At first I saw the drawing and knew something was off but it was only when you started to explain I could not only understand but also realize ahead of time what needed to be changed, thank you this was very useful to me :)

the first drawing is so cool, the likeness is there but lack in value, proportions , edge design and overall shape design. Really cool drawing.

When it comes to free, you have to be creative. Free for me would be a google search. Free means taking the time to research for the best image possible.

Get pintarest. Big database of pictures. You can save them and group them. The app starts recommending similar pictures (light/ pose etc) and it lets you search for parts of a picture. You zoom in on a face, and zoom to the closed eye, you get a bunch of closed eye pictures. Works for me, at least but I'm always looking for (female) faces with a certain light I find interesting.

I use Pinterest - I made a board that I ensure has lots of expressions and emotions in (most of the time you will see your generic model portraits and they're very samey, I don't like using them as they are basically just repeats.), you can also watch movies and pause at a random point and draw the person on screen - those will also provide you with emotive portraits ^_^

The eyes and nose were off a bit but it’s a great drawing
