I was surprised y how quickly you completely that service call! I’m retired now but replacing thermocouples on furnaces and boilers was the primary repair we did back in the 80’s. Oh and replacing filters and fan belts on gas’s furnaces.
Excellent explanation Master Doctor Mike . I have the same equipment same year same issue. I'll try your advice and let you know about the results. Thank you very much Doc.
Another Great Video, Mike. There was a lot of work done during that call. Most companies charge extra for a Combustion Test. The customer seemed pleased. I have never used WD40 on burner tubes, learn something new every day. Be safe out there Mike.
Those clips are shipping retention clips they are not needed for normal operation. Oh, I guess what you can’t ask the manufacture to confirm that because they bankrupt.
Excellent job Mikey. Your fee is very fair and justified. I had one question does the flame need to be adjusted when replacing burner tubes? I was thinking once you replace a burner tube or clean it will the flame be too high causing the rollout switch to trip?. Great video.
Thanks for all the useful and entertaining conent you put out, you have helped me in my DIY adventures many times. I have what appears to be the same or very similar boiler as this one (Slant Fin S-90 DP) in my home and recently had our fall service completed. During his inspection he found that the collector gasket at the top, above the heat exchanger (pardon if my terminology is wrong) was shot.. he quoted me $1000 to replace that gasket. The unit is burning clean and operating as it should be. I feel that replacing this gasket would be something I could handle myself. Do you have any opinions on this, tips, gasket material preference etc that you could share?
Your pricing is consistent with the Boston area, except you do a bit more like flue gas analysis and bring your experience to the table. I was wondering why you didn't try to sell a service contract.
Another great video! What is the idea behind spraying the burners with WD40? Won't that just immediately burn off? Thanks for sharing your experience with all of us.
Replacing the Thermocouple on my furnace today. Also going to take the pilot line off of the valve and blow a little air through it because the flame seems a little lazy. Never did it before so I appreciate your video, it’ll help me a lot. Would you suggest also using WD-40 on the burners to clean them up a bit? The furnace hasn’t been touched for 10+ years!
Yeah Mike another viewer advised me of that thanks. I forget you got over 155 k Subs from many locations so I can see the concern. But I'm in Queens NY not far from you so it's really relevant for me. Keep up the great Vids.
i just replaced my thermocouple and the pilot light still wont stay on while hitting the rod after letting go of the red button. could the issue be with the gas valve ?
I'm looking for Mikey Pipes video showing him using his tester to test 24 volts transformer..testing the pressure trol..the rollout switch and the spill switch..pls help me find that video
my slantfin V90 is on its last leg...maybe one more winter. what boiler model number would be a direct replacement? mine has a 3 inch vent to side of house..
Never use WD 40 to clean the burners it contains kerosene and water . I take it to the sink and wash it with hot water thoroughly . Even the l pilot burner . Combustion test should be in the draft hood above 12 " from the heat exchanger . Putting the probe in the flue diverter can cause ambient air to sense that can lead to incorrect reading in the efficiency test . And over all great job .
The way I look at it is he paid for your expertise to get ot working again it's worth it for having heat for his family ...maybe he should get the other guy and probably have to get a new boiler !!!!
Mike has mentioned many times he has a Company Policy NOT to Discuss Pricing since Every State across each Region of the U.S. is going to be Different. 👍
You recently fired an employee for trying to light a pilot on a boiler with the burners on the floor in front of the boiler. Upon seeing you doing the same thing there was a lot of anxiety on my part knowing how dangerous that is but you knew what you were doing. I think you should not show these things on your videos because There are alot of beginners out there seeing that done by you but do not know how dangerous it is. Please advise
How much did you charge for that 24 volt thermocouple? I guess that it's true about that cliche, If your not using Mikey Pipes your getting screwed, but if you're using Mikey pipes you're getting fucked.
You charge what the Market will Bear. If you don't make money- you die. Service-Service-Service. And only install parts that YOU SOURCE, not the customer. Did you trade for that sweet Red GT 40 yet? Just needed a little tuneup. I'd like to put that on a pole 50' up in the front of the shop.
Amazes me the Priority of something as Important as Heat for Survival in Extreme Temps taken for Granted. Malfunctioning Furnaces Kill people across U.S. 🤔🤪👎
Basically, you replaced a $10 thermocouple for $487.00. Looking at all the boilers he has there- he better watch the video and learn to do it himself before he goes broke!
The price is whatever a customer agrees to pay. I know plenty of HVAC guys and they all buy houses, do flips, and buy investment properties from me. They have tons of money. The point is if the guy has 10 boilers he should learn how to replace a thermocouple because it's the most common thing to go wrong. @@mitchdenner9743
The price is whatever someone agrees to pay. I know many HVAC guys and they do quite well. They buy tons of properties from me for flips and investment. My point is the guy should know how to replace a thermocouple if he has 10 boilers. I teach my maintenance guys how to do it (if they don't already know) so I don't have to pay $487.00. That's what maintenance is paid to do in an apartment complex.@@mitchdenner9743

Not generally we use a combustion analyzer and we use a digital monometer checking our pressures and checking our exhaust gases

@@PipeDoctor not having any luck finding a gasket for this, is it ok to use high temp silicone?
Where are those wires u disconnect ed from gas valve go to?

You know what that’s a great question I just didn’t think about offering a maintenance plan to this homeowner
Thanks Mike good video
Glad you enjoyed it
Another great video! What is the idea behind spraying the burners with WD40? Won't that just immediately burn off? Thanks for sharing your experience with all of us.
Just something to knock the dust off without hurting the tubes, and like you said, it just burns off.
See below
Also works good with a scotch bright pad or scratchy paper for shining up your copper

what'd you do with the little clips you removed?
Replaced them back on
@@PipeDoctorwhat are they for?
Thanks, must have missed that part and was wondering if they were for when the boiler is new and being transported so the tubes wouldn't fly around

You bet
Why do you put wd40 on the burners great video hop its not a stupid q
When I service my steam boiler, I now clean and brush the tubes and wipe them down with WD40. If Mikey does it, I do it. Thanks Mike.
WD-40 is a protectant and lubricant it doesn’t hurt and also gives it a nice clean shine
i just replaced my thermocouple and the pilot light still wont stay on while hitting the rod after letting go of the red button. could the issue be with the gas valve ?
if the pilot flame is good, then yes, you'd be needing a new gas valve
What made the flame less yellow if you didnt change the ignition assembly?
Cleaning and moving it around likely stirred debris loose
Are you still offering consultations?

Im subscribed to you channel, but this is the first time being stumped: WD40 on the burners. Why?
It’s a lubricant and protectant

So whats the benefit of spraying WD-40 on the burners?
Lubricates and protects.
