Lorcan Ward I'd honestly say that his Hypemachine is poking fun more at the clones of BMs, like earlier Skervesen and Siggery (especially since all HMs are fanned). I'd say it's more of a clone of a clone in essence
Don't think that would help much, as the problem was that he sweats a lot. You don't want all that moisture (mixed with body salts) dripping into the open pickup cavity. You could end up with corrosion in the wires if it drips down far enough, not to mention just damaging the wood in general. Plus I'm not sure a gaping hole in a guitar is much better than a piece of tape.
sounds like he didn't want to remove the pickup; just wanted to keep the screws from corroding & coming out. stainless steel screws & a little loctite would cure that...especially because he wouldn't need to adjust the neck pickup.

You can paint and seal that off. That is not a problem.
I'd remove it because the tape looks fugly.
