The main reason I've never been big into Sabbath is because I'm not a metal fan. I like some songs, but they tend to be the melodic ones. This is a song of theirs I've never heard and was pleasantly surprised to hear that they had this in them. You don't always have to use every weapon in your arsenal to make your point. This particular song really hit home for me. My fiance passed in late July and I've been going through changes myself. Thanks for the reaction and for introducing me to the song.
Please check out Montrose ,this is where Sammy Hagar started .the whole album is a banger .I suggest start with Rock Candy then Rock the Nation then it’s a toss up between bad motorscooter or space station #5 Trust me it’s one of the best debut albums ever
Sammy should never have left that band. His best work, and best chemistry. Took Aerosmith until their third to break. Second Montrose album not as good, Sammy bailed. The third could have been the charm Agreed the first is bangers from start to finish.

This song is definitely a mood. If you're feeling down or have gone through some kind of loss, Changes can be a beautiful panacea. If you're in the mood for a good rock out, this isn't the tune. Great reaction as always!
Oh wow, I didn't know you listened to this song! It was my favorite in my angsty teens and is still up there. I've always loved their melodic pieces as well as the bangers. These last few years, so many friends and family have passed on, this song brings back memories...
I agree, it’s not my favorite Sabbath song and I LOVE Black Sabbath, but I appreciate that they tried to do something different from the heart. They are pioneers for a reason!

If you listen to this song within the context of the entire album it makes more sense. You have all the metal you want either side of it, and this is a beautiful interlude, then back to business.
The songs on good LP's were/are in a rhythmic order over the course of the LP. When you pick a single song to play it may sound odd when it stands by itself but will flow when listening to the whole LP. Peaks and valleys, the calm before the storm. This song is kinda like Lady Jane or Angie by the Rolling Stones - an unexpected piece by them.
Back around when I was 14 or so my best friend and I suckered his mom into taking us to see Black Sabbath by playing her their mellow songs like this one and telling her this was the band we wanted her to take us to see and that she would love them. She was not a fan after the show.
I’m too late on saying this but October should’ve been a full on metal month. Every October I try to listen to some of my favorite metal albums. It’s like listening to Christmas music in December, it just works.
You need to consider the context of the time they recorded it. What other groups were playing. It was their Fourth Album and doing something out of the norm was a happening thing.
I would not have chosen this song to open up with from this Album. The 1st Track "Wheels Of Confusion" Is Kool, & so is "Cornucopia" & "Supernaut".More Black Sabbath 4 U, From Masters Of Reality "Children Of The Grave".
Sweat Leaf is my very favorite Sabbath song. Andy did a solo reaction to Sweet Leaf quite a while back. Such a killer riff. And you can hear it’s influence in so many later songs.
I believe the version of this song ozzy's did with his daughter is the only time he ever had a song chart at number 1, I believe it charted number one in the UK
The best song on Vol. 4 by FAR is the underrated, nearly 8 minute long opener Wheels Of Confusion/The Straightener. Amazing riffs, great dynamics, killer Iommi solos wailing away during the climax!
My favorite song by Black Sabbath. Interesting they wanted to do a mellow song, since their reputation was based on Heavy Metal. It didn’t back fire, in fact it gained them some credibility for switching gears.
Ozzy Osbourne's Flying High Again, co-written by Randy Rhoades (oober talented lead guitar); Mr. Crowley or Crazy Train which is an appropriate song for our country's current atmosphere.
Yep. The Charles Bradley version is a gut punch. Superior to this version in every way. Nothing against this version, but Bradley feels these lyrics maybe more than the guy who penned them. Watch it - ua-cam.com/video/zfaOf70M4xs/v-deo.html

Hey Andy introduce your partner to a banger from Sabbath. I am afraid the next reaction will be to the song Beth from Kiss... ua-cam.com/video/Lo1TEq67qaM/v-deo.html
You have to judge it in its proper context. Back when people typically listened to an album all the way through in one go, this mellow song (along with the short instrumental following it) served as a nice chill-out break from the rest of the relentlessly pounding, grinding tracks on the album.
True. I don't think kids these days do much of this. They tend to cherry pick songs and look for synthetic music with auto tune. Patience is it's own reward sometimes instead of saying: "Give me everything, NOW!" Every time that these two begin to talk about production, or how they could do it better, I want to vomit. This will probably be the last time that I sit through one of their reviews. They aren't as bad as the writers from Rolling Stone, but that condescending outlook just seems so plastic and wannabe hipster to me. Maybe if they'd put some real whiskey, instead of iced tea in those glasses, they might be able to just go with the songs for what they are...
@@obbor4 Nah, they are alright. They listen to the music from a 21st century perspective and simply don't quite understand its context, or perhaps don't realize that there is a context. But all this can be learned. What they definitely could use is a knowledgeable mentor who has lived in that era and can explain to them what they are listening to, its historical meaning and why it sounds the way it sounds.
@@rookmaster7502 Yeah, I tried to allow for that, and you're right, it can be learned. I just thought that these guys were musicians/rockers to begin with. A lot of it is me. I basically think that over production, or always relying on someone's formula the create the latest hit record has fallen flat more times than not. The groups that we're getting here from the "Classic Rock" era are far more unique less cluttered by studio excess, and completely geared to producing albums, and not just songs (the best of them, anyway.) That, as you stated before, may be the difference. Album listening require much more of commitment by the listener and many more nickels from record buyer to purchase the entire thing.
@@jeffbaker2979 Yeah good point, but I think it depends on the band and the album. Some albums don't play that well as an album. But also I think those of us who grew up listening to Side 1 or Side 2 of nearly everything now listen to music differently too. I love streaming and creating my own playlists, though I'm sure many -- older and younger -- do not. Also, I have never listened to Sabbath No 4 -- or either side of it -- in one sitting. But I have heard this song on classic rock radio stations occasionally back in the 80s (though definitely not much).
I love when albums do this. fans often complain but I love intermission type soft pace songs to break an album in two. for instance, teenager on deftones white pony album
I’m with you guys. I have to admit that when it came out, I enjoyed it more then than I do now. In it’s position on the album it’s kind of a welcome change after a few heavy bangers. This is not a typical Black Sabbath song...it was written in '72 by Geezer Butler for band mate Bill Ward about his breakup from his 1st wife. It's a sad tune, and your reaction was right on. I rather hear Sabbaths usual mode. Ozzy is such a great vocalist! Cheers.😎🔥

