I've been a painter for 40 years and started making large abstract expressionist paintings about ten years ago. I've been working on more brush control in the last few years and, very recently, "NARRATIVE." This search lead me to some history from art school - Ukiyo. This painting @ 1:20 is a perfect example. It's completely flat yet it has perspective. The following clips are what I and abstract expressionist call a 'static - all over' aesthetic where the eye tries to focus on a an important and just surrender to the painting as one thing. Incredible video subbed!
I'm in awe of this great art. 1:20 was a print made by Ando Hiroshige, great landscape artistry. I've been researching his life and art. 5:10 was his memorial print.
I agree, that is a beautiful one, I also love his work. Do you know about purchasing woodblock prints? Trying to get one for a friend and don't know the first thing.

Could someone please tell me what is the name of the first picture in 0:00 min. This picture evoked so many feelings that I can not get enough of it, I need this in big.
The title is “Sunrise at Shinagawa” in “The Fifty-Three Stations of the Tōkaidō” by Utagawa Hiroshige Actually I’m writing this comment at a café near Shinagawa station, Tokyo (at 8:30 in the morning).😊
2:33 - Who created this lovely print? So luminous. I love these old Japanese woodcut prints. If you visit the Kyoto Handicraft Center in Kyoto, Japan, they make real prints in front of you. Lots for sale, cheap. Please do not add music to any videos. Drowning out the human voice and a source of irritation, not peace.
Japans more than just manga, manga is just one form of Japanese art, it's why Japanese people dislike anime fans from other countries you think the whole country is either anime or manga get a grip
@Snow Forest when did I ever say manga was the only form of Japanese art? If you took the time to google it instead of immediately assuming that I'm being disrespectful or ignorant, you'd find that "inexpensive ukiyo-e printed books laid the groundwork for the manga industry in Japan". So why don't You get a grip and educate yourself.

Oh dang... I am so naive! I never knew these were block prints! My mind just got blown out today. A great video production ❤
As a long-time fan of Ukiyo-e, I really enjoyed this in-depth explanation. Your choice of images and storytelling is excellent!
What a fascinating and educational piece. Thank you 🙏

Great video and fascinating topic
Amazing video, keep up with the good content. Greetings from Brazil
This is gorgeous. ❤️
I concur!
Exactly what I was looking for. I like Japanese wood block printing, and certain European artists I think might complement it.
Really awesome, how do you look up a print?
Beautful indeed thanks
Thanks for this
I highly apreciate ❤❤❤
What is written in the background-colored (blue, gray, red, brown etc) rectangular box(es) at the top right of many prints ?
Probably the designer, the carver, and the printer :--)

What is the name of the music playing throughout the video
Is it a single tune or melody

Our museum is focusing on the Kamigata Ukiyoe. Hope it’ll be your interest!
Hey!!! Someone knows the name of the background song??? I am getting anxious only trying to search for it!

Its my pet theory Shinji Ito would be a further subset had manga been around in the era of Ukiyo-e.
I looked at your site; are you reopening? Your site says August 2021 but it's almost September 2024 D:
I feel like this is the origin of manga
Without doubt!
I believe you’re right.

shut up cringe ass
They did not need 20 blocks for 20 colours - any colours that were separated on the print could be printed at the same time on one block
I think it might have caused some problems about layering orders and printing efficiencies of mass production.

Get rid of the music. It's distracting and makes it quite hard at times to hear what you're saying.

Thank you😊
