🥱
I really wanted to see Boar Hunnt in the game. Because in the Part 1 we had to hunt when we take care of Joel's situation. We shot a rabbit first and saw a deer and started to hunt. And then another sequence start with David. It would be nice to see some hunting because we have in part 1 and not in 2. And the Jackson sequence. Seeing people around, talk and bust them(teenagers having fun in the hide:) shoot some balls to bottles, drink and then kissing with Dina and then Seth came. With influence of the drinks we are a bit rude. Otherwise, nice!
honestly, I'm very happy these didn't made it into the final product. while they were pretty fun to go through, some of the narrative beats in it being less nuance doesn't sit right with me but still really cool to see

So let me get this straight. They remastered the game but didn’t bother to finish the lost levels?
Best guess is they didn't think it was worth to complete such levels.
They tell you repeatedly their reasons for cutting them in the first place. Adding them would literally make the game worse. They're just neat extras showing how they iterated on the game. Perhaps watch the video before spouting nonsense.
Dude the Boar hunt should've been finished and that would've made me like the game a lot more seeing how the boar reminds ellie of Joel dieing thar would've been a good scene
is it going to be a dlc? oh a complete game?
i wish they kept these in tbh but not really the clicker game because idk it’s kinda weird to me

I'm a big fan of these games and loved part 2 besides the hate, i more loved the graphics and gameplay and world in part 2 more than anything, but with part 1 100% was all the above plus the story. I'm so mad atm that my ps5 suddenly has a fault where it can't read any discs because I was looking forward to this so much, now I'm going to have to watch this all on here instead since my ps5 won't be back with me in working order for probably a month ahhh lmao

I think the order of these would have been super annoying.
It should be Hunt -> The Farm -> Pre Dance Sequence and The Dance -> Then Ellie Dina Breakup.
It’s like the first Abby flashback - nobody is going to disconnect and enjoy a quiet moment with characters when those they care about lie in mortal peril. Would have been so stupid to expect you to do fun little mini games whilst we’re unsure if Dina and Tommy are dead…
Is it just me or is there no sound after 20 minutes of the video
There is most likely copyrighted music.

Naughty dog when asked why Ellie's character in the last of us was so brutally and shamefully assassinated:
"I felt like destroying something beautiful."
Over the past couple years, I've come to realize it's not really as deep as every UA-cam gaming theory channel would have you think. The last of us, in it's entirety, without a moment spent considering anything else, is a series wholly dedicated to destroying beauty. From the physical design of the world, it's dilapidated crumbling buildings, the rusted out frames of cars once left abandoned along half buried or broken chunks of crumbled asphalt that were once beautiful country roads, all the way down to each and every single main character's mental states and personalities. Everything in this franchise is just a bleak example of time and violence breeding absolute global destruction.
The boar scene shown here perfectly illustrates and almost certainly confirms my conclusion. Even after settling things with her nemesis, Ellie is still absolutely furious and in a perpetual state of brokenness to the point where she no longer even remotely resembles her self from part 1, or even herself from the beginning of part 2. Calling her a protagonist isn't possible anymore. She's not even an anti hero. She's a victim of absolute character annihilation far beyond redemption of any kind. It's that simple. Destruction of everything.
