Great story about going cross country to PEI. My friends and I were bored one night and realized we’d never been to Canada. We hopped in my dad’s 1973 Caprice, drove up I-91 to I-93 then crossed the border. Three of the guys said “ok, we made it, let’s go home” ugh! 43 years later and they still haven’t paid me for gas! Road trips are some of my fondest memories too. One of my grandmothers left PEI and moved to Maine at 16. 85 years later my father and I drove there to see where she'd come from. That road trip was a birthday gift to my 80 year old Dad.
Love me some memories of my grandfather bringing home a 61 Belvedere and my grandmother saying "Bill that thing is ugly...you take it back to the dealer!!" I was with my grandpa on this one...I loved it 😎👍
I think you would be pleasantly surprised at the value of one of those now. There's a young fella in N. Carolina Who bought a 1962 Plymouth and drove it from Washington State Home....via California... In January....That's a six thousand dollar car any day.....Cheers Scott....
You could bring out that Beautiful Blue Belvedere at each show and I would be delighted to ogle that gal and never grow tired. That you for having had to show her some light of day. I feel she deserves it. Cheers mates!
Hey Scott. Another great episode - thanks so much. Your musings are always a great pleasure to listen to. Altho very sad to see that faithful Plymouth ignominiously put out of its well deserved home and into the elements for a renault. That ain't right - but it's your stuff ..... 😞
Hi Frank! Well, I didn't mention that the whole time I drove the car daily, from 1991 until I moved to this acreage, it sat outside every day, because I didn't have a garage... It doesn't leak, and the interior is nothing special, unlike the Renault, which is mint inside and out, and was always garaged from new by the original owner... Hope this makes sense... Cheers!
I traded a pioneer car stereo for my 62 back in 1975 or so and drove it for a long time until it was sideswiped and just tore it up past fixing. It was a push button auto and a 225 slant and a very good car.
Can't wait for that Mopar Wagon in the background to get restored! Never seen one or even heard about one of those, but it's so cool! Looks like a muscle car wagon!
Seeing the jerry can hard up against the carburettor for a minute made me realize that in all the years I've enjoyed watching CWM, I have NEVER seen a fire extinguisher. Admittedly, I haven't been looking for one. Hope they're readily available throughout Scott's domain.
@@coldwarmotors And that's exactly how you never need one, luck seems to hang out with the "over prepared". Keep a few Band Aids in your wallet, nicks and pokes disappear.
If I was a smart man, I would sell off at least a dozen of mine, but I've never been accused of being smart, or rational. I just can't bring myself to let my old trusty friends go away. Like you said, many don't have any real value to anyone other than me, so here they stay.
When I was a teenager the man next door had a '59 Plymouth Savoy. Light turquoise 4 door, 3 on the tree. He used it as his go to work car. To this day that is still one of my favorite cars.🎉
Nice ride. I had once a similar Plymouth 4 door, it was an ex-police patrol car. In Finland it was/is very rare to have US made police cars. Car is now under restoration somewhere here in Finland.
Looks like you have to th😅n the ranks as you are running out of covered storage space for your nice cars. Deans needs to do one of his cleanings on the 61 Plymouth. Looking forward to Saturday.
Your Belvedere brings back memories of my dad's. Four door Slant Six like yours, but his had three on the tree. Unstoppable in the snow. I particularly remember a trip we did from Covington, KY (across the river from Cincinnati, OH) to near Irvine, KY which is about 90 miles to visit grandparents and had to go back in a really bad snowstorm during the winter of 1967. I-75 was practically brand new at the time and it was filled with cars that were not faring well. I don't remember if he had chains on the car, but I do remember it having studded snow tires. As we were in the final stretch for home, the Slant Six started running rough but we made it. My dad popped the hood and found the engine compartment packed with snow. Later in the spring, it got rear ended while parked on the street. My dad was doing a tune up on it and was sitting on the passenger side looking through his "Fix Your Plymouth" manual, and just stuck his foot back inside the car about a minute before someone plowed into the car mangling the left rear quarter panel. The impact pushed his Belvedere into the back of a same year Falcon sedan and damaged the front. My dad replaced the '61 with a '63 Belvedere with a 318 poly. The '63 was pretty much the perfect car. Wish I had it now.
I recall not buying a '61 ragtop with original cross ram twin 4 barrels. Cheap. They were absolutely not in demand even as late as 20 years ago. It was on the road, all original for about $2,000. But no - I decided I wanted a 1960, I didn't like the no-fin 1960 with funny grille. I'm sorry now. I still like the '60 better, but what a rare find I let slip by 20 years ago.
have to admit i didn't much care for those plymouths when they came out, and, yes, i remember when they came out in '61. but they look kinda cool now. why not take it to the grocery store instead of one of your other ones, every once in a while. better yet, why not rotate your "daily" drivers? use three or four.