@@allisonreed7682 Didn't remember that track at all. I'm not much of a fan of 80s Yes even though I saw them on that tour! 😊 But I'll have to check out that song again
Ozzy does show his versatility here but your assessment is spot on. You know what’s not boring? Randy Rhoads-era Ozzy! Ozzy only made two albums with RR before Randy’s untimely death in a freak accident. But both albums are INCREDIBLE, and their appearance on your channel is overdue. 😊 Check out: Over the Mountain / Crazy Train / Flying High Again / I Don’t Know / You Can’t Kill Rock and Roll
"Ordinary Man" made me cry.😭💯 All 20 times I listened to it.🤫After his recent health scare I felt like Ozzy was saying goodbye.💔 We've lost so many legends already this year.😔 F+#k 2020!😤 Worst year ever!😩 I'm 68 years old and so many of the guys I've listened to for 40 or 50 years and saw back in the '70s are gone now.😣 That's the sad side of living a long life, friends, family, and your idols leave this world before you.😪 Thanks to modern technology their music will live on in our ears and hearts forever.🤗✌️❤️
But it is great! Just because it's not the usual style doesn't mean it's bad. Let me know if I'm misreading your comment, though. I have difficulty telling sarcasm from texts.
Cannot find a place for recommending a song for review and reaction... how about Procol Harum, Whiter Shade of Pale, original studio cut- then a contrasting view of Procol Harum in Denmark, live, same song with the National Orchestra, 2006...
One of the things you might have missed with this song is how well it fits into the album as a whole. You come off a couple of hard songs, into "Changes," which then leads into "FX" and "Supernaut." It's a really coherent ride that all kind of works together. Standing alone, it's not as good.
Been a while since we hit Sabbath, and this had a completely different vibe than what we expected! What are your guys’ thoughts on the song?! 🙌🏻🔥
Always love Sabbath..... Keep up the quality in-depth entertainment👍👍✌✌🔥🔥
They have two other really nice slow ballads, Planet Caravan and Solitude. The one Bill Ward sings in Technical Ecstasy is a bad joke.
"Let's hear some rock n roll!" LOL. "Killing Yourself To Live" has to be next!
I remember first hearing this and just waiting in wonder for the heaviness to drop in, which never came. I immediately played it again.

@@paytonfreer8945 am I about to get whooshed? Is this about to be a double whoosh? It’s so hard to tell these days
@@paulshaum3421 I am so sorry
@@paulshaum3421 I originally thought it was David Bowie but that was a song released one year earlier and sounds nothing like this song
@@paulshaum3421 it makes me so happy that Black Sabbath were the ones who originally wrote this song. Makes me love sabbath more than I already did
David Bowie’s “Changes” is the one you want
When I first saw the title “Changes,” I thought it was going to be the song by Yes! 😆 But “Changes” by Bowie would be a proper choice!
Totally agree
@@allisonreed7682 I thought "Yes" as well. It's my fav track from 90125.
@@allisonreed7682 Didn't remember that track at all. I'm not much of a fan of 80s Yes even though I saw them on that tour! 😊 But I'll have to check out that song again
@@MrAitraining I hope they get around to more Yes. 90125 is such an epic album. “Changes” is great but so are “Leave It” and “It Can Happen.”
If you watch Big Mouth, you've heard Charles Bradley's cover of this song.
The first time I heard black sabbath’s version I hit an epiphany when It got to the chorus
Is there anything that awful show won't ruin?
@@OrgaNik_Music , Charles Bradley nailed it. It's a top notch cover.
Yes, The Charles Bradley version is so soulful. You guys gotta do a reaction to it.
You should give "Ordinary Man - Ozzy Osbourne ft. Elton John" a try. Didn't imagine their Styles would go well, but boy I was wrong.
Of ALL the great Sabbath songs to reccomend listening to someone suggested this??? Good gawd! Maybe follow up with some crankin' Air Supply!!! 🤟😂🤣
@Victhedude...Lol.Or maybe Christopher Cross?🤔
But it is great! Just because it's not the usual style doesn't mean it's bad. Let me know if I'm misreading your comment, though. I have difficulty telling sarcasm from texts.
Bedtime Sabbath
Cannot find a place for recommending a song for review and reaction... how about Procol Harum, Whiter Shade of Pale, original studio cut- then a contrasting view of Procol Harum in Denmark, live, same song with the National Orchestra, 2006...
off the same Vol.4 album you guys should do
Wheels of Confusion.
epic epic banger
Check out the Sabatoge album. Probably their best IMO. Symptom of the Universe is a banger.
One of the things you might have missed with this song is how well it fits into the album as a whole. You come off a couple of hard songs, into "Changes," which then leads into "FX" and "Supernaut." It's a really coherent ride that all kind of works together. Standing alone, it's not as good.
