    Thru the sixties our family drove from Cronulla to surfers , i remember it well with some old photos !! From 81 it's building development hasn't stopped

    These days are long gone unfortunately. My dad used to tell me about the carefree Gold Coast in the 50s. I was lucky enough to grow up in the 70s and 80s when the Gold Coast was still reasonably unspoilt. Now it’s way too over developed. They’ve ruined it.

      Hey rohana9035, the people living there in the 1940's said it was spoiled already. The geriatrics in 1969 said it was spoiled and no good.
      It's just a generation thing. Today's Gold Coast children in 2042 will bitch about how good it used to be .

      ​@@patappleton6285Nope! Something irrevocably changed, ince certain elements were allowed to hold sway. It's obviously also question of scale: As a costal settlement is is entirely overwhelmed. You'd have to be insensible to not be able to tell the difference.

    Not a high-rise to be seen ..now the coast is one continuous line of fairly awful looking skyscrapers ..sad.

    They were the days, I remember them well. It is interesting viewing these movies and photos of the 50's and 60's, how fit and trim we all were then. Watch and play find the over weight people. There's not many.

    Dont luve in queensland except for briefly in 1976 but in sydney in the sixties i went to every beach in sydney they were beautiful beaches and beautuful times sadly long gone especially now in such restrictive times

    I just recently left the GC. Far too expensive to rent and far far too expensive to buy.
    I ended up in a small town in Central Queensland where at least you can buy a house at a reasonable cost.

      The one at Cottontree (Maroochydore) is still there. And so is the one at Coolum. Sadly, many have been turned into hotels and subdivisions.

      Seen a few pissed developers spill their guts in my time. Grotesque greed weakness of character disguised in opulence and big noting

    A good one to watch is history city of Elizabeth South Australia from nothing in 1955 till now.it was an experimental city in the commonwealth and shows classic footage of its birth including housing,lifestyles,work life,etc shows birth of now old Holden's factory and industries involvement,10 pound pome process from hostile to house to work etc it was part of the experiment purpose that was successful at start, to a bad reputation city in Adelaide and how now it's pulling itself out shows classic story of British immigration thought you might like to see and learn god bless.
