Adjusting Gibs and Squaring Backgauge on Challenge Champion 305 Paper Cutter

  • Just some light maintenance on my guillotine paper cutter. First is to tighten and grease the backgauge gibs. Then oil and grease everything. Check hydraulic fluid and filter. Last of all square the backgauge so that paper is perfectly square when cut. Feels good when equipment is taken care of and ready to work perfectly.

      There are some really great light greases out there. I use a light silicone grease for almost everything mechanical in my Printers. My cutter is much smaller tho.

    I have a different model cutter (EBA) and it makes a horrendous noise when moving the back gauge backwards. It’s as smooth as butter moving forwards though. Have only started to look at fixing it this week so your video has come at a great time. Maybe I need to loosen it slightly.

    The konica 1200 is now obsolete. The toner is manufactured in Japan in bulk and packaged into bottles in the USA. Precision Roller out of Phoenix is a pretty good source for toner.

    Well for the fan you could add a thermostat or... replace the fan with one or multiple noctua fans in parallel if the voltage is bigger than 12v (eg. 2 x 12v fans in parallel if the original was 24), check the amount of cfm the original one was, they are silent and works rock solid.

    Please tell where you found the deal on the toners??? I need to order some for my 1051. Really envious of your new cutter but if you check out some of the videos of the 3070 upgrade (4080/4070) with the TU-510 trimmer unit, you may not need it so much.

    • @justaprinter
      @justaprinter  3 роки тому +1

      Yes, that trimmer unit is sweet and would be great to have. I bought toner from GMS Supplies. However after I bought 8 toners for $60 each, they raised their price to $83. Should have bought more. :)

    You many want to experiment a little....I found that 1050 toner (TN010) is the same as my 951 toner (TN015) but is half the price. Been using it for about 5 years now. I do have to exchange the plastic ring on top, but that's it.

  • @rastomeb
    @rastomeb 3 роки тому

    Great content as always.
    I assume your toner price has gone up because of the freight costs increase.
    Smaller suppliers may have not amended their prices yet, so it’s wise to clear the stock right now.
    At the moment there is a big imbalance in containers in China vs rest of the world.
    Container shipping cost to UK has increased tenfold as an example.
    This will impact raw materials as well as finished goods, anything that is coming from China.
    Also Chinese New Year right now does not help either and raw material shortages across the world.

    • @justaprinter
      @justaprinter  3 роки тому

      Another viewer also mentioned that a container ship lost 1,900 containers at sea and some of them were Konica containers. Thats a big oops.

    We have an issue with our paper cutter not cutting through the product square. Top 500 or so sheets are fine, but the bottom 100 end up an 1/8" off. Any clue on how to fix that? DM if you have ideas but need more clarity, kinda a tough one to explain. Brand new cutter

    • @justaprinter
      @justaprinter  8 місяців тому

      Hmm, can you increase the clamp pressure? Or test that the clamp is coming down with the same pressure on the right and left side? Also, make sure your paper is stacked tight against the left or right side where the knife would be pushing the stack into the side guide.

  • @daleatkinson3453

    Just curious why the fan on the tank? does it have fins through the tank to cool? Ours is a lot bigger cutter but it doesn't have anything cooling the fluid but of course our tank is 25 L x 30 W x 12 H so its got more area to cool it. I just wonder if you even need it. Unless your using the cutter hours on end with out a break. Does it get that hot. Just curious.

    • @justaprinter
      @justaprinter  3 роки тому

      You are probably right. my previous cutter didn't have a fan. There are no fins, just a fan blowing on the side of the tank. Can't imagine it does a whole lot. I might just unplug it.

      Sounds like your knife could be sharpened too. Download the user manual from challenge for your specific cutter model. There should be a knob to adjust pressure.

    I have question not sure if you can answer. I have a challenge 305 as well. I’m a small shop too. Recently I had an electrician come out and update our outlets which disconnected the power to the cutter. Once powered back up I was able to reset the computer for everything to work as far as backguages and everything like normal. When I press the buttons to cut the motor turns on normally when I press again it cuts but now the motor turns off and the blade never comes down. When I first purchsed it I had a tech come out and set it which I know it’s not broken but something that has to be reset when the power is disconnected but my tech is no longer in business. Do you know what it is?
